I hit over 350K yesterday afternoon while keeping my boost usage to a minimum. At that point I was falling behind in the standings, so I used some 3* Speed Boosts. Scoring ~50K VP with 3 hour shuttles isn't much of a stretch but the new stuff means scoring 400K VP isn't enough for top 1000 anymore. I managed to hang onto a top 1K finish. I used 36-40 3* Speed Boosts and a lot of 3* Skill boosts.
I still have all of my rentals, reward boosts and a lot of 4/5* Boosts for a future event.
. While FTP can compete they are always going to be at a disadvantage to those pumping cash into the game.

and when you eventually do well despite of that, you get this 'sense of pride and accomplishment', but for realsies.
That said, I can only imagine how terrifying it must feel if you've just started playing. I was only something like 3 or 4 months behind the early adopters and beta players, and it still took almost a year to catch up. Now? almost 3 years since the game went live? yikes.
I can only answer part of this skirmishes is a doddle I can hit all thresholds in an evening while binging a movie or series or whatever, you can do it on your terms at any time over the entire weekend.
that was the case with the old thresholds. DB said they are in the process of updating threshold rewards for all of the events and since it is taking some time they are likely going to use different VP amounts for different events. So prepare yourselves for a surprize.

One interesting (and perhaps unintended?) consequence of having the l repeat legendary as a threshold reward so high in the standings is that most of use who “won” Troi and also finished in top 1k got Troi as the $25 “buy a second copy” offer, but not the new Spock. (I think you can only get that offer once every 24 hours?). This undoubtedly cut into the $ DB would have made from those who wanted to buy a second copy of Spock.

yeah, you need to play that cooldown timer bro! (dont claim the Spock untill it's run out)

I got Troi with 3 hours remaining.
Time to stockpile my boosts until the next faction event!
Plus I immortalised Kirk pretty damn quickly. So I'm back to 99/100 crew slots, with the space sitting for the new purple next week. If I can rank top 2500, I can also immortalise Tourist Quark too, freeing up another slot.
I'm really quite enjoying myself 😀

That Troi is such a pita to level, I run out of holos at lvl40, then at lvl50 i was out of my replicator runs :DD
I'm personally hoping they have a crew slot sale during the holidays so im immortalising grey dupes to get some dill ;D wink wink

I got her to L80... Before my stockpiles ran dry. I'll just slowly replicate stuff until she's FE.
Just for lolz, I looked at where I placed the last time this event ran: I came 29500ish, and I put in 100% then too!
How times have changed. 1250 seemed like a pipe dream back then!

yup, thats some progress you've made. soon you're in a position you can pick and choose when ever you want to finish in top1k or not.
btw, you have more immortal golds than I do :DD

Indeed. I've saved for a crew slot sale, but if they do as last year, it will be just before Christmas. It would help more if it were before the expedition.
It's not so much about increased competition or incentives to spend money, it's that it makes things more difficult without adding anything new to the game. If they added some new ranked rewards or a new threshold reward at 400k to entice people to keep playing and spend more money, most people would be fine with it.
Fair definition of whale = VIP14+. Though I'd say it's possible to get halfway there over time with a very modest amount of weekly spending not much different than what one might spend IRL on reasonably priced forms of entertainment. Cumulatively, yes, it's way more than the calibration for game costs I grew up with, but we're in a different era, for better or worse, and I tend to judge now by $ per hour of entertainment (heck, I live in a city where one drink in a bar is going to set me back $10-$15, thank goodness I don't do bars much anymore).
This fits how i got to vip 14 & definitely don't see myself as a whale. Dolphin maybe, but I'm mostly monthly, always have been. Never bought an event offer over $10. Been playing since launch.
Having played as strictly VIP 0 my first full year, I made my peace with upper level rewards being out of my reach long ago. My attitude about such high-end rewards has remained the same: other players must want them a lot more than I do. I prefer the certainty of thresholds over the guessing of a rank tier finish, so having the rerun 5* there rather than in the rank table was what appealed to me most about this recent change.
I don't mind having to work a little harder for the rerun 5* than 100-150k. 400k, though, requires a nearly obsessive level of commitment and/or splurging on resources beyond what is comfortable for my limited budget. I don't find it insulting or even demoralizing so much as I just find it irrelevant. 400k may as well be 400 billion; I'm not getting close enough to it for it to matter to me.
Whether DB chooses to say, "Well, you said yourself you didn't want it all that much, so this just isn't for you" or "Hmm, we want to preserve the challenge but make the rerun 5* attainable enough for you that we'd like to keep you engaged by bringing the threshold down some" is up to them. I get it if they shrug me off with the former, but I'd certainly appreciate if they would decide the latter.
The level of denial in this thread is beyond the scales.
There are things in life money can't buy.
Don't tell DB what it is because they not only will put a price on it but also will make a sale and some people will feel glad for "saving" money buying it.

I have been looking for words to adequately describe how I feel, and this comes pretty close.
I did try for Spock & Troi, but the amount of work it took to get Troi wasn't worth it for a 2nd star, and I didn't get Spock anyway. I've enjoyed the gradual increase in ease that came from building my crew. I still had to log in frequently and pay attention to my crew, but the days of guaranteed top 1000 for me in faction events are gone. I just needed to admit that to myself because I haven't been meeting my goals lately, and it's been frustrating me, making the game less fun. These last two shuttle weekends have proven to me that I just don't have it in me to do more than collect threshold 4* rewards most of the time even though that's maybe a little less exciting.
It took me ages to start getting top 1k in faction events, I can do it whenever I want in most others. I did have to pick and choose, but it was eminently feasible.
After the last 2, I'm not getting even close. It's not as if I don't have the resources, I just literally don't have the time. Before, I could do a solid run and go hard on either sat/sun and squeak in. Now it appears as if I have to do that for 3 or 4 days straight. Lol, sorry, no, I kind of have a life outside Timelines.
I liked the idea of extended thresholds, but now I'm thinking I've got myself a bit of honor, a voyage renew token, and maybe a portal pull in place of the legendary.
I've only ever finished top 1K in galaxy and skirmish... And that took a lot of time and resources. As for faction, I don't have the crew nor the dilithium nor the boost power to hit top 1K.
Then again, if hitting rank was easy, I'd probably get bored! For me, part of the fun is trying to beat others who as aren't VIP0... And then feeling smug about it afterwards.
Just cos I'm mean spirited and spiteful 😉

Not sure where to post this as there are few Threshold threads. I can only speak from my experience with the re-run event. I did clear the 400k which was my goal. I hit that mark about a half hour before the event ended. Sunday for me was the grind day. I started off that morning around 200k. I used a lot of 1 hour shuttle boost that I had saved. Basically with out them, I am not sure I would have wound up where I did. I did purchase one boost pack, the 10x tokens and 10x reward and used some, not all of them
I felt like every hour on Sunday I was on my phone re-sending shuttles. There was a point where I used the 2x rewards and sent shuttles for the 3 hour because there were things I was wanting to do that required me not to have timely access to my device. That's when I bought the pack. Though upon returning home and up till bedtime it was the back to the hour grind. Sunday overall felt very intense.
Looking back, I can see where time management and different uses of resources may have saved me a day of grinding. I will try to implement it next time around providing going forward 400k is the new threshold. That being said I also don't want to use as many boost or spend as much time as I did this time around and I won't, even it means not hitting the threshold mark. For me, and I can only speak from my game play, I feel like I spent more time and resources on the event than I have events prior taking away the causal style I enjoy. With Galaxy and Skirmish I can play and devote the time I want to in short or long periods.
