Honor Sale?

I remember vaguely an Honor Sale in December last year. Think we are going to have one of those again?

Last year's sale ran from 18-21 December for Legendary Beholds and from 18-24 December for packs purchasable with Honor. If that's the template for this year, that would be from Tuesday the 17th through Friday the 20th for the Beholds and the 17th through Christmas Eve for the packs. But that's assuming they repeat the same structure, which is not promised or guaranteed in any capacity.

5* Beholds (12 total)
4 days of 3x 27.000 = 324.000 Honor
Premium 10x packs (40 total)
8 days of 5x 4.000 = 160.000 Honor
Total Honor
484.000
* Addendum
- There are also single Premium pulls for 440 Honor ... but those seem less than ideal to purchase.
- I might be one day off for both, so 3 days and 7 days ... can't remember exactly ... adjust accordingly.
- The average premium 10x pull gives about 700 Honor, so after 40 packs, if you had to airlock all crew, you'd be left with about 28.000 Honor ... just enough to purchase 1 5* behold.
I have seen it repeated on other threads and elsewhere that citations were on sale. That has never happened.
These honor sales do not directly make any money for DB. Just like honor hall crew and gauntlet crew. How many of those have we had since last December?
"One Time Only"
"Once in a Lifetime"
Offers come back. But it's definitely not a given. Remember that it also doesn't cost them anything and it's a great way to keep players engaged. May even convince some players who don't usually spend that they should plop some money down after they remember that sweet sweet high of opening a pack... waiting for the behold at the end... and... OH MY GOD 4*S ALL FULLY FUSED! 🥳🥳🥳
You've never had a furniture store in town? Our local one was "going out of Business" for so many years, people thought it was another sale when they actually were closing.
Now, SOMETHING is going in the old building. No one in the city outside of City Hall knows what, though. The City Council meeting to approve the sale of the building was closed/secret, and the plate glass windows covering the front of the store have black plastic totally covering them, as work is done inside......
And I think they do make money on it. People will buy more packs (and maybe more 10x10!) deals to get a little extra honor. I am sure it indirectly results in some income.
I am fully aware they may not do it again, and that is fine. But it would be nice to know if it was going to happen!

I couldn’t agree more. A three star behold or for 5k more honor a star to put on whoever I want. That is not a tough choice
It would be nice, but don't count on it. Last year, I had just bought a 45K behold one day before the sale was announced. I was happy with the crew I got, but annoyed for days about the 18K "lost" honor. I got over it of course, but the point is - until something is announced, it does not exist.
make it so!

Yes ... if you are strapped for crew space and don't have many of the in-portal 5* crew, then a 27,000 Honor 5* behold (the discounted price) is probably not worth it, as chances are you'll be getting in new 1/5s in each behold.
However, if like me you've got:
- plenty of crew space to spare (about 45);
- a good percentage of the in-portal 5*s (including crew I don't own but would like to such as Away Team Burnham or Stranded Quark or EMA or ...);
- aren't bothered about who to star up (would like to add stars to about 65% of the 5* crew I own);
- have a long list of crew who would be beneficial with extra stars.
Well, then a behold isn't bad ... the chances that I get an additional star for someone I own (or want) are about one crew in every behold. So, if I can, more or less, get two citations for the price of one, I'm okay with that, no matter who they go to ... I mean, I could be lucky and get a star for the likes of Braxton or Da Vinci (who I'll eventually cite anyway) or be unlucky and get stars for Bateson or AF Bashir or Mirror Reed (just one step closer to the freezer).
I've got so many 1/5's and 2/5's in portal that I think I can come out ahead. And I've got space for the few that I may not already have. Here's to hoping the previous popularity cuts in our favor.
First, I wouldn't do the beholds unless you have about 2/3 of the portal legendaries at 1/5 to 4/5. This gives you reasonable odds to add stars.
Second, if you don't already have some good voyage crew (and Killy/RPC for skirmishes) at 4/5 or better, then your honor is probably better spent getting to that point.
Personally, I'm consistently getting 9.5+ hour voyages. I'll be happier filling in some stars at a cheaper rate.
Is it "fun" to put a star on a pre-selected crew? Or is it more fun to get a Behold! and see what interesting choices you might get? We all love beholds (don't we?), so have some fun and a buy a few.
If you are able to get a "discounted" star for an existing crew, perfect! If you are able to add a new crew that you've wanted, perfect! Spin the wheel, win fabulous prizes!
If you get 3 choices that you wouldn't wish on your enemies, well, that's sometimes how things go too.
As far as your roster status... as long as your 5/5 legendary count is reasonably low, I think buying beholds is a viable strategy. You can't cite crew that you don't have, after all.
(Full disclosure: I've spent honor for 30 citations in 2019. Of these, 5 of them were for beholds and 25 were for straight-up stars.)
To be fair, a behold provides the *chance* for fun, rather than guaranteed fun. An all-immortal behold or one that includes three of the many extremely underwhelming crew are the opposite of fun. Even if you get a desirable crew, the excitement would be muted if you’re short on open slots.
On the flip side, having a plan and executing it does indeed bring some people joy...it might take longer to be apparent, but it is there. I look at the last crew data dump I got out of IAP versus my crew now, and the results of carefully planning citations are at least as exciting as the random drops I’ve gotten from beholds along the way.
Unless you need the space and plan to freeze crew, i have always recommended to build evenly. When/if honor sale comes i will be be citing my 1/5 and 2/5. I never cite a 4/5 to 5/5 bcuz i have had too many disappointments with all 3 begold choices FF. Already.
Then if i have some left (i have been saving also) i will go for the discount begolds. If it happens.
Methinks you may need to chastise your hired help for unnecessary editorializing during your dictations.
Yeah ... citing up strong crew you have is probably the way to go to be able to achieve more in the game ... especially at the cost citations/5* beholds are right now ... until a while back, I consistently purchased a couple of citations a month to improve my crew.
As for discount beholds ... it is all a matter of how you want to play really ... I purchased two last year nabbing me Honey Bare and Zhian'tara Odo (considered quite good before/around that time) ... I had so few 5* crew at the time I figured any that I might pick up would bolster my crew over the 4*s I was running ... I've since immortalised Honey Bare (with citations) and Z'Odo is still a 1/5 (now only used during events he provides bonus - but for a while was a good DIP shuttler).
I had points 1, 2 and 4 of my above post ... but mainly I was just keen to get some new faces on board and wanted to see what it was like getting a behold like that. There's usually at least one half-decent option. I've not purchased one since at the regular cost.
I have 250+k Honor at present so if they hold a sale would do a couple of 5* beholds again ... but I'll mainly pull 10x packs ... hopefully to FF some older 4*s and maybe be lucky and get a 5* behold in one of those too.
