The only ones who are going to be able to battle at the *1 and *2 ship level are those with a supply of cadets mainly new players.
The rest of us have most cadets frozen.
Are only choices will be the *3 and *4 or the *5.
Did they say the levels would work like arena for crew and I missed it? Regular ship battles don’t have a rarity cap on crew vs ship type. Guess I figured it would work like that.
The video said ships would be limited, but all crew would be unlocked. So theoretically you can use a 5* with a 1* ship on normal.
I personally see the farming of the new currency as ok because I already try to run as many ship battles as possible when leveling crew for the starbase components. Doesn't seem as much of a chron dump as galaxy.
Having to sit through all the ship battle animations does seem like it will be a time dump though. However, ship battles do give the sense that I have some control over the outcome rather than just plain DBRNG.
All in all i'm on the fence and will reserve final judgement for after testing it out.
Make no mistake, there is tons of RNG in ship battles with critical hits. Sometimes I win easy, sometimes I cannot hit and lose versus same crew. The RNG is there, pushing skill buttons is only an illusion you have some control over the outcome.
If DB was a company with integrity, I'd be happy to see something new. However, what we will get is a buggy mess that exploits the players gambling addiction to the max possible to sqeeze every last drop of money they can get out.
The game has become a Skinner's box, I'd be surprised if we get a game mode designed for fun and not around addiction. Every button you click is designed by some phycologist to get you to spend more money.
Maybe I should have put more emphasis on the "Gives me the sense" part. I know there is DBRNG all over it.

Nope they did not. And I think I am wrong now. I think augment Bashir was used at low level.

Indeed, 5* Mirror Bashir was used on the 2* Hirogen Hunter space wessel in the blog video.
Also, I noticed that the narrator (Ryan?) chose between Normal, Elite and Epic at the beginning of the Skirmish, then proceeded to fight each ship battle from left to right on the UI. To me, this means that using the Expedition strategy of working backwards from Epic-5 to Normal-1 will not be possible. LLAP

So... "just in case of bugs you don't get that level 8 of ISS Defiant because it would actually make it useful".
Veeeery funny DB, veeeery funny... NOT.
Agreed. I missed out on being able to get enough schematics to finish level 10 by falling out of the top 1% one too many times but if I hadn’t screwed that up the early end date would have taken that away from me anyway.

I didn't paid for Defiant schematics so for me it's pure drop. I have fallen out of 1% exactly twice (which don't affect completion). And I am exactly 2 prizes short of LV8 (first level where 5* ship actually gives trait bonus on Voyage over non-trait LV10). Waaaay to make month of effort useless.

I took the stupid deal back when it was offered and only got 150 extra Defiant schematics out of it...I did grind real hard on the event to hit the extra threshold rewards, though. Regardless of which level, I doubt we’re the only two who just wasted a month’s worth of arena battles.
I think in the video it shows the presenter riding one ship through 5 consecutive battles with the same ship. You can choose which level you want Normal, elite or epic and you can see which 5 ships are in your skirmish run. Your shields are restored but your hull carries over from battle to battle.
You can choose your crew, some give basic bonus and some bring extra bonus. I think regular (arena) bonus is crew vs ship dependant. For example, which trait like CMD the ship and crew have to match up or repairing hull and shields.
Bonus applies to VP earned during skirmishes and what can they do between skirmishes. You want at least one bonus crew and hopefully someone who can replenish hull. Between skirmishes you get lost boxes and can buy extra loot boxes or you can replenish your hull abit. I think bonus crew apply benefits here.
I only watched the video once but a lot of the questions are answered inside. Please watch and correct me if I made any mistakes. As I said, I only watched it once.
I love the fact that crew selection still doesn't show traits, crew aren't sortable and sort differently between slots, and active crew overlaps crew you're selecting, making crew selection for arena skirmishes moronically painful.

I think I heard trait button in the video.
I did not see a trait button. Other than they have bonus written over them, this will be the same old problem when you have a lot of crew.

Great Q above, I wish!
PM for details.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

That opens up so many meta comments about this event and DB, I don't quite know which one to pick...
