I'm going to submit a CS ticket and see if there is anything we can work out.
I recommend this. The worst that can happen is they say "no" and you're back where you started. Personally, I would think twice about upsetting players who may have spent $200 on Tuesday packs.
I would actually advise AGAINST this.
You were an early adopter and paid the price. So did I. Maybe not to the tune of $200 but in the high amount of dilithium.
Now, you're just clogging up the queue of tickets with more of a complaint, than a legitimate issue.
Agreed, this isn't for those who can dunk money on Tuesdays, this is a gift to show representation and what a card to do it with. I suspect this is also to compliment Lenara Khan in the campaign.
What the France. I appreciate the gesture and all, but I am pretty pissed. I went crazy and spent way too much money to get her (such terrible RNG) and then used 4 citations. Nine weeks, just nine weeks, and now everyone has her. Not cool.
I understand being upset, but as she’s primarily great for voyages, you still preserve your advantage if you start a second copy of her. Meanwhile, many of us who are less whaley will have her at one star for a while. You’re still ahead! Don’t worry.
As much as part of me wants to be grumpy that I could have spent citations differently and not lost a crew slot, this is a pretty awesome gift. I still think Reno should have been the campaign gold but this is a phenomenal gesture.
Before now, the previous time between initial Tuesday pack release and wider availability was Queen Po. Her campaign was somewhere in the 4 month neighborhood. 9 weeks appears to be a new record. Every time devs do something like this, there is outrage. I remember it with Queen Po. Frankly, I don't see why this is surprising. Or why people begrudge someone for submitting a CS ticket. If that outlet keeps them from being bitter, then they are more likely to continue spending.
Now, if they were being disruptive, uncivil, and hateful, then I would be the first one to say they should calm down. But frankly, if someone spent $200 and they take 30 minutes of CS time... Well, they paid for that and then some, so whatevs. Just the same as everyone getting a Reno doesn't hurt the early adopter's game, the early adopter swapping that for a citation doesn't hurt anyone else's game. I say we let CS sort it out and leave it at that.

While not as available as a global gift, Mycelial Culber was in a less crowded event pack 7 weeks after his release.

That's definitely interesting. As I recall there were two legendaries and the price point was still 650. The odds were significantly better, but still a costly proposition, at least compared to free.
Thank you for that clarification. I think it does add to the perspective.
This is my first Reno star, is she worth levelling up at 1/5?
It probably depends on your options. On my roster, she's not worth it until an event comes her way.
Medic Reno is a "Tier 2" crew according to the Big Book -- not Tier 1, but pretty darn close. (There are 10 total tiers in the Big Book.) Her statistical strength is in voyages. So, for the vast majority of captains, she's worth citing.
That said, it's reasonable to think that Doctor Van Gogh will have a similar or even the same skill set. I'd wait until tomorrow when his stats are released to see if you want to put your citations on Reno or on Van Gogh.

The pressure is on for Van Gogh to be awesome now that everyone got Med-Eng-Sci Reno. If Van Gogh is not similar my cites will go to Reno and I will have two of her.

I am not sure how much pressure to expect since Suspiria somehow ended up CMD/SEC/DIP...

Well she did command a group of Ocampans and she was very powerful so security fits. Diplomacy does not work though, that should have been engineering or science.

I think her Skills seriously were based on the reason I predicted them. She has the three Banjo Bob does not have. I think it is highly likely that that was the extent of the thought and consideration applied to choosing her Skills.

Are people going to leave a "good" or "bad" rating if they're told they won't swap in a cite in exchange for Reno? CS reps in STT are highly dependent on these survey ratings. You're encouraging people to roll the dice on what's, most likely, a lose-lose scenario for those CS agents.
It's not in human nature to leave a good rating in surveys when they don't get what they want
Thank you. As someone soft on Med and Eng, I welcome her!
And that is why I love packs like this: Because someone "younger" than me in the game gets a huge boost from one of these & celebrates for us to see. Sorry (not) if that makes me a "boomer" in STT terms, but I do like to celebrate the little victories we all experience.
Until I don't.

I must be super human then, because I've done exactly that - twice when I didn't get what I wanted. I don't know about all cases, but I think those who have been civil here (i.e. Bylo), can be trusted to be civil with CS. I've been "derided" as "Admiral Positivity" so maybe I'm overly confident in the community.

maybe so, but I think you are in the minority.
This isn't a CS issue. They're not fixing something that's broken.
We, as players, chart our own course of action, sometimes with advice from "veteran" players, or even "whales". We look at new characters, look at their statistics, or some even if it's a character they really like, and we make decisions whether to chase, to level, to cite, etc with no idea what's coming in future weeks or months. Players don't know what WRG is going to throw out there, so it's on them to try to make the best decisions for their roster.
In this scenario, those of us who chased and immediately cited her to 5/5 are on the wrong end of a business decision.
The only scenario where i would condone a CS ticket here would be if you cited her in the last 14 days.

I've been on the wrong end of a business transaction several times. When there is no outlet to address grievances, I cease business transactions with that company. So I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. If Shan or a dev came on to say "do not submit a CS ticket," then that would be that. In the absence of such a statement, I think the respectful thing to do is let the individual decide whether or not to submit a ticket. And of course, encourage them to be civil.
I've gotta side with SSR Barkley on this one. I realize that there are quite a few players (including, alas, a few members within my fleet) who will submit tickets when something like this happens. Many players who will submit a ticket even when they know there was no mistake made, but just when they didn't like something that happened because of a decision that they themselves made. (A smaller subset is players who try to game the system when they know they're completely in the wrong.)
There is a not-insubstantial crossover of those same players who are the ones who then complain that CS is taking so long to respond to an actual, legitimate issue that they have.
I've worked in customer service, and believe me, it's super frustrating for a rep when you're under the gun, but customers with real problems have to wait because of customers contacting you with issues that aren't really issues.
So, imo, "I spent $300 on this 3-piece suit, and then a month later the store discounted it to half price," isn't the store's problem to solve. It's just that you ended up with a bad spin on the wheel of fate.
Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing. ~ Data, ST:TNG "Haven"
Medic Reno is definitely worth having two of, which is possibly why TP chose her.
OR speculation that Doc Van Gogh might have the same skills could be right, and TP realized this might be the best day to get a lot of players to fork out $25 on DYC offers.
This Reno thing sounds like a minor version of "Mirror Picard".
For me, I am glad I finally have a Reno, but I will not be levelling her until I need her. I will not be wasting cites on her when I have other crew that fill in her skills, and I have crew whose skill set is more important that I need to immortalise.
