Huh. I wish I knew this was basically a gauntlet event. I tried creating my voyage like I would a normal one. The two highlighted traits are COM and DIP yet the couple of encounters I've had so far are use MED and ENG which is annoying.
I've mostly had encounters every half hour but now I'm going on over an hour without another one. Is there no way to tell when they happen?
When you click on View Event, the VP displayed in the Next Reward/Progress is not current. You need to enter the event to get VP Counter updated, then exit event to claim any rewards that may be forthcoming.
I notice that the skill numbers lit up for the gauntlet part do not necessarily match the skills needed. I use saw lit numbers that were higher than the advisory and assumed they would win. But the lit numbers were for a different skill. It isn't as simple as yellow or green. It seems the yellow match, but if you have a boosted match, it will show green. But a boosted not-match will show green, too.
I am holding my tech comments until i have played this more so as to shorten my complaints. Which I find funny the title says “complaints” 🫣
But a note on my thoughts so far…. This will be an entirely 100% pay to win event. None of the overcomplicated mechanics matter when all you must do is buy enough event packs to get the “challenge skip” tokens. Use those to “buy” a massive stock in proficiency % bonus VP, then use dilithium to extend your voyage indefinitely through the event end.
If you can skip each challenge and still obtain the “pass” bonus and never fail, reset, or lose % VP bonuses
If you never start another voyage you retain the proficiency bonuses and earn more VP?
Is this correct? Please tell me this is not how it works….anyone?
If so it entirely loses the fun of playing the event and makes it much less desirable.
Has anyone tried "voyage revival"? Can it be used like a normal voyage?
The voyage returns instantly so it’s different from the normal voyage that takes time to return. You can start another voyage right after that if you want.
I wouldn't buy anything, but I maxxed out as many quipment boosts as I could get. I started with 4500 AM and some truly amazing totals. 9 hours and 47 minutes in, I have 3838 AM. It would be more but I messed up the first reward gauntlet due to picking glowing numbers rather than matching ones. Also due to the odd crew selection, I accidentally left Picard and his horse in the pasture. Oops. Didn't bother with the 4* event crew.
Next time, I'll do the same to max all the quipment. I'm tempted to get a 4th container thing to do more continuum missions. But I'll probably save all this dilithium for more crew slots.

If AM falls to zero, are the collected items gone? Or do you take them with you? If they expire, a recall before 0 would be useful.

I wondered this too, and then I accidentally got a chance to find out. (Because keeping track of the timings when you're running 4 voyages across 2 accounts is hard.) Anyway, to answer your question - the voyage insta-recalls and you keep everything. I also had the option to extend w/ a voyage token, so there's a chance this behavior (i.e., keep the rewards) is beta-only, but that's what I know for the moment.

Good to know -- thanks, Ishmael!
I passed the last threshold earlier in the evening, and just had my dilemma at 11:30, but my AM is down to 1200, so I'm wondering how much further I can go.
There are several things I find quite confusing about the event still, but at least I get the general idea. I guess I'll use Encounter Skip overnight, although I'm not entirely sure about the details of that, either, other than it skips over the dilemma(s) and you "win" the battles -- but whether or not you get as much VP doing that as if you'd manually played them, I dunno.
There should have at least been an in-game mail several days ago, explaining how the event works, or at the very least, pointing to a YouTube video explainer.
There’s a video posted on their YouTube channel about this and their roadmap. I noticed it only because I’m subscribed to their channel. Haven’t watched it yet. I didn’t see an announcement about it anywhere. Yeah an in game announcement would have been nice.
Just watched the part of the video (which is shown as a live stream video for anyone going to their channel), and from what I saw, it's pretty useless. Very few of the details I wanted to know were provided. I hope that between this "test" and the first "official" run of this new event type, somebody at TP writes out all the details and posts that here to the forum.
In lieu of that, I'm sure that players will come up with more of the details as they stumble upon them in this test, but it shouldn't be necessary for us to figure out how an event is played. 🙄
Yeah, there's a lot about how we're actually earning VP (and how it is modified by various things) that needs some industrious folks to summarize and post. I'm sure we'll get that info soon enough. For now, I'm just puttering around with it and seeing what happens.

They did that once upon a time. I wouldn't bet a nickle to a dollar they'd do it now.
Twice now, after choosing my crew for the event, I have gone to select my standard voyage with the standard voyage still showing the primary/secondary skills of command/diplomacy and then being different once the voyage is sent.
My first voyage turned out to be command/medical and my current one is now diplomacy/security.
Not a total loss, but it still won't make it to the 10 or 12 hour mark without a revival - not when one of the skills are set incorrectly.
What I'm interested in is that when I recall the ship, are there not only the (unimportant) items, but also the points that are at the top of the list? So my current score + the points in the travel inventory?
This also happened to me. Started a normal voyage straight after event voyage - skills were cmd / dip. Was surprised when failure imminent came up before 10 hours - looked and voyage was dip / sci

I believe the Points count towards the total score as you get them. But, then we got that message in-game making it sound like even they are unsure.
"The truth is like a lion; you don't have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself."
So we can use voyage revival tokens to keep our multiplier streak going? That's good to hear.
What's annoying is that these voyage "encounters" absolutely do not count towards the daily voyage dilemma. But this event requires you use your best crew so you can't really have two voyages going at the same time, at least not another one that will get very far

I think it depends on what skills are needed. I managed to send a normal voyage and one from event and both went over 10h but for the event one i used a revival to push for the reward points.

Yellow skill: requested skill for the match
Green skill: skill that has received bonus over the voyage.

I agree - there’s some strategy involved which IMO sort of reminds me of the Expedition Events which are sadly no more.

Bonus for it being one that makes us think and not just tap incessantly.
Yes i used 1 and seems to be the same as for normal voyages.

I was wondering this as well, I would love to know how this was possible.
