Yeah, I'll reserve judgement until after I see how DB handles the situation. I don't envy them, even if it was by their own doing. This is gonna be a tough nut to crack.
screenshot and claims making the rounds of players making 200k+ dil from this. Don't know how they can fix things without a rollback. Shame, my voyage just dropped the last Romulan I needed to finish the collection.
some players had access to a pack that cost 650 dil, but awarded 1000 dil for every purchase. they got free dilithium.
And the packs were in effect free too. Crew, honor...give everyone 10-20 free packs now. I need honor to citation some golds for my collections.
Why should i be disadvantaged by DB buggy packs. I'm vip 14. It's not like i haven't spent $$.
DB has just hugely devalued my money spent if they do nothing. And it's a sour taste.
There was no crew in those packs, just dilithium and vip points.
Thank you for letting me know! Slightly less sour now, lol.
It's still the single biggest error in the game's history. This is no joke. They need to have a legit reponse to this the likes of which we have never seen.
Shan - can you provide some sort of update as to what's going on here? If nothing more than a treep top view of how/when this will be addressed. We need some sort of direction here, even if you can't get too deep in the weeds on details.
Since Dilithium is directly purchased with real-world money, I would hope anyone who mashed the button dozens or hundreds of times gets their account closed. It's theft, pure and simple, and there's no way to claim pushing it 46 times was verifying a bug.
I feel like both DB and the playerbase will have to take a hit on this. I can't imagine them taking back the illicit dilithium, and I also can't imagine them giving TOO much out to the players who missed out on Kasidy's smuggled goods. Really interested to see where they go with this. Is, say, 2000 dilithium and 15-30 packs too much compensation by DB's outlook? Would it even satiate players? Who knows.

Problem with that is then DB loses a decent chunk of the userbase. That would not be appealing to their investors either.

Dilithium is obtainable multiple ways without spending real money... this is an over-reaction to end all over-reactions
They are to some extent able to check who bought packs though. There was an issue a couple of months ago with a pack not dropping the guaranteed crew, they issued a certain number of free packs to everyone who had bought them. I got free packs because I had bought some, my OH did not.
Now I will not say this ruined the game for everyone because I think we need to be fair and let DB come up with a solution. Lets give Shan and DB time to correct and then depending on result I feel the community has a right to file tickets and bring up concerns if people are worried.
I completely agree with this. While it can be fun to poke the bear (and I admit I've done that a little bit in this thread), until we know what they are going to do, there is no point in worrying.
The most likely result is they will simply remove the dilithium from the accounts that got it. That's why I didn't spend a single penny of it. Then the people who didn't get a chance to get the pack aren't harmed in any way and DB won't be expected to provide any kind of compensation.
I've no idea how the DB office is set up but I imagine Shan leaping up from her desk, running at high speed towards the programmer type people screaming 'take the pack down, take the pack DOWN!' before leaping over several desks and pressing some big red button that magically removes all the packs.
Shan doesn't work at the HQ, she has a home office.

I agree that the idea of banning seems like an overreaction. That being said you are correct that Dilithium is obtainable in a lot of different ways without spending money but not in the levels we are talking about.

Agreed. But, out of an abundance of caution, I'm not doing one single thing in-game, until we see how this shakes out. If there's a forced reset, we could lose all progress and resources spent. STT, itself, just went to cryo until we know how this goes down.
Remember awhile back, when the regular Premium Time Portal was bugged (missing a lot of crew), so they ended up giving away a bunch of portal pulls to people based on how many they bought on particular days? THAT I was upset about. I was all set to buy a Premium Portal offer that Monday, but I got Starry Skies instead... so I missed out on the packs I wanted to buy, AND 10 to 15 free Premium Portals.
I don't know what to think of this mess, though. If what I'm hearing is true, and some people have gotten tens of thousands of free dil, I might just expect a server rollback, if they can do that.

Right but a couple of achievements and a couple of collections and you've got enough to get 650, and once you've got 650 you could now have 100k with this bug... Closing accounts just doesn't make sense

Without knowing how they handle it how can anyone say.
I would like to ask you the same question.
Does not bode well for transparency. Though, that’s not something we should not expect from DB - case in point the shuttle bug.
Yes, handling issues is the key. Isn't it?
Totally agree
No need for another thread, merging.
DB's compensation has to start with a 5/5 Kira + 100k dil for everyone who did not purchase a pack.

May I ask you why merged thread eneded up in Engineering section? Don't you think it deserves The Bridge section?
I don't think any bug they've ever had was worse. Hence my question to the OP there...

Its DB's method of damage control. Make sure the threads get buried in a sub forum so that the regular forum readers don't know about the issue.
Plain and simple.
It's a bug. The Engineering Room is where bugs are posted.
