I could indeed, accept it as a reality, or I could air my opinion in the hopes that some changes are made to (hopefully) make things a little more equitable for myself and others in a similar situation.
Hey... I thought you were bowing out of the forums... must be addictive. First step is acceptance so repeat after me: “hi my name is Belle Anna... and I’m addicted to STT forums...”

OK to be safe, I’m just taking the piss... I’ve been trying to be supportive if you read the posts...
I have, thank you. I was gonna take a breather but yeah. I'm as stubborn as an ox lol and I was very tetchy this afternoon so apols to everyone if I seem to have been a bit grouchy and mean.
I could indeed, accept it as a reality, or I could air my opinion in the hopes that some changes are made to (hopefully) make things a little more equitable for myself and others in a similar situation.
I don't think anyone here was trying to stop you from airing your opinion. But — we are, of course, having a discussion in a public forum... and I happen to disagree with your opinion in this particular case, so I have merely been airing my counter-opinion. I don't do this to assail you or to claim that you can't say whatever it is that you want to say... but if one of those things that you say strikes me as being something I happen to think is wrong, or I otherwise disagree with it, I will say as much. As in any discussion, I try my best to do so without resorting to any personal bashing of any kind, because that's not what we're here for.
I get the sense that you feel you were ganged up on in this thread — although I see there are several others who share your point of view, or parts of it, at least. But again, I don't think it was anybody's intent to gang up on Belle'Anna. As I stated in an earlier post, I think both sides have remained civilized and have presented their points and counterpoints as best they can, without the conversation devolving into ad hominem attacks.
Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing. ~ Data, ST:TNG "Haven"
I'm another Aussie, and I have to agree with Belle'Anna's sentiment here. It was incredibly frustrating to see my rank drop by half in the last three hours of this event, just below 600 to 1124. Would I have place higher if people needed to turn in their rare rewards - maybe, but if i had thought the 1000's were unacheivable that early I'd of saved my items - that's a choice denied to me currently.
Another way to look at it is what's the point in a leaderboard, when people can hide their actual score? This is the only event type which has this option; in factions you need to run a shuttle, which takes time or dilithium. In expeditions you need to run through the missions. Yes this provides a choice in strategy. The main choice in strategy is what you wish to do with the last hours of the event - if you want to buy additional chronitons, if you want to stock pile items, etc. You can see where I put my efforts in and decide to if you wish to.
While some people don't mind the event starting and finishing at irregular times, It would provide a difference for all the people it does effect. Until the Reflections expedition event, the only events running had been galaxy and factions. Factions reward you being ready to start the moment the event starts, and finishing the last shuttle close to the event end. Galaxy events are better, but if there's a run at the end of a galaxy event like the last event, then arguably to compete i need to be awake to do it.
I would also point out as more players join the game, the buffer required to be competitive is growing (an issue effecting game mechanics all over the place). I watched the movement of my rank before going to bed and I thought I was reasonably safe. In most events I suspect I would have been, but with the extra day, more people having FF Picard, and the high threshold reward values, this was easily the biggest drop in rank I've noticed.
Saying this isn't DB's problem to fix is fine, there are always some systematic winners and loosers in how any game is set up, (I do the 2nd phase stockpile myself). I honestly don't expect any changes it would cause player backlash, and there are (probably) not enough players or big spenders in my time region. But I'm glad Black Pebble will consider it, perhaps particularly if they are considering designing new events?
If you really think the start time doesn't matter, imagine if an event started and ended at 4am in New York, and then think of how the forums would light up!

@guest_830747860762624 you are contradicting yourself here, first you say that timing for Australia is not great and then you say it's not a DB thing to fix. In my opinion it is a DB thing to fix, full stop. Tell me one thing, if you were part of an event which gets over at say Noon Aussie time and you only have Aussies playing it, you would use any strategy available to you to finish as high as possible in an event.
Your major issue is not last minute super rare turn ins by others, its the timing of it.
I am based out of UK and days between when starbase was introduced and recent client update enabling auto collection of starbase rewards, there were only 4 days when I was able to claim 50chron reward and numerous other level 3 rewards because daily reset time was at 4 or 5am UK time (depending on daylight saving). (Just to clarify we are a very active fleet and we are already level 51 in starbases and constantly rank around 100, so please don't reply saying change your inactive fleet).
Another example is Gauntlet, during summer they get over at 1am UK time, i get up for work at 7am, not possible for me to stay up and play Gauntlet that late. There have been hundreds of occasion (not even exaggerating) where I was ranked first with a margin of 500+ and sometimes 1000+ and i get up next day to finish anywhere from rank 2 to 8, and once i was ranked 12. There was a time I was so pissed off at not finishing rank 1 that I stopped playing Gauntlet for almost 4 months.
It's exactly same as in your case that someone spends money, dil, chrons, super rare to raise their rank and you miss out on better prizes. I understand there is difference between daily Gauntlet rewards and weekly event rewards and some might say that it's like comparing apples to oranges. But bottom line is that the issue that needs fixing is the time zone management by DB and not strategy.
We play event for fun and love of Star Trek but there is still a competitive side to it and purpose of an event is to rank as higher as possible along with maintaining the spirit of the game. If you call last minute super rare turn ins as destroying or against spirit of game then as per me using dil in event is also against spirit of game.
I will say again, issue is poor timezone implementation by DB in a game played worldwide rather than strategy and only DB needs to fix this.
P.S. i am just saying out loud my opinion, this post is not to bash or insult or target anyone individually.
Hi folks, I just want to be clear that there are no plans currently to change how turn-ins work. Nor am I planning on making that recommendation.
Good lord man! Isn't it rather early to be working?
I'm glad there are no plans to change things. I think it's unnecessary. VP totals are VP totals regardless of whether they're claimed throughout or in the last hour.

Time zones are an issue, but again that solves nothing for people in the position of
, as they are already in the Timezone it is set up for. I'm saying this is a frustration, but I also accept that if you have all players playing the same event, then it needs to start and finish at a bad time for someone. The only alternative I can see would be a rolling start, and I'm no IT expert, but that seems like a nightmare to manage. My main desire is that either it's not always me that it's bad for, or at least that sometimes the impact is lessened.
Gauntlet to me seems like a different issue, as it is smaller sub sets of players. They already start 2 day "events" on alternative days, (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) surely this could be broken down into 12 hour or 8 hours brackets?
Perhaps with their planned expansion they will switch to multiple break up the players by region/country/size of little toe, but on one level I'd regret that. I have no chance of ever getting rank 1 in an event, but best in the world does seem like a nice thing to aim for, and all my fleet is elsewhere in the world.
PS: no offence taken, and none intended.

I'm with the OP here. It's not a gameplay strategy, it's gamesmanship, trying to affect the psychology of other players rather than actual game strategy. They should be autoredeemed.
One of the other games I play has 72 hour events over the weekend. They also have a world-wide community of players, so face some of the similar time zone issues. The way they deal with it is this:
The event is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on Friday, for everyone, by time zone, and ends 72 hours later. So someone on the American East Coast starts play an hour before someone in the American Midwest, but the player in the Midwest still has an hour of play time remaining when the East Coast player has made his final attempts.
This way, everyone has exactly the same amount of time to play, in exactly the same relative time of day... the event starts for you at 6 a.m. no matter where you are in the world.
This does mean, of course, the event has been over for hours for most people before the results are declared.
See the time zone mis-assumption is that anyone who is awake can play at any time.
Most adults on the US east coast who aren't retired or are college students have jobs.
The events end during our workday.
Though I can get on the forums here and there during the morning if it's slow, I really doubt my employer or most employers are going to allow us to sit on our phones and work through the animations during turn-in for hundreds of super-rares.
That's why I have to turn in usually around 7am ET while on the bus to work if I wait that long. That's 8pm Perth time.
Only a few folks in Europe, college students, the retired and maybe swing/grave workers are truly advantaged by the event end time since it is on a weekday.

Man, that is a horrible idea. If you were in one of the early to close timezones you could be in first place when the event ends for you but every other player in the world knows exactly what they need to get higher than you.
All this would do is ensure that people from a certain area would win every event.
Still here in the UK times aren't exactly great either, events finish during our working day (so many people can't follow properly for the last few hours), the Gauntlet finishes around midnight our time and it is only recently that we were able to claim daily fleet awards earned during our night - I have started getting extra honour and crons since the change.
Another option would be the ability to view the entire leaderboard. Having a snapshot of the top 50 (lol) and the tiny few who have slightly more or less VP than you isn't enormously helpful in determining whether it's worth your while, or indeed have the resources, to do well. It can help with people's strategy. Except, of course, those who have tens of thousands of VP hidden up their sleeve.

How? Everyone has the same amount of time to play. If you play to the best of your ability, I don't see how a later finish time for people who had a later start time is an advantage.
The mad super-rare cash in at the last minute appears to have overloaded the servers, causing a game crash and a hastily thought out compensation causing much ire in our community.
I strongly request that DB ensure that super-rares are cashed in as soon as they are won to prevent this happening again.
This will help even out the scoreboards and allow people like myself to participate fully in galaxy events. In Australia, the event finishes at 4am and with so many people throwing in super-rares at the last minute, not only does it overload the servers it invariably throws anyone with ranked at 500 out of the 1000 threshold. It would make the game much more fair and prevent server crashes in the future.
Please consider this seriously as a fair and effective way of dealing with the problems of the last event to try to ensure they never happen again.
Okay, why are there now multiple threads about "fixing" something that not broken, while there were like eight legitimate issues the week of Christmas?!?!?

Ok. Let me explain. If you are someone who has a start time near the event you might think that 1000 points should be enough to get the win so you stop there. The person who comes towards the end knows that they just need to beat the previous score. They don't have to go all out.
It makes the time zone issue worse for everyone.
Everyone has the same time to play now yet this thread suggests that people who are unable to monitor the end if the event are at a disadvantage but this makes the problem far worse
