I just started up on staring Tempted Data, because I want a useful 5/5 Data on my crew, but maybe I'll work on Data V instead? He has a nice combo of ENG and SCI.
Data V has a bit better ENG base, a better voyage score and IMO a nicer skill combo, but it's not like Tempted is bad or anything.
I did one pull of the event pack, got Data V (I was hoping for Quark, but I'll take Data).

Nice pull! And I would strongly recommend switching to Data V - if only because he'll help you out way more in the event this week.
Humans dressed up and in the holodeck make sense for the human trait but not hologram. Holograms (EMH or otherwise) are not human, so not having the human trait makes sense. Holograms of humans are not actually the crew, so why would they have the human trait?
I must say, this mega is so DIP and CMD heavy, especially DIP, like let's ease in a little more of the other skills if possible. So far out of the 10 event crew (mega legendary included) there have been 6 with DIP as their main skill, 1 with DIP as secondary, and 2 with DIP with it as tertiary. So 9/10 of the mega event crew have DIP, that's a bit overdoing it.
It's one of the lousiest "events" i've seen in a game in a while, loading us up exclusively with crap we don't need lol, even for a mobile game where the standards are much lower. If any of the characters were any good at cmd and dip, but no, the stats have been abysmal since the beginning.

That seems like a logical division to me, but one that the game does not apply consistently. In fact, in most cases it does include the species the hologram is representing (which applies also to cards like Crell Moset, a hologram of a Cardassian, with the Cardassian trait, and Honey Bare Jadzia, a hologram of a Trill with the Trill trait). In my opinion, since the majority of the cards include the species trait, they all should.
Not a whole lot of AND shuttles. Think only the 5 seater of all the federation ones is it for the ones I am doing.
I noticed this too. Not sure about the 5 slot missions as I basically ignore them but there are 2 AND shuttles in the Dominion faction that are 3 slot. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the new face of faction events as it would eliminate all of the uproar over the "AND shuttle bug"...most likely won't be but I could see it happening.

But this makes shuttles significantly more difficult without "and" missions.

My view is that if the hologram presents as a specific species, that species trait should be listed. This is controversial, though, as it would make all versions of the EMH human.

I figured they were making the shuttles tougher due to the huge numbers of event crew.

I suspect it's a way to test if mission design influences what faction is chosen. Dominion had more AND slots and more 3 slot shuttles. Personally I chose Dominion just because of that. I bet they're testing how many people will make a similar decision.
Also, remember when people used to complain about AND slots? Now we're complaining about not having them.

Only because it leads to twice harder shuttle missions, not because 'and' is a preferred scenario.
To anyone who has finished Quark: how many specialty items and expensive items, and faction-only items does he require?
He requires some 2* bloodwine. Also 0* Rules of Acquisition and 0* Gagh. It wasn’t too bad. I have equipped everything but the 5* outfit. I am waiting to get that in threshold rewards.
I did one pull of the event pack, got Data V (I was hoping for Quark, but I'll take Data).

Well, I'm leveling him... I don't think I'm going to get enough honor to put any citations on him before the event ends, though.

Yeah, he was kind of a pain, with both Ferengi and Klingon stuff. But I managed to FE him without burning through all of my replicator uses for the day (most, but not all ).
Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing. ~ Data, ST:TNG "Haven"
Thank you. I brought him to level 80 in no time. You're right. I'm holding back until I earn the purple items in this item set. He has a few tough spots, but so far he is far easier than Klingon Quark. Klingon Quark is obnoxious... possibly worse than Cyrus Redblock. And he hasn't really been useful to me this event. He'll be headed back to the deep freeze after this weekend.

Just FE my Data V. I've had a harder time leveling 3*s before. Also, he has higher base ENG at 1/5* than Tempted Data at 2/5*, so I think Data V is getting citation priority from now on.
Anyone else finding this event more competitive? Probably the new rewards structure, but with putting in roughly the same amount of effort as I do when targeting a top 1k finish, I'm way off the mark, even though my crew are all bonus.

Good luck to everyone!
So there are three things I think are happening
1. Everyone has a ton of bonus crew so no reason not to time boost missions
2. Everyone has more time boosts than before thanks to double cadet ads
3. This is more a top 50 whale thing, but no disincentive to go for top 25 from already having the gold 4/5 from packs.

Also more boosts from those $5 offers. I buy em twice every time

And probably a small factor, but 2 factions with always-useful item drops, so no reason not to run all Shuttles as Event Faction shuttles even if not competing, given the skill bonuses ...
To anyone who has finished Quark: how many specialty items and expensive items, and faction-only items does he require?
I didn’t have a problem with faction-only items. In fact, I only had to run missions for gear for three items (one each at level 70, level 90, and level 100). The biggest pain for me was the 3 3* alcohols for the final bloodwine...I bought one from a faction store, had one in stock, and had to replicate the third after striking out on warping Operation Isolate five times.
Competition is definitely tougher than usual. I also chalk it up to the high number of bonus crew and wider availability of boosts. Not sure if I will be able to make top 1k this event, and I usually don't have any trouble.

Fourth thing - the rank reward is a Picard variant. No matter how you feel about this particular version, or that he now has 47 variants in the game (ok, not quite that many) - he is a fan-favorite, he is main cast, and he will be bonus crew next week (and in many future weeks), so there is significant incentive for players to get him.

No, not really. In fact I am doing slightly better than usual by this time as normally I'd be in the mid 200's right now and I am currently in the mid 100's. I do agree with @Paladin 27 though in regards to using more time boosts as I normally only boost 1 shuttle at a time but this time around I am boosting 2 at a time. Otherwise, everything else is as business as usual for a faction event.
I think everyone and their alternate accounts (if they have any) are competing for top 1k. You often have threshold and and out by a certain number of people every week but I guess this week peaked everyone's interest.

25 basic Rules and 11 2* Bloodwine's are probably his worst needs. He was actually not that bad to level (for me)...
