The bonus rewards seem kinda meh. Not worth spending Dil on, unless your ship took a pounding and you need to repair your hull I won't be re rolling. I might need to dust off the wiki to see which crew repair Hull
Hull repair crew and boarding crew will be used to the exclusion of everyone else. I like the optimism from the video that skirmishes will be about finding new crew combinations but unless there is a huge hull bonus for event crew, it will be pretty boring when everyone has the same crew selected (see also: Commander Division in the arena.

But don't forget that bonus crew will also give extra VP. So we'll have to choose between "ideal crew for the battle", and "weaker crew with bigger reward".
Also, why boarding crew? We just want whoever kills the other ship faster.

Ensign Ogawa is a 1* with a 35% hull repair ability, reusable every 16s. There are four 4* and one 5* with 20% hull repair.

@Shan I've shown the new Skirmishes to our fleet and asked for their input before responding.
Positive reviews 0
Negative reviews everyone who responded, basic thread is there are so many in game issues that need to be addressed 1st why add another type of event that will add further flaws into the game.
Duplicate artwork, improper missions listed for items, the ability to see the names of items you want to feed to the replicator. Etc...
New Episodes woukd be a better use of resources, and redcing events from 4 days to 3 or 2 days would be more worthwhile to stop player burnout.

So a bunch of people don't like something they haven't had a chance to use yet?
At least reserve judgement until you've had a crack at it. I'm not optimistic, but at least wait until you are using it.
I, and many of my fleetmates, are very optimistic and welcome the new event type. It has already breathed new life into our game discussions as we strategize. The current galaxy or faction every week has become a drain. I am willing to deal with a few in game glitches that, while bothersome in some cases, dont make the game feel like a weekly job. Could there be issues with the new release and event type? Yes, I expect there to be. Give DB a chance to work through them and reserve judgement on the new event type until you give it a chance.
DId you guys notice the ship explosions (I noticed it particularly on the Borg cube) look quite different in that video?
I'm wondering if those enhanced FX will make their way to Arena eventually, as well.
I liked the new animations.
I think it will be interesting to see different crew give different types of bonus, and a big challenge to work out how those crew work on ships we may not always use. I'm so used to flying the Bounty and the Warbird I don't actually know much about how to operate other ships, and I generally don't have a great deal of variety in opposition either, so it's going to be a real steep learning curve I reckon. Could go well, could be enormously frustrating. Either way, at least it's a change.

Yep. I'm not going to haul out the pitchforks if things go wrong. Letting DB know what's good and what's frustrating, and what simply doesn't work, should be enough. Except for really new players, we're all in the same boat for a change (except the ship obsessives who will have a distinct advantage for all the dil they have already spent!) because none of us know how it's going to work or how to game it to our advantage.
I dunno. We'll see. I'm leery about the arena expedition, and concerned about the galaxy currency. I also wonder how much the special ship will contribute to total VP, but if exclusive ships get used too often that will be terrible for competition. With no 1* or 3* ships in my roster, and a scarce amount of 2*, this could be a slaughter.
I do see three necessities here though.
1) There better be at least two more event types on the horizon, just this won't be adding enough variety to keep the game interesting, and is likely to add a week of frustration and non-participation every every 3 weeks.
2) The Cryo Vault better be getting a fix too. What a PITA to go to the vault to find my crew, then go to the wiki to see what their ship skill is.
3) Crew selection for ships needs to be fixed. Crew aren't sorted and it's nigh impossible to click through every single crewman to see if they fit. And traits, required for bonus VP, are not displayed in the bridge crew selection screen.
The rest, well, I guess it's just wait and see and hope it makes arena playable again
Cross-posting from the thread about the upcoming event:
Trying to understand how the bonuses work for the ships and crew in this type of event. Will a bonus-supported USS Defiant be better than a Borg Cube or HMS Bounty, for example? When a crew member gets a bonus, does this multiply his/her underlying equipment stats (for accuracy, crit bonus, crit rating, and evasion) by a certain amount? And/or does it multiply his/her special ability (like "boosts attack by 6") by a certain amount? For example, my Mirror Sisko boosts attack by 7 -- will this be multiplied? If so, by how much? If not, I might still rather use my Assimilated Janeway which boosts attack by 10.
I’m guessing it’s like the Gorntlet instead of 3 wins for loot it’s 5 with minor tweaks. I’d rather take out an op Borg cube using all my current ships than 5 random ship battles like arena Gorntlet style. Low expectations so I won’t be underwhelmed when we know more
I have no issues if this one goes completely sideways, crashes and dies 6 hours in..
We all know it's the prototype run for this event type so I've got no real issues if something screws up in here verses when things go wrong in a galaxy or in a faction or in a hybrid or other things that they do week in week out if there's ever a time for there to be a screw-up and excuse it this is it
I also have faith that with DB knowing that this is a prototype run on a very Grand scale that if this does go to complete garbage that they're going to make it right for everybody and that's not just with the five star Bashier.
So DB I'm great with a prototype I'm great with a brand new type of event it's about time it's about a year overdue but have a contingency plan if things go wrong. I hope it goes smooth..
But always plan for the worst and hope for the best.

The more I think about this new event, the more I'm intrigued. As noted above, it might crash badly, or it might run fine but be trashed in the post-mortem. We'll see.
BUT... I really hope DB clarifies the point values and bonus effects and etc in advance of the event. I'm fine with that being part of the event announcement at T -24hrs. Not the complete math obviously - that seems to be the player's job to work out. But how about just spelling out the point escalations between normal/elite/epic? Or answering the much-posed question - will a 4* bonus ship be at all comparable to a 5* ship? Just helps everyone with deciding how they want to try to approach the event.

If you want to cut back event frequency okay (maybe), but the 2 day event would have to fall on Saturday / Sunday. IF you have an active family life (pack up the SUV then take the wife & kiddos to the beach on Saturday at 10:30) Shuttle kick-start? No way, i personally couldn't do it. Birthday parties, family members team sporting events - Saturday & Sundays are probably my worst two days to focus on the game (i bet, i'm not the only one), i do my very best every weekend just to stay in it and not let my fleet-mates down.
Also, the recent statement from Erin - Events are enjoying their greatest success, so i doubt they are going make any drastic cuts like that.
As for Skirmishes i'll try them with an open mind.
@Grimreaper is one cool cat I've always enjoyed playing with you Amigo.

I don't know why so many people hated The Christmas expedition, I was a new player then and I ranked around 2000 and got 3* Mirror Mayweather.
He is still incredibly strong with security and ENG.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my Mirror Mayweather and that I was able to get extra I.S.S. Defiant schematics...but the Christmas Expedition was pretty awful to have to go through. The only reason I did well enough to get rewards is because I had trouble sleeping that night and was able to power through all the extra tickets they handed out. I think I finally put my phone down at 3:30 a.m. when I finished getting the extra VP rewards on my last ticket - something that most people could not take advantage of because of spending time with family.

Getting crew you like is always nice, but the time needed for crew that event was awful. The extra tickets meant I had to spend an evening sitting and clicking.
My brother is a Star Trek fan and saw me playing. If DB wants to grow it's user base, having players pitch the game to friends/family is the best way to do it. But after playing so much that I wanted to claw my eyes out, do you think I told my brother to download the game or to stay far away?

I did quite well that event (top-1000) and didn't find that I spent a lot of time on it. As with all expeditions, once I figure out my crew rotation, I can burn through each ticket in about 10-15 minutes, getting a max bonus on every rare reward. There was one expedition where I remember doing my last ticket while in line to board my flight at the airport. Getting 3 extra tickets means less than an hour's worth of gameplay, which I don't think is too bad, as I was able to do that after my kids went to bed.
Yes, the first run through is time intensive, as you strategize your crew rotation through 15 missions. However, I think that is the most enjoyable part of any event we've had on STT - actual strategizing with your entire crew, bonus and otherwise, to maximize the rewards while minimizing the number or re-runs for each mission.
@Shan you said that bonus traits don't stack across crew and we would only receive the highest bonus at the end. Is there a way to see what our bonus is when selecting crew? Between high bonus and low bonus and then traits on top of that, how can we tell if using a high bonus with no traits is better than a low bonus matching both traits? Also, if the bonus doesn't stack for multiple crew, then what reason do we have to use a second bonus crew? Once we get the highest bonus, it would seem that we're better off picking the best crew and ignoring bonus for other crew. Thanks.
The only ones who are going to be able to battle at the *1 and *2 ship level are those with a supply of cadets mainly new players.
The rest of us have most cadets frozen.
Are only choices will be the *3 and *4 or the *5.
Did they say the levels would work like arena for crew and I missed it? Regular ship battles don’t have a rarity cap on crew vs ship type. Guess I figured it would work like that.

I use the good ensign every day.
I noticed! They were welcome improvements over the current animations.
Am I the only one who observed that some of the enemy ships had different abilities to the versions we see in arena, e.g. Borg cube with boarding?

also, Re-Roll: honestly, 1000 credits for 50 dilithium? it's like they don't even understand their own conversion rates.

Will crew on shuttles/voyages be unavailable to use, or will they also be an option like they are in ship battles & arena?
