Thing is, I can understand tailoring the VP level to match the value of the card, I'm just not seeing how they got to 400k for this Troi.
Who is the 400k targeting? Whales will already have her FF more than likely, those of us in higher VIPs could put in the effort if we feel she's worth it.
Those of us who could hit it with effort? Just an attempt to drain resources, which means pick and choose which reruns to engage in, which seems perverse when part of the aim is to engage players.
Those who could most benefit from a new 5* won't reach it without reaching for the wallet.
So, yes, looks like a money grab to me. Which I don't especially mind, but the sudden jump to that is jarring, which I do mind. Why don't they just extend the rewards and communicate that they know not everyone will hit them all, they're not meant to.
Have to say the last couple of months have reduced my desire to play, and my desire to pay for content is even lower than the times I've closed my wallet.
Still going to enjoy playing, but a whole lot more casually than before, and when I stop enjoying I'll sadly wave goodbye to the fleet I'm in and the game.
Trying to equip and level up Apollo and Kirk has completely killed what little hope/happiness I had managed to restore since this afternoon. I see no reason to even try on this event. I paid money to buy packs for this event to try and enjoy it, and then they need so many ancient films, science experiments, etc that I cannot get them above level 50 before the event starts. I mean seriously, what is the point?! By the time I get either of them up to 100 the event will be half over. And of course none of the items needed are available from either of the factions featured in this event! I see no reason to participate, and if I'm not participating in this event, what is the point of any of this? I gave myself permission to stop playing this game this afternoon; I was expecting that to sting but all I felt was relief. I'm not sure I can put that toothpaste back in the tube.
On hiatus, possibly forever.
I just wanted to point out for people learning to plan for events, one element of this message could be learned from. All events are announced a week in advance. While I can understand it's frustrating that none of the event crew's faction items are included in the required event shuttles (I share that frustration), I want to point out a learning opportunity here. If you are a regular on the forum, or your fleet officers are doing a good job, you should have ready access to know of the event crew 1 week in advance.
Rather than working on leveling other crew, you can use this information to look up the event crew (Apollo in this case) equipment and faction requirements in advance and begin running the appropriate shuttles (AND the daily cadet missions) to stockpile the faction items you need in advance. They don't even need to be in your crew yet for you to gather the faction items you need. Visit the "STT Crew Cost Finder" website tool, review the total faction items needed for that crew member, and compare to your stash. Even for new events if you want to plan for a new crewmember you can make an educated guess, such as farming federation shuttles for federation crew like spock, or dominion shuttles for dominion crew before the start of the dominion mega, etc.
I sometimes forget to plan for event crew like this, but it is very comforting knowing you're all set for rapid levelling of event crew to help you be prepared once it starts.
Agreed. Just don't bother doing it for the legendary in the thresholds. She's not going to be of much help at all...
This is a slap in the face. They previously had rerun crew at a lower threshold, it was a nice treat and well recieved.
Then DB fumbles on the 1-yard like with this nonsense. They add awesome rewards but put them out of reach for most players.
Frankly, Im not pleased at all. Ive been affected by most of the major issues. Polywater Yar, Mirror Picard, etc. This one really grinds my gears.
Im drained on boosts from the Captain Spock event and have real life things going on that prevent me from going all in. I’ll still crack 250VP, but thats not the point.

Stop making it so hard to enjoy the game DB.
I agree. It's disappointing that they took a nice thing away for no reason aside from lining their pockets.
I'm around 250k now but I really don't want to lose sleep over this event. Hopefully I'll know where I stand tomorrow night.

DB is not responsible for you being drained on boosts and your real life stuff. I loaded myself up with many 3* time reducers etc. for the Captain Spock event initially. Cause of his average stats I reserved them for a different event. And while this Spock card doesn´t look as great as Captain Spock it will be useful in Voyages and cause of the Pilot trait in the upcoming mega. Hence I attacked this one instead. In a game with limited resources we have to make choices and cannot attack each and every event.
And while I know this forum is mainly about slurping free water in case you are so hot for all the Threshold rewards, maybe Mountaineer Spock etc. and you have no more boosts you could have also bought some boost packages. Again your choice. And not on DB.
... you could have also bought some boost packages. Again your choice. And not on DB.
And, before there's a chorus of "P2W", I'd just point out that with a little math, it can be shown that even a person running 50% success missions at a ~3500 VP level can reach 400K if:
They're willing to use all 31 post-kickstart cycles (yes, sacrifice IRL time)
They're willing to save up doublers from 2-3 weeks of Thursday cadet missions (ad-doubled)
They're willing to invest in something like $10 worth of additional boosts,
They're willing to increase that IRL time investment with another 20 or so time-doubled cycles. (Fortunately, there's enough waking time in the event that these don't have to be run at night, but garden variety 3-hrs do)
Yes, $10-$20 U.S. is actual $ invested (but that is for an EXTREMELY weak hypothetical crew - for most it would be much less). But it's also a price point that the forums generally agree is not unreasonable for an old gold if you really want or need them, c.f. the recent the $9.99 offers. If you don't, the consensus advice seems to be to pass, they're just not worth it.
I suspect the IRL aspects above in (1) and (4) are the pain points for most people, not the $10-$20. What was once more casual now requires more personal time investment, which is less fun. The better your crew and success rates, the lower the investment, whether time or $, but event at 90% it's a slog.
What this amounts to, basically, is that top 1000 will get 2 gold crew. I don't mind lots of threshold levels. Yes, the bonus old gold crew would be much more helpful at a lower level. I'll get her, but only at the end when there is no time or use to immediately level her. Anyone going for top 1000 will get her. Anyone looking for more stars for their purple crew will not. Is it fair? DB makes the rules, so yes. Is it good? I don't think so. I would prefer it at 100K or 150K where it would potentially be useful. Does this upset me? Not at all.
Remains to be seen whether the recent changes will be positive or negative in the long run. If tougher faction events makes for more competition and spending then db will see it as positive. If tougher faction events instead make people give up and stop playing in a large amount it will be negative.
I gave up this evening once I realized I wasn't going to get GoE Troi without spending more money and I never have a problem reaching top threshold normally. I already bought one 10 pack of premium shuttle boosts (which was almost ALL 3-star boosts). I'm not buying rental tokens. This event has become too pay to win for my tastes.
As always, it's all relative. Rakal Troi has been on every shuttle wave of mine, despite the fact that I have slightly more bonus crew than you (though fewer golds).
Both Rakal and BO Troi made it onto all of my shuttles with similar bonus crew. It depends which faction you're picking and what skills the missions have.
Hello. I was just wondering about something: I had technical difficulties with this week's event. Now, it is highly probable that it's my device that's the culprit. DB even compensated me, for my troubles. I don't really know how well I would have done this event anyway, but can't help but wonder how much better I would have done if I didn't have difficulties. If it is my device, causing the problem, then I don't know if I deserved any compensation at all. Or was it somehow DB, which had no wide problem regarding my matter? Here a screen shot: if you can't see it, it has negative thousands of chronitons and wait times of days, not hours nor minutes. So, there is no problem now. I've done the trouble shooting they suggested. Either way I'm satisfied, whether it was a DB problem or my device. A little disappointed and embarrassed I didn't do better this event. I guess what I'm really wanting to know is: Was the problem with me or DB? I don't see any further compensation being necessary. Just curious. Maybe it's irrevalent?

@Future Turen Counterpoint - someone else on the forum had a similar problem recently. You might want to re-post your question in Engineering, since this event thread will rapidly move off the screen and be ignored.

yeah, i've seen couple post of negative chrons before and that is most certainly a bug in the code as that should not happen under any circumstances. If your device isnt black listed and you can install the app from your app store, then it should be working as intended and not freak out like that. Good thing this wasnt galaxy event, eh?
Captain Lvl 99; Vip0; 552 Unique Immortals; Fleet: Omega Molecules; Base Lvl 134 (MAX); Playing Since March 2016.
So as a vip0, I have no problem with the 5 star threshold being 400k vp..
.
.
People that can hit 400k vp in a faction probably don’t have the same crew slot woes than those that can hit the old threshold but can’t hit 400k vp.
Well I do. I had to shuffle my cadets back and forth and spend 18k honour to freeze one and airlocked 2 SRs to make room for the bonus crew I thawed. :DD I'll get them eventually. maybe...
edit oh i give up, it says down there 'you can use BBCode in your post'. font size is something I cant figure out lol (tried to make the 'maybe' in tiny font, failed. multiple times.)

I sent out one last wave of 9:00 shuttles, but was so exhausted I slept through the end of the event without completing them. All four succeeded, meaning I missed out on 32000 VP. Whomp! I still wasn't close enough to Goddess of Empathy Troi for it to have mattered, but I think it might have gotten me the premium 10x pull. Oh, well!
I hope DB and Tilting Point are still calibrating the right VP level for rerun ledgends. I don't know what the number should be, but I can see 100k being too easy, and 400k is a stretch. Perhaps 250k?
It depends on why they are putting them in the rewards table to begin with. If it's as an encouragement to newer players, it needs to stay in the 100K range. If it's some sort of reward for established players, then something higher might be more reasonable. If the goal is to sell DYC's for it, the target needs to be lower than 400K, since only the pure collectors will have a reason to buy them at that vp level.
Actually, having it at that level is bad because of the DYC.
I finished in top 500, yet still didn't get Troi until yesterday afternoon.
Which means if I wanted to DYC Spock, I'd have to be VERY CAREFUL to not claim my end of event reward until later today.
Some people may not think that ahead. People who would be more likely to spend on a DYC for a shiny new character than a rerun 5*.

Putting that 5 star at a lower threshold accelerates my crew slot problem more since I don’t dump legendaries unless I have immortalized them.

I even like how they repeated Apollo as the threshold so I can immortalize and freeze him.

All I’ve had for the event are:
Mirror Kirk 1/5
Admiral Kirk 1/5
Romulan Kirk 4/4
Apollo 4/4
Bridge Officer Troi 4/4
Durango Troi 1/5
Mintakan Troi 4/4
So, yeah. Not too good.

Yeah he is solid for voyages, and will be great for skirmishes.

I was floating around the 1k mark all Saturday because I slept in. I used around thirty 3* time boosts on Sunday and power leveled to Troi.
My primary goal was Spock since I didn't have anyone with that skillset in that order.
