With 3hrs to go, it's a tight race between MECHAlobe and... no one. I don't usually care how players choose to use their money/resources, but a 5 million point lead seems excessive, no? In any case, congratulations in advance for another faction event victory.

While it may be true that there is no such thing as overkill, when your lead is a larger number than anyone else has in total VP it would seem a little overboard. But hey, their money, their choice in how to spend it...if they want to guarantee victory beyond all reasonable doubt, so be it. Having gone way overboard myself on occasions when I wanted to be certain I wouldn’t slip out of the top 1500, I can understand that line of thinking.

The argument for going overboard is you convince other people not to try to compete. If you're close but in the lead then you could have someone else try to beat you and then start a "bidding war" that ends up with you spending even more. This way no one even tries to top MECHAlobe and there is no risk of the bidding war sending VP even higher.
I was not expecting so many others to be fighting for a copy of Hugh. I was at 1501 just a few minutes minutes before close, although that was right before my last shuttles returned (and I ended at 1291).

This was my thinking too.
Until I win an event and have room to criticize others, I will be content to sit on the sidelines and watch how others do it.
Wasn't able to sign on this last week due to crazy RL issues. But I still wanted to post here that Hugh's stats were a real disappointment. He had the potential to have a unique skill set; instead he's an also ran, albeit a reasonably strong one. Sigh.
