A little disappointed there is no new 4*. Hybrid events are the best for FF a new 4* crew and with both 4* as repeats there is no incentive to play other than ranking for the new 5*. That's a lot of effort for only 1 new crew.
Bit confused by admiral Janeway and recovering Spock being added as bonus technically those aren’t capt variants
Spock held the rank of Captain after The Motion Picture, though you wouldn't really know it because he doesn't command the Enterprise for very long on-screen. Recovering Spock is just the only movie Spock we have.

I would argue that Spock was declared dead by Starfleet and did not have a chance to get his records changed while the rest of the bridge crew were in hiding on Vulcan. He was clearly reinstated by the end of the film but I doubt he was considered to be a Starfleet Captain during his recovery.

There is incentive for those who haven't finished those characters, especially newer players.
I've been playing since near launch and there's several 4* and 5* characters from launch I'm still working on or don't have at all.
My 8-Point STT Strategy:
1. Voyage.
2. Have fun. If something isn't fun, don't do it.
3. Only pursue characters I care about.
4. Contribute to the fleet.
5. No more spending beyond monthly cards.
6. Have fun.
7. Voyage.
8. Have fun!

Apparently they're removing a star on the threshold 4* for a (useless) 1/5 card, I wouldn't call that a good deal for new players. Baetson will be a burden in any new player's roster while the missing star on the 4* will be quite significant.
All in all it's a bad deal but older players acclaimed the change because it lets them add a star to their useless cards they never use.

Not removing a star. The last star is in the community rewards.
Now I know this might be ridiculous, but I have to say it... What about Captain Proton?
It is ridiculous. He's not a Starfleet captain in command of a Starfleet vessel. He's playing a game with a fake spaceship.
You're playing a game with a fake ship.
I would like to point out that he does have the Starfleet trait. I don't actually expect him to be included. My friends call me a rules lawyer, so sometimes I embrace the title in the name of humor.

AFAIK there were only 3 stars for disguised Tuvok with the community rewards and the threshold.
For future purposes, wouldn't it be easier to give all these characters a Captain trait for easier referencing and searching?
Captain and Starfleet would seem to be pretty simple.
There appear to be some traits behind the scenes, not used overtly in game:
For example, Romulan Picard
romulan, federation, costumed, starfleet, human, undercover_operative, investigator, male, organic, tng, captain, bridge_crew, picard, crew_max_rarity_5,
Another 5* Data? Not complaining but Data is getting a lot of love.
Agreed!
Admiral of the Haus of GaghGagh, Starbase level 94, we are not accepting members at this time.
Captain of the voyage vessels: Queen of Bashir, Landsknecht, and Sunspear, the first luxury starship cruiseliners.
Amenities include wifi, fully-functioning holodecks, a full-service bar, 3 party decks, a Trill spa, and a business centre.
Fun fact: The ships are propelled by bouncy castle technology.
It's DB's game, but I would adjust the bonus list slightly. I did a full post about this in speculation, but a few that stand out right now:
Admiral Janeway -- not a Captain, should be removed.
Mirror Janeway -- not a Starfleet Captain, should be removed.
Mirror Picard -- a Starfleet Captain, should be added.
Galen (Picard) -- a Starfleet Captain under cover, should be added.
Captain Killy -- a Starfleet Captain, should be added.
Good job in not listing Admiral Kirk, Admiral Picard, or Emperor Georgiou -- they are not Captains.
...but Admiral Kirk is from WOK when he captained the Enterprise...
The Captain of the Enterprise, which was a training vessel at the time, was Spock. If you remember when in the movie Kirk assumed that pose, holding his copy of Tale of Two Cites, it was before he took command of the Enterprise (as it went on active duty) to respond to the distress call from Regula One. Even then I'd argue he was an Admiral, not a Captain, but you'd have a valid counter-argument, too.
Agreed, but did he forget how to be a captain during all of that time behind a desk? i suppose that is kind of what the movie is all about!
...and does anyone else kinda sorta want a Captain Chekov too?

The wiki only lists 2 Tuvoks in the threshold rewards for the Family Tree rerun event (https://stt.wiki/wiki/Family_Tree_2), but it also only has 2 listed in the original event (https://stt.wiki/wiki/Family_Tree). Were only 2 4* included in the thresholds back then? Or is it an error in the wiki? I didn't have Disguised Tuvok before the event but now have him FF - I don't remember getting another copy outside of the event, but it's possible.
The previous rerun that included the old 5* in the thresholds was Isthmian Games (https://stt.wiki/wiki/The_Isthmian_Games_2), which did include 3 copies of the 4* (Prospero Data) in the threshold in addition to 5* Dancing Uhura.

I feel like there were definitely three copies of Tuvok. It seemed to me at the time they simply added another threshold level.

OK that's possible, I barely played family tree, we will see. If we're getting 3 copies + 1 from the community rewards then that's perfect, I'll just need to airlock Bateson and never think about him again!

No joke. I’m about to pitch him out the airlock he’s just wasting a crew slot and not sure I want to use 9k honor on him.

Who am I kidding, its probably going to be Rifle Janeway again.
But a guy can dream...
Yea, but if it uses the same missions as before, there are only a small handful of MED slots anyways:

Was the Emergency Command Hologram a temporary Captain?
/edit
I guess "acting captain" is a better term, and would not apply for this event.
