Well...I was about to complain about how I pulled one obligatory pack to eventually FF Keiko and how I only ended up with Sato at 1/5* (plus a BeGold that led to star #2 on Admiral Kirk). This makes me not feel so bad.
Why would you complain about that anyways? I pulled Mirror K'ehlyr with my one pull (who I of course already have immortalized).
Your complaint is far more worthy than mine would have been, no doubt. If Prof Sato had been another weak 1/5*, that’s one more crew slot wasted on someone I don’t use and likely will never FF. Of my 55 FE legendary crew at 1/5*, 2/5*, or even 3/5*, this is how my usage breaks down:
-54 total
-2 used for shuttle missions semi-regularly
-2 used in the arena or Skirmish events
-11 routinely useful on voyages
-15 routinely useful in the Gauntlet
Some of these overlap, too, leaving only 24 of 55 partially-fused fully-equipped legendaries (not counting my 4/5* spider people - Arachnia and Barclay) even approaching regular usage. And some of those 29 worthless crew are truly beloved characters like Pointing Sisko, Gangster Kirk, Captain La Forge, or Ushaan Shran.
Adding one more to that list certainly wouldn’t make things better, hence my great feeling of relief at how stunning Sato’s 1/5* stats are.
First, I love the art and character for Sato this week.
Second, I want to echo the sentiments expressed here by my esteemed fellow captains. I went after this character with event packs because of the posted stats. Base stats mainly help with shuttles and away missions/voyages, so I dont think her high base would affect the game like a OP character would for proficency in the gauntlet or ship ability in the arena.
Llately the event characters, for me, have been a huge win.

That COM skill is high but not terribly out of the realm of reality. Yarnek when FF has 1004 base SCI and 896 base COM before starbase bonuses and a tertiary base skill about 75 points higher than Professor Sato’s. Mirror Cochrane is another example, with FF primary and secondary base skills over 1000 and a tertiary over 500.

Well from the “Take me out to the Holosuit” episode I found out that a Starfleet ship had an all Vulcan crew. I had long forgotten the TOS episode where a similar thing was revealed but I assumed it was a Federation ship not Starfleet, but I was wrong.
That’s later explained, in this episode, and further revealed on ENT that the Vulcans were super racist...yeah. Starfleet just tolerates it because reasons.

Isn't that Rikers whole point in the Titan novels when selecting his crew? That segregation still exists in Starfleet without conscious effort against it? I know its novels but still...

From my perspective, the very high base number is great, but Sato is a very low event count variant. So, she's good to round out shuttle seats when you don't have enough event crew to fill them, but otherwise would she have any other use? Especially since dip is the game's most common stat?

Well from the “Take me out to the Holosuit” episode I found out that a Starfleet ship had an all Vulcan crew. I had long forgotten the TOS episode where a similar thing was revealed but I assumed it was a Federation ship not Starfleet, but I was wrong.
That’s later explained, in this episode, and further revealed on ENT that the Vulcans were super racist...yeah. Starfleet just tolerates it because reasons.
I mean let's be fair - if the Vulcans abandoned their own navy when they joined the Federation, then Starfleet is their only real protection, right? Same goes for every member. I mean it stands to ask whether they still maintain a "Vulcan" navy, but let's assume they don't. So if the Vulcans are a founding member of your Alliance, and they've ceded their warships to your cause, perhaps you let them have a few with all-Vulcan crews?
Although Devil's advocate, they were Starfleet crew, which means they went to Starfleet Academy, which means they aren't a bunch of Vulcan academy researchers simply occupying a Starfleet ship. So there really shouldn't be any segregation.

This seems like an isolated innocent until ENT airs 10 years later. Here the idea that the Vulcan thought of humans as inferior is further established. Including intentionally sabotaging the warp 5 program by discouraging certain theories and encouraging others which sent humans down the wrong path for decades before they realized what the Vulcans were doing.
The impact of this is that some Vulcans began to sympathize with humans. The thinking being if we’re superior why do we need to slow their progress. Let them succeed or fail on their own. The counter argument being that humans have the potential to screw up the Galaxy. We (Vulcans) live here too. We can’t have them out here making things bad for all of us.
I think it was Soval who said humans had progressed from early upright hominids to a space faring race thousands (maybe millions) of years faster than Vulcans. They were “afraid” of what humans could accomplish given time.
I have inquired about Professor Sato DIP stat and can confirm that it is correct, she has a good base but a lower proficiency.

Well „good base“ is quite an understatement though. Shes the first all ever crew with a Base 1500+, and we have only seen 1 crew with base 1400+(Pah Wraith Keiko). So its a huge power creep jump. Not complaining though.
Keiko, Sato, Ogawa played by actresses, Sulu, Kim, Khan played by actors.
The term actor is used for both now, like server.
I detest the word "server" used in that sense. Sounds... automated... dehumanised. Also, it's etymologically closer to "servant" than "waiter" is. Small details, perhaps, but I think such things influence people's attitudes towards others more than we realise.

Keiko was Japanese. Her actress was Chinese-American.

I've always wondered what Philippa Georgiou's backstory/heritage is supposed to be. Her first name is a latinate feminine form of a male (originally) Greek name, but spelled in the English way. Her surname is Greek. She appears to be of mostly Chinese ethnicity, and was born in Malaysia. Intriguing.
Originally, her name was supposed to be Han Bo which fit with her ethnicity and command of the ship Shenzhou (the name od China’s space rocket program). Being Malaysian fits with her actual (actor) background as about 20% of the population there is ethnically Chinese.
Why they changed her name at the last minute I’m not sure as it was still listed as Han Bo on IMBD after Discovery premiered. I’ve never seen an explanation of the reason they changed the name.
I can't remember when the Han Solo movie came out in relation to the premier of Discovery, but that may have driven the change.

In the novel “Depaerare Hours”, which came out before DSC aired she is divorced from Nikos Georgiou. The novels were specifically commissioned to give back story to the characters and were vetted by the writering staff from the show.

Yeah... I’m going to agree to disagree on this as for me that’s kind of a Kunta Kinte argument. First of all, traditionally Chinese women don’t take their husbands surnames as the mass confusion around my golf club as to why my wife has a different surname than me attests. Even so, it does little to explain the change in a her given name. Malaysian Chinese (Singapore too) tend not to take “Christian” first names unlike in say Hong Kong. Again, the three Japanese characters we have had don’t have English given names. Harry Kim is the one exception but he’s Korean. Finally we get one major Chinese character after all these series and she has a Greek name even though she’s Malaysian? I find that far more cringeworthy.

My gamble surprisingly paid off and I got Keiko in one pack, and Hoshi in the other. I already maxed Hoshi and she is my highest base dip (even at 1/5). I'm going to press hard and get a second star for her through rank. I'm just glad I lifted the pressure off for this weekend.
Is it just me, or does all the artwork just look bad when converted to online here in the forums, and maybe the web in general. The in-game artwork is crisp and detailed. (On my retina screen iPad.)

Ditto... even if she her art was mutant Sato, I’d still level her and get a second star in the event. At 1/5, she is already my highest DIP, bumping out Cornwell whose DIP is her second skill. That always irked me because I have 3 or more immortal legendaries in all the other skills (except MED where there is the two mega event MEDs), even SCI and ENG...
From my perspective, the very high base number is great, but Sato is a very low event count variant. So, she's good to round out shuttle seats when you don't have enough event crew to fill them, but otherwise would she have any other use? Especially since dip is the game's most common stat?
Voyages. The communicator trait comes up a lot in the DIP seats, so she's going to bump up the time for a lot of player's voyages. (Even without the trait match of course, but an extra 25 AM never hurts!)

Your complaint is far more worthy than mine would have been, no doubt. If Prof Sato had been another weak 1/5*, that’s one more crew slot wasted on someone I don’t use and likely will never FF. Of my 55 FE legendary crew at 1/5*, 2/5*, or even 3/5*, this is how my usage breaks down:
-54 total
-2 used for shuttle missions semi-regularly
-2 used in the arena or Skirmish events
-11 routinely useful on voyages
-15 routinely useful in the Gauntlet
Some of these overlap, too, leaving only 24 of 55 partially-fused fully-equipped legendaries (not counting my 4/5* spider people - Arachnia and Barclay) even approaching regular usage. And some of those 29 worthless crew are truly beloved characters like Pointing Sisko, Gangster Kirk, Captain La Forge, or Ushaan Shran.
Adding one more to that list certainly wouldn’t make things better, hence my great feeling of relief at how stunning Sato’s 1/5* stats are.
Second, I want to echo the sentiments expressed here by my esteemed fellow captains. I went after this character with event packs because of the posted stats. Base stats mainly help with shuttles and away missions/voyages, so I dont think her high base would affect the game like a OP character would for proficency in the gauntlet or ship ability in the arena.
Llately the event characters, for me, have been a huge win.
That COM skill is high but not terribly out of the realm of reality. Yarnek when FF has 1004 base SCI and 896 base COM before starbase bonuses and a tertiary base skill about 75 points higher than Professor Sato’s. Mirror Cochrane is another example, with FF primary and secondary base skills over 1000 and a tertiary over 500.
DSC Blu-Ray will be out November 13th. I doubt they will discuss it.

Isn't that Rikers whole point in the Titan novels when selecting his crew? That segregation still exists in Starfleet without conscious effort against it? I know its novels but still...
My only knowledge of post-Nemesis Trek is Star Trek Online. Which will probably be reset when Picard's new show starts (Apparently it takes place in 2404).
