I'm finding the timing kinda funny.... I mean it's the players choice theme with the experimental event. Like if we don't like the Mega, it's our fault for picking the theme, yano? Or maybe its the only way they think folks would buy into playing the new type?

My take is that it's in the mega to entice players to try it out. There will be a low-threshold 5* card to be had, so players will play even if they abhor space battles. They might bail after the 25K vp level, but at least they'll have tried the new style, and DB gets more user data to analyze. If it were a stand-alone event, I'd guess that thousands of players would just say "nope" and never even attempt it.
In defense of "hero-gen", to learn how to properly pronounce that you would have had to watch Voyager through to the later episodes...which I know many people (including myself) struggled to do.

I personally see the farming of the new currency as ok because I already try to run as many ship battles as possible when leveling crew for the starbase components. Doesn't seem as much of a chron dump as galaxy.
Having to sit through all the ship battle animations does seem like it will be a time dump though. However, ship battles do give the sense that I have some control over the outcome rather than just plain DBRNG.
All in all i'm on the fence and will reserve final judgement for after testing it out.

Make no mistake, there is tons of RNG in ship battles with critical hits. Sometimes I win easy, sometimes I cannot hit and lose versus same crew. The RNG is there, pushing skill buttons is only an illusion you have some control over the outcome.
If DB was a company with integrity, I'd be happy to see something new. However, what we will get is a buggy mess that exploits the players gambling addiction to the max possible to sqeeze every last drop of money they can get out.
The game has become a Skinner's box, I'd be surprised if we get a game mode designed for fun and not around addiction. Every button you click is designed by some phycologist to get you to spend more money.

Nice rat... good rat... push the button... have a food pellet... or maybe an electric shock...

I believe it's called researching something that's part of your job. I imagine if a mathematician started talking about circumference and pronouncing it like interference, his listeners may begin to question his competence or knowledge on the subject. Maybe rehearse the presentation before some other folks in the office, who hopefully have watched The Killing Game, since we have so many characters from it in game, if you've not watched the show yourself.
Trekkers are a hard audience to step up to, you've got to have it together before talking before a group of them.

In fairness, even though it wasn't part of that specific ballot, we have collectively been clamoring for a new event type, and specifically something to do with ships, for quite awhile now. This isn't something we haven't asked for being pushed on us.

Fair points, however, it's at best a beta being put in at the beginning of the voted on event.
Mary Poppins would find this the inverse of a sweetened distribution of beneficial liquids.
I don't understand why so many are liking this to a galaxy, when it was clearly built right on the Expedition Event framework. It does look interesting, and the fact you don't have to tap-tap-tap your screen & fingers to death (galaxy) makes it one more thing to like about it.
Rewards are garbage and absolutely not worth Dils. Obviously the veteran players will be having the highest advantage in this new event.
I would have liked to seen this as a hybrid with Expedition though so you have a complete mission "schematic" to follow from beginning to end. Although, I guess that would just be another Episode then right? LOL

The part people are equating to being like galaxy is the need to farm a component in order to play. Not the event gameplay overall.

The way I understand it, the farming is very different than galaxies. First, intel accrues over time, so you don't have to farm it at all. But if you do farm, intel drops are in addition to other drops, so you can still level crew while farming intel.

Since it goes away after the event and doesn’t carry over I guess I’m assuming it must be farmed during the event only.

In the video they said you could purchase intel using dilithium. So there's actually no requirement to farm at all. They didn't seem to give info on how much an intel costs in dilithium, however.
My only concern is if they roll this out during a Mega Event. We may end up with a lot of complaints from people who normally achieve the VP needed for the recurring character but don't for that week because this is a new event type. It may overshadow all the good things about the new event type.

There's that risk, yes, but that threshold is usually relatively low. Hope if things go sideways, they at least don't go that crazy.

That just makes the question whether you want to spend chrons or dilithium for intel.

Yes, would give the player the flexibility to play the event more like an expedition, or more like a galaxy event, depending on the players preference.
It doesn't look any different than arena except you have to endure multiple ships. From the video the rewards look ridiculous and not worth playing. Good work DB you made a new thing a flop from the start no nerf needed.

Intel accrues over time, but it also drops from ship battles. So it is like a galaxy in that it will be a chroniton dump if you want to rank high.
It will be nice to know if there is an intel cap, so that we know if we can play in our own time, or have to play on a forced schedule like faction events.

I do love optimism, thanks for your input.
The rewards are something we don't get in other events, DB are giving us extras and people complain.
Ok, rewatched..
Looks like one per battle which is nice..
But seriously, if they expect us to pop dilithium for something that may spit 1000 credits as a reward they're going to be pretty disappointed.
I mean.. i know my vip level affects how much I would receive if I did this, but buying credits for Dil in the main interface gives 33,000 for 10 Dil
It should be at least.. 20,000 if that's the weakest prize. (I'm taking strictly about Dil extra rolls, but the free one. Free is free . 1 credit, 1,000,000 put what you want but when paying there must be substance)
Of course we don’t know if the stuff in the video is final either or mock up stuff for testing purposes. The actual rewards table may or may not have been in use.
@Shan I've shown the new Skirmishes to our fleet and asked for their input before responding.

Negative reviews everyone who responded, basic thread is there are so many in game issues that need to be addressed 1st why add another type of event that will add further flaws into the game.
Duplicate artwork, improper missions listed for items, the ability to see the names of items you want to feed to the replicator. Etc...
New Episodes woukd be a better use of resources, and redcing events from 4 days to 3 or 2 days would be more worthwhile to stop player burnout.

I look at it like holoemitters that only drop during the event, in addition to accruing over time during the event.
In reality, the "need" for farming will depend on your goals and what everyone else does, but I don't see it stunting growth like galaxies anyway.
That just makes the question whether you want to spend chrons or dilithium for intel.

Is there a free one after each battle , each skirmish it once per phase ?
I have to teach rewatch the video, only saw it once but my initial impression was no not then one free per skirmish. (Could be very wrong)
The big question is the main threshold and rank reward tables.. that's the meat that matters.
Hell, I'm hopeful that it'll be a percentage based system like the Battle arena. It won't be.. but I'm still hoping.
