    These are my favourite events
I would love to see many more of these. I understand some people dislike them.
If they were part of the standard rotation of events I would be most happy.

I strongly dislike Expedition events. However, I recognize the importance of variety, and clearly others in the community really enjoy them.

I just hope when they're used it's limited to hybrid events.

While everyone keeps talking about the monetization of Expeditions being the limiting factor for DB, I'd more likely think it's that these have to be more taxing on their staff from a coding and story writing perspective. Think about it: Galaxy and Faction events have intro text, end text, and then small sentences for each mission/build (Galaxies have mid-event break text too). It's all probably a page of writing total. Skirmishes only have intro, middle, and end text (probably a half a page at most), then they reuse all the ship fighting that's already in the code. Expeditions have more with all the nodes and figuring out skills for nodes, success and failure text, VP node placement, etc; it's just so much more work.

With that in mind, I'm betting this is an experiment to see how the players respond to redoing Expeditions. If it goes well enough, I'd expect we'll have only Expeditions that are reruns/flashbacks from here on out (ie: no need to make new text or code), and these will probably only be once a quarter (at most).

This is my least favorite event type. The crew sorting doesn't exist as in all other events. The tickets are ridiculous, just give them all to me or allow them to roll over. I don't care how many missions are available but I would like to start at epic.

All in all this event needs work. When they come up my favorite thing about them is I don't play that weekend and spend time doing something else.

Well I actually did write an entire expedition event story line a while back and all I was missing was stats for passing and criting and things, but intro text, in between each mission text, success and failure messages for each node text, and outro text were all drafted and finished within a week. I also created the 5 star event crew (this was back before the gold for next week was the ranked reward) and his item list and stats and even made him not insanely power creeped but modestly powered up. And this was all in the course of one week while also having real life things to do. Now if one player can write a whole event (minus numbers which could be just copy and pasted from previous expedition events) in a week plus a complete gold characters stats and item list... I have a hard time thinking they can't do these more often, but then I'm not sure about the art and also coding but I'm positive the writing is easy. They also could, oh I don't know, maybe use my event story line

After I've finished my tickets I feel relieved. And I would change my vote to "I never want to see this again", at least not until the crew can be favourited and the animations can be turned off.

A week ago my vote would have been to have 2-3 Expeditions a year. Having been fully reminded of what an Expedition entails, I'm fine with one every 10-14 months.

But let's keep them as full Expeditions, please, as a hybrid would remove the expeditioniness of the event - most players would just hammer the Galaxy/Skirmish/Faction part instead.

But that’s the whole point...Expedition lovers can dive head-first into the Expedition half and Expedition haters can avoid it. :) With this in mind, I don’t think they could be hybridized with Faction events - just Skirmish or Galaxy events. It’s easy to amass a lot of VP in a short amount of time in Expeditions (my 475,075 VP is below 3,500th place right now and probably will end up around 4,000 by the end) and Factions aren’t built for that in only two days. Without revising the VP levels for rare reward nodes (leading to yet more coding), I don’t see how a Faction/Expedition hybrid would be able to maintain the balance that could please both sides of the Expedition debate.

I think you would have to do the expedition first, then the faction. I don't see it being a problem that way. You either do a little in expedition, then hit the faction hard, or do the reverse of that, or just play hard in both phases.

The problem is when you hybridize the VP needs to be roughly equal. If not, then the second half needs to be higher and easier to do more.

In a hybrid, you'd get 9 expedition tickets ignoring threshold. That's ~600k VP give the current event. No one is making that up in a faction half. Even just missing saturday morning tickets at the end leaves you 200k short and facing a hopeless climb in a faction half.

One or two of these per year is plenty, but I could also be for having them as half of a hybrid event every 2 months or so. It's a nice change of pace, but it's a time **tsk tsk** for a lot less rewards as compared to a skirmish.

Ten is far too few for an entire ticket, but I'd love a pool of 25-35 crew to use per ticket, a la the Gauntlet. That was plenty to complete an Expedition in 2016 when I was VIP 0, so it should be more than enough now after four years of power creep.

Also, I'm totally on board with pinning event crew, but I think y'all have overlooked how helpful it would be for the crew sorting to drop crew as they weaken.

Quite an interesting proposition. Do you use the event crew on the shuttles or keep them out for those first three tickets?

My philosophy on faction last is that's where the whales pay money to win. DB stands to profit from whales who can't be bothered to do as much on expedition.

Looking at the counter arguments, I could see it going either way. :)

That's the opposite of what I was saying a little while ago (in this thread or another one maybe?). I was thinking it reduced the monotony to just have the Expedition last for half the event.

But you usually have some good rationale, @Travis S McClain. Can I ask why you feel that way?

Send out shuttle until you are ready to do the expedition, then use three tickets, then send shuttles out again. In the first 12 hours of an expedition event (or phase) I have about a 3-4 hour window where I can play the expedition.

In addition you may not want to use event crew for the easiest two difficulties on the first ticket, keep them back until Epic difficulty is unlocked for all missions. On this event I was taking 10-15 minutes per ticket after the first ticket, so the three tickets could be easily be spent in one hour.

Looking on the wiki, expeditions have been parts of five hybrid events. One Skirmish/expedition, three faction/expedition, and the infamous "The Weak Will Perish" which was the only one with expedition first.

10 would be interesting. Really make a challenge. It would be 2 event crew + 7 other crew. That might not be enough to complete a ticket, although debating how to prioritize missions would be a new challenge. 15 crew would be 3 event crew + 2 for each other skill. I imagine that could be doable with some thought. 35 crew would let you have 2 for every skill pair plus the event crew. That's probably more than I used and would only help by limiting scrolling.

I think 20 would be a good challenge without being too hard for people.

I was really looking forward to something different (the last expedition was in my first month of playing so I definitely didn’t know what I was doing— or had good enough crew to play Epic), but, my God, I couldn’t believe how much of a grind the Expedition was after using my first three tickets in the first half of the Event.

Because so many said they were out after getting Detective Data, I thought I may have a chance at T’Pol. So I pushed hard on Sunday— I was busy and couldn’t play much Fri & Sat— and I hit the wall, hard.

I gave up after I got Data. I just couldn’t do it anymore. Maybe if I was more organized and kept track of which crew I chose for each run, I could just duplicate it over and over every ticket, but I play to have fun and wasn’t keeping track. This wasn’t fun.

Not having event crew easy to find got really annoying, having Doctor LaForge as a reward in threshold and the rankings (?) wasn’t much incentive, and watching the animations over and over became a time **tsk tsk**. I was practically hallucinating after a few hours. I stopped playing Normal after the second ticket yesterday and even stopped looking for event crew in Epic at the end (my event crew couldn’t hit the nodes on the high end missions) because it wasn’t worth looking for them after a while.

All that being said, I’m glad they gave us a break from the other Event types. But once or twice a year is enough for me (no matter what I voted for when the Event started). I’d love it in a hybrid, but I think many gave good points saying a hybrid with Expedition would be difficult to level the halves.

Once I figured out I could tap through the animations I actually didn't mind the event. I think a couple of times a year would be a nice change to mix things up. I like the early challenge of utilising your crew but it did get a big repetitive towards the end. I don't think it's any more repetitive than a skirmish but it just doesn't give the freebies like skirmish does.

Maybe if they took away the tickets in threshold and added a reward like skirmish then more people would purchase extra tickets for the rewards. I would be one that would.

I just made top 5k In an event for the first time last event and finished top 1500 this one so I’m definitely biased but I really enjoyed it. Got to use ton of crew and it was fun to see crew I really like (q as god, cpt Spock, queen po as examples) be real mvps with their stat combo. I had just ff frank hollander before the event and wasn’t sure it was a good choice so it was also nice to be rewarded.
I really don’t get all the ppl complaining about not being able to do other things while playing or needing to pay real attention while doing the event, it’s just bizarre to me ppl would prefer mindless tapping like galaxy (which also drains your Chrons) over this. Galaxy are the events I dislike and I usually do a few during second half to get the crew and then stop. This was much more rewarding and as a player who just hit 1 year it was a badly needed fresh face to keep me interested. And I earned a gold tpol to start me off right for the next event which was a first.

I was VIP 0 when most of the Expeditions originally ran, having to make do with 35 crew. A large percentage were cadets for the daily challenges and works in progress who weren't at their full capacity. Whenever I make suggestions, it always comes from thinking about the players in similar circumstances today. There are (hopefully) scads of newcomers all the time, still building their crews and chipping away at things. There are players who can't run Away Missions whenever they want because most everyone they need to do them are on a Voyage or shuttles, and they have to wait forever for their chronitons to recharge. Those players could not possibly complete a ticket using just ten crew.
