In all seriousness, when this is over (not before), I'm going to make sure my family has at least a month's worth of supplies. We had that before this happened because we had just done some major shopping (good timing, I suppose) and we buy a month of supplies at a time. But if this had hit a week earlier, we would be less amused by the "toilet paper shenanigans." I seriously believe that we should all (slowly and not at the same time) build up a small reserve so that when issues come up again, we will.have enough for our families and some to help our neighbors.
You’re absolutely right. Not to go totally “doomsday prepper,” but most of us (myself included) could do better with preparing for times of uncertainty. Just having a supply of shelf-stable food and basic survival equipment is not only useful in emergencies, but also helps prevent chaotic rushes on supplies that contribute to social panic.

They are considering adding emergency funds to SNAP benefits, to help people prepare for COVID-19. But, no action being taken right now, because the agency is shut down for COVID-19...............

A lot of small shops here have started doing home deliveries too, without the need for online portals. The online portals are still functioning but on the big ones deliveries are very slow (for some chains it takes one month). Smaller online businesses have smaller delayes, mainly due to the fact that carriers are overwhelmed with requests, but they still deliver within 6-10 days. The only problem is that none of them has any toilet paper left and there are no small shops selling it with home deliveries in my area

I agree. This is just an assumption, but I think that a lot of what was perceived as stockpiling might have been due to people who usually do a lot of small purchases 3 or 4 times a week, who were suddenly buying supplies for two weeks all at once.
I've done puzzles with my family from time to time. Whoever made this one was sadistic. 500 pieces, all almost the same. A good quarter of them are all brown.

1} Tuna Fish. Get cans of tuna, PACKED IN WATER. The cans are compact and stackable. After you eat the tuna, drink the water to wash it down, and help stay hydrated. If nothing else, buy ten or so cans at a time to stock up.
2} Water Jugs. Wal 🌟 Mart and most places should have the collapsible five gallon water jugs. Get some and keep them loaded with FRESH water.
3} Dry Beans. Can be stored long-term, and can be cooked in a Crock-Pot.
4} Ready To Eat Food. If you do not like it or cannot eat tuna, or you want something else that does not need to be prepared, get something else that is ready to eat. Canned beans, for example. They are already cooked, and can be eaten cold.
IMPORTANT: Dates. Make sure that supplies are sorted, with oldest dates first to be used. Once you have supplies deeper, you can eat the oldest items before they go out of date.

Another thing on dates. Canned food is dated on the bottom of the cans in small print. Take a Sharpie and clearly write the dates on the labels. Make sure dates are facing the front of the cabinet, and FIFO is easy.

We all have stories like this, like I totally understand how annoying running out of TP is for instance.

I have a stockpile of that stuff but I also bought a lot of Caesar and kibble just in case. My boys are prolly better stocked than I am. There are a few more exceptions, but it's difficult to translate, and probably many of them can work from home (like some administrative workers), but basically you get the idea.
