I suppose there might be future plans that will benefit from this. If so, they should be open with us. Untel then, this is a worse-that-worthless monstrosity that just adds clicks and annoys me.
Show me how it is better, and I will be your champion. Add "enhancements" that take more of my time and give me nothing, and you just annoy me and encourage me to finally quit this "game" that is really a time-wasting casino.
Remember how the daily achievement screen was redone and people complained about it despite it clearly making space for new things? And then campaigns were launched using that space?
Ben in his interview/demo has already said the event hub will allow for future enhancements. How about we let them roll out those enhancements before resorting to pitchforks?

Because this version of the screen is ready. And doing small incremental releases lets you test each step and confirm it's working. You don't want to announce a mini-event and then have to cancel it because it turns out the event hub has a bug. Right now if they catch an issue with the event hub they can roll it back and delay any mini-event until they fix the hub.
A good garish start. I personally would like not just the top 50, and the my own ranks but the entire breakdown of ranks down to rank 5000 so we can grab some perspective on how ranks are fluctuating between events. And me loving numbers, I would like more than the last 8 events (can we go back in time to 2016? Probably not, would be really interesting to see though)
I personally don't mind the extra tap/click. When you tap 8000+ times in a galaxy, one extra is not much. But yeah, would like that countdown back on the front of my screen, same with community rewards for Galaxy events. I could see a lot of newer players missing that (and we all know how vital honor is in those early days).
A further suggestion? Okay then. Keep those store purchases available for those events. People want to go back to Travers and click the 650 button a ton. Let them perhaps? Life sometimes gets in the way when people have the dilithium lined up for their favourite roulette spin.
I'm optimistic for what it means for the future, but why couldn't you just use the old design to enter into events? The one with the timer and a small portrait of who you could compete to win? That one looked much better. Honestly, the current button looks kinda cheap. It sticks out, and it sticks out in a bad way. If it's absolutely necessary to go with a solid color. I honestly think the yellow you already use for notifications would be better. It still sticks out, making it easier to see, but it's not the only thing that color on the entire screen.
Someone in the discord had a fantastic idea of keeping the old event access the same, but you could replace the scan button with access to the event hub. That way it would be more integrated in-game. (events are a much bigger part of the game than scans anyway) Scans could be moved somewhere else or the daily mission could be replaced with something like starbase donations or gauntlet rounds. I understand the original point of scans was to encourage players to come back every few hours but voyages easily accomplish that now.
When an event is live, I'd rather not have to click through the event hub to get to it. It's an extra click every time, and feels unnecessary. Instead, I think you should jump into the current event, and be able to go "back" to the hub if you wish.
When an event isn't live, I think this setup works well.

Having chosen to sandbag until the second phase, I had no idea the community reward thresholds were cleared until I went to look at the threshold rewards to scope out Pike’s gear...I’d argue that the current design of the button isn’t just an inconvenience with the number of taps required to get in, the lack of a timer or reminder of claimable rewards makes events become an easily-overlooked piece of background scenery rather than a major game feature.
If I put myself in WRG’s shoes, I would think that players should be reminded of the event as often as possible. Doing so through splash screens like those that come up after login would get intrusive but having a fairly nondescript button that blends into the background goes too far in the other direction. Making it yellow would help, as would reintegrating the event timer and the Claim Rewards notification.
So far it's not notifying me that a reward is available. Thought we hadn't gotten the community reward yet.
That's because it is a flashy new toy, not an actual improvement. I want to believe that it will be useful eventually, but their track record is not great. I'd feel a lot better if they actually told us what was planned instead of vague hints about some future possibilities that someone hoped they saw in their tea leaves.

Also, as new events get announced, the Event Hub will be updated with the information for those upcoming events. Finally, the Event Hub will be where you can claim all your event rewards moving forward.
-- mini-events, new Distress Call?
The goal was to have both of these out sooner, and they are still planned. They will go live later than we anticipated due to priorities and resources having shifted, as is often the case in game development. Regarding Mini-Events their structure and rewards will be different that what was shown during that one beta mini-event. For instance, it is unlikely that rewards will provide Dilithium.
We have another event here in an announced state - in a preview state. We have the event splash, there's also a pack you can purchase. From a content and live ops point of view, we're still trying to figure out how early we can get the next event's pack out and what that means for testing. Can a crew go out a week early? And how would we have to test that in the week before the event so there's a little work there that we have to do to figure that stuff out.
But from the announced phase of the event, you can see the event rewards (community, squadron, etc.) and the event rules as well so that you can properly prepare and see what crew are going to get a bonus in the next event so you have more time to prep [...] And this opens the door for us to experiment more with mini-events and then hopefully soon to come objective events and achievement events.
During the design stages our overall goal - it would be really cool if we could just announce a whole mega event and see all [the events] there. That's something that we're striving for, but that's a really big ask from the live ops team and trying to figure out how we can get to that point where we can be a month, month and a half ahead on crew, approvals, and things like that.

soooo maybe we could get event info for all 4 weeks at once by the time Deep Space Nine-ember rolls around in a month and a half?
So, based on Auto's quotes, the 7 or whatever past events are largely placeholders, to be replaced with previews/announcements of upcoming (mega)events?
If I'm reading it correctly, potentially announcing new (mega)event crew a month in advance (i.e. if all 4 weeks of the mega are previewed, we'd know the new 4/5-star character for Week 4 at the same time we'd learn about Week 1's), that would be a a nice change, rather than trying to speculate on the star/variant of the crew listed. It also would let me plan my dilithium spending: if I know there's going to be a variant I like in Week 3, I might not buy a random 490 pack; by contrast, if it's a version I don't like of a character I generally do buy, that same 490 pack might be more tempting.
And potentially being able to buy the crew week(s) in advance sounds good, but aren't most of the top tier players who'd buy that able to blitz through leveling/citing with a day's notice under the current system? While it's always good to have information in game as opposed to having to go on Twitter or the forums (so I'm ignoring the argument that "top players already check the forums/Twitter, so this isn't new information for them"), is "more time to prep" really helpful? If you have a bunch of X variants cryo'd, it only takes a few minutes to re-roster them; even if you know a week ahead of time, those type of players (I assume) are unlikely to re-roster them until right before the event starts, as opposed to having "worthless" crew take up roster slots for a full week or whenever the event info gets posted to the Event Hub, so how much of a benefit is being gained for those type of players?
One thing to note, you're forced to claim past event rewards now in order to enter the event hub to start any event. You used to be able to start some events, like Factions, without claiming previous event rewards. It's something that wasn't used frequently but was often useful for managing crew slots.
I suppose there might be future plans that will benefit from this. If so, they should be open with us. Untel then, this is a worse-that-worthless monstrosity that just adds clicks and annoys me.

Telling us what they did in the past, as an example of what MAY happen in the future, doesn't invalidate his opinion, that if we knew what the plans were for this feature, we could support it. The lack of being transparent is what makes this feature seem to be a total waste of effort that introduces extra clicks at no benefit. We can only judge it on what we see now, not what can be. As far as we know, they don't have plans, and will only change and alter it once we give feedback, and then pretend it was their idea all along.
I personally think its more likely that this feature is just going to be used in some way to monetize something else. But I"ll wait and see.
Maybe I’m missing something, but I really don’t get the point of it. It’s just extra clicks I have to make which is kind of annoying. You can’t see the timer for the next event phase and it doesn’t tell you if you have anything to collect until you click on it. It just seems weird tbh
Wait, is that what the button looks like on a bigger screen? Hmm, that's actually somewhat ok. On a phone, it obscures the chat notification indicator (apologies that I don't have a screenshot with an unread chat, but the problem should be obvious enough).
Mine was yellow, and said "CLAIM" until I collected, when I signed in today. Maybe a glitch it is not showing for everyone? I was at about 80,000 and did not collect anything until Community was finished.

They should move the chat button across to be above the Faction Center button, and then have the old Event Button under the Event Hub button so that we can easily click through to live events, see their timers, and see active claims available.
(If we have concurrent live events, we'd need at least a second live event button, which may be awkward on a lower-resolution screen as above - but the second, third events etc would still be accessible through the Event Hub, at least.)
Nice job with the Event Hub! No harm making things a little more visually appealing. Time and a Photo, solid purple is a bit drab. Thanks keep up the new features.
Do I detect sarcasm? lol

there was a clear preview of the current event visible on the screen, whereas now everyone who wants to take part in one has to manually check the event hub first.
I thought it was a glitch myself and reloaded the game a few times. Hopefully it's temporary because I'm usually busy with work and play when I get a chance during the day. If it wasn't for my fleet talking about the event in discord, I would have been late even knowing the event had started.

I feel that there's a lot that could be done to improve this feature and if it's just building foundations for that then it's probably a good thing. However, as its stands this feels like a swing and a miss.
One possibility is that for something like a mega event you could have a different, larger set of thresholds that are held in a different event tab which could be good.
I can't see unclaimed rewards from the main screen so I didn't know first community threshold had been hit.
The main positive is that I can see my exact score from past events which is unnecessary.
Agreed. But as has been mentioned, hopefully this is a transition to a better system. A teething phase that won't remain "a known issue" for years to come, heh! As it is, I think it may lose new players if it stays with the blank purple "Event Hub" icon. I remember first playing and it was confusing enough to learn the game system. The countdown and the next reward or claimable reward was very handy. As it is now with "Event Hub", only experienced players really know what it means. I'd like to see the game continue to be successful. I do look forward to the mini-events. Don't have to play them, but more options gives more flexibility to the game.

I get that this enables future functionality, but what the heck is the point of inconveniencing the players until that functionality actually arrives?

- More clicks to get into the event.

As for the lack of countdown I've forwarded the feedback.
Likewise for the extra click.

I can already see my ranking in the fleet details and I don't really care who spent most money won the last event.
I hope it gets better in the future...
Trying is the first step towards failure.

Yesterday there were some complaints that it doesn’t show a Claim button when the community rewards were unlocked.
This. I woke up this morning ‘no threshold pull? I could swear it was almost there when I signed off of STT last night...’
Also, not just Community Rewards but any rewards would be nice
