Glad I saw all the speculation about an honor sale, as I was able to do one of the Begolds with saved up honor. I had a choice of Scientist Degra (2*), Joachim (0*), and Lt Com la Forge (0*). Went with Degra.
The second one I bought and had this barely helpful Begold:
Honestly, if I didn’t FF Frazier there, the Begold would have been a waste of money. But with all this, I was able to FF Ishan Chaye Sisko, so it’s all pretty good for a day of work. 😃
Always be skeptical if someone advises you how to spend anything. But I can see certain strategies here.
40k - One Begold + Citation
10k - One Begold (once per day)
10k - One Random Gold
The 40k is the best one, because you get a random pick of three, and get a citation for an existing one. The one begold a day is also preferred over the Rando Gold because that Gold could be someone you have FFFE.
I would buy the 40k as many times as you can, until you have 60 - 70k left. That way, you can enjoy one Begold a day for the rest of the sale.
Do not use your citations on crew that is in the Portal, because you might be shooting yourself in the foot. Use your citations on a new crew, someone safe, someone recent that will not be showing up as a Begold choice.
I had 150k. I bought 2 x (40k) packages and a 10k Begold. I now have 60k left over so I can Begold every day the sale is available. I used my two cites to finish Doctor Van Gogh, because he's not showing up in the portal this week. (For the record, I received first stars for Borg Janeway, Action Figure Sarek, Red Pulaski, and Annorax).

Basically, sacrificing 2 guaranteed citations for 8 bites at the RNG apple.

You have perfectly encapsulated the dilemma, because there is absolutely a "correct" logical choice (the 40K option), but there is also a "correct" you've been hoarding Honor for months you should have fun with this! choice (the daily 10K option).
Bylo, technically it’s a trade for 6 bites at the RNG apple (since you get 2 begolds with the 2 cites).
My opinion: since you’re already going to get 10 begolds with your 400k honor... maybe that’s enough RNG already? If you only had the 80k honor, I’d say enjoy the RNG ride. But for someone with a deep citation plan, fewer random cards seems advisable. But either way - have fun!

I would probably go for a begold a day. How many unowned cards are in the portal that would make your cite list? How many do you own that still need cites? And most importantly, how much fun are begold's for you?
Logic and consistency. These are things I like in life. Someone explain to me why Tuesday August 4th, 2020 is a logical or consistent day to start an honor sale. I hate the randomness of it.
Surprises on logical days, on days where you expect them are nice, but predictable (which you prefer). Surprises on days where you don´t expect them are real surprises on the other hand (which I prefer). Also in these challenging Covid-19 times anything nice is welcome...

Xmas (or “holiday” if you prefer) 2018 and Convergence Day 2020 - these make sense. Is August 4th a meaningful day in Trek? Does it mean something to TP or WRG?
Happy to see the sale despite being short of my own honor accumulation goals. Happy that all of you are happy too. But I hate the randomness of it.
I would say besides the reduced prices in honor it is a sale after all. They want to sell the honor packs to people who did not save that much. To me it makes sense.

I like your discipline and long-term thinking. Harry is Featured crew this week, but it is a Galaxy. That final 🌟 for Thrax? Much better in the long run. Can pop him in freezer if need room for better Legendaries, and bring him out if he ever useful for a short term.

Did 10 40k pulls and 1 10k behold. Have 100k left so tomorrow 1 more 40k then 10k daily to end. Wanted to try to pick new good crew to broaden my roster unless the new crew were not featured in events or were rated poorly in Big Book. Took 7 new crew and 4 stars, plus now 10 cites.

In my own unique way, and with the guidance of trusted friends and community members, I slid into a solution that worked for me, and scratched both itches!
I chose to do the 40K begolds, but I did all 10 (I have enough for more than 10, but they cap it at 10 per day) in rapid fire succession to get that rush of just a "reckless" mad resource dump, without really stopping to reflect. I just unloaded 400K Honor, made my begold choice fast, and moved on to the next. It was thrilling!
And now I'll sit on those citations until the Honor event is over, letting the anticipation build up again over the next week or so, and then do another mass citation to get that rush too.
So far, ZERO regrets, I got super lucky on my 10 begolds. I was able to add stars to many existing crew including immortalizing Mambo Picard, and of the choices where I HAD to take a new card I was able to get crew like White Rabbit, Xindi Insectoid Counselor, and Assimilated La Forge!
