Can we merge Empath and Telepath?
thanks Shan, this must've been a tremendous amount of work, can't wait to see how this new feature works!
and if i'm noticing it, surely someone else will - will the consolidated traits be removed from the locked away missions too? I seem to remember one node requiring "rich" which looks like it's disappearing, so did that locked node just get easier?
Thanks Shan and team! I like ALL the trait changes you propose and think they will really help!!
Is this the extent of the trait audit, or is there more to be cleaned up?
I think there is one big cleanup remaining that would be extra important with this new, heavily trait-centric feature: Having more separation of Race/Faction/Military traits when they are presently all the same word.
For Captain Picard, the Race/Faction/Military traits are Human, Federation and Starfleet.
But for, say, Commander Tomalak, those traits are Romulan, Romulan and Romulan.
"Romulan" is a particularly good example given the long standing back and forth with Shinzon. Who also needs the "Politician" trait, what with being the ruler of the Romulan Empire and all.
(While we're at it, should "Clone" be folded into "Engineered" ? ...and while we're at that, why is Detmer Engineered for using a technological augmentation, but Geordi is not? Oh dear, I've gone crosseyed.)
The only exceptions to this I would see is in membership in a Faction with no specific military force (but that's what the Civilian trait is for) or one where membership in the Faction is identical to membership in its military (Borg Collective).
EDIT: Saw they were adding Romulan to Shinzon. Started comment before the full changelog was posted.
“We would like to thank the community who participated in discussions on social media and forums about crew traits. These discussions were invaluable to our team in making decisions and highlighting areas of improvement. We hope that the community continues to help us improve crew traits and will be listening for future feedback.”

Thank you, too, STT Team. 🖖

Got your back, if you need help.
This was almost my exact thought. I have a heavily modded spreadsheet that used the DNA as a major contributor, but needs to be manually updated now since the two are no longer compatible. I saw the change log, and I had to pop 4 Tylenol’s to ease the coming headache...
A Bashir variant was released today who, inconsistently, doesn't have the Physician trait. Can you speak any more to the changes to your process?
It looks like one of the aims of this trait audit is to remove traits that only have a few crew, but there are still dozens more like Excaliban and jahSepp. Are those 1-2 crew traits going to all be removed and not accompany new crew going forward?
I guess if I were to offer feedback, it would be to visit the trait audit thread on these forums and go ahead with some of the very obvious changes
Resistance Neelix - Courier
Trelane - Duelist
HMS Pinafore Data - Pilot
and the dozens, hundreds of others.
Two crew with the Breen trait added for wearing the uniforms and Jadzia gaining Klingon for her involvement with Klingon ritual and culture, but Determined Paris is not Klingon? Surely his engaging with Klingon ritual is even above and beyond what Kira and Dukat did that was Breen-related in their episode.
Not the Betazoid trait?
I'm thrilled that this issue is finally beginning to be addressed, but there are miles to go. Don't be afraid to keep going and make as many changes as necessary if this new feature depends on the accuracy of traits.
Ok, now you've gone too far...
Protecting the Galaxy's Future from itself
And it really is quite lovely.
EDIT: The only other QoL improvement that would get me to spend again is the Inventory.
There's significant enough difference between both sets that I don't see why they would be combined. Ambassador and Politician for sure. I would protest that merging. I would probably accept Empath and Telepath merging, but still don't agree with it.
I'm not going to get into the discussion on what traits should be added to or removed from specific crew. I know the community will nitpick it to death until the most obvious traits are done. (Like Pilot for Pinafore Data and Veteran for Tux Nog.)
I think when it comes to species and faction/affiliation we're just going to have to **tsk tsk** it up and accept unique traits in those instances. It doesn't seem right to remove them and there's also no real way to combine them into something else that doesn't end up affecting large swaths of other crew as well.
Also Doctor Paul Stubbs has both Astronomer and Astrophysicist but does not list Astronomer being removed.
Wrong episode. This is a Real Bashir.
I am just not convinced that Empath/Telepath has been distributed accurately in game. Llwaxanna is a Telepath, but Dianna is an Empath. Was there a difference in their powers mentioned in the show?
yes,sir - for example, deanna can feel the feelings from other lifeforms (empath)but cant read thoughts, her mom can read thoughts (telepath)
My guess is that he will. He will still be a Q variant, just not in the continuum.
Can she? I just figured she was better at reading emotions due to her being a pure Betazoid. Her comments about Picard’s thoughts, I always read as just her reading his emotions in a very detailed manner OR her just messing with him (more so the latter).
Yup! I'm pretty sure this was clearly laid out in the TNG pilot, but it might only have been mentioned in Lwaxana's first appearance.
A few suggestions:
I noticed recently that Kolihnar Spock has the Astrophysicist trait but Seeking Spock and EV Suit Spock do not. I thought this was particularly interesting since all 3 of those versions are from the same film.
And thanks for the addition of Luau Paris via temporary achievements. Shouldn't he have the pilot trait? It seems like a pretty integral part of his character, at least as much as the Maverick trait is, so I thought this was a notable omission as well.
Although not a *crew* trait, I've seen it mentioned in the forums that the Scimitar is missing the Cloaking Device trait. We clearly see it cloaking/decloaking in Nemesis. Will this be addressed at some point?
Yes. Deanna is half-Human, and does not have the full telepathic abilities of full Betazeds. She has empathic sensitivity to emotions. She does have limited telepathic abilities, but not with people she is strongly emotionally connected to, like Mommy and Imzahdi.......
Didn't Worf appoint him as his Regent to rule Q'onos, after Worf Necromongered Gowron?
