This is outrageous. If you call THIS a game-breaking "exploit" then why was no one ever banned for $5 DYS or using IAP or the Independence Day debacle from a few years ago. All of those offered way more of an advantage. This new feature is still completely gated by Quantum. Without that all the polestars are useless anyway.
TL:DR your reasoning makes no sense and this was not the hill to die on after allowing worse bugs for way longer.
Was the $5 DYS even ever acknowledged at the time? I thought they just sort of quietly fixed it in the background. Say what you will about DB, they knew how to bury a mistake and move on.
Im not a fan of the way the ban hammer was used today, in an event, during a mega. Blanket bans rarely ever work as they are supposed to. We also dont see them in this game often. How many even knew this kind of thing was on the table? It sounds like TP targeted based on the number of clicks, but didnt share the theeshold for a ban. Lack of transparency.
That being said exploits and cheating are prominent in today’s gaming culture. In some games it is rampant and totally ruins everything. I can see how TP feels they need to act swiftly.
The response here is way too heavy handed. Dial it back, make ammends and repair the relationship. It’s been a while since Ive seen the forums this hot. Takes me back to the free Mirror Picard debacle.
The "AND" shuttle bug that cost us a lot of money on false percentages and the current issues with stuck voyages also stand out as the game exploting us.
My new question-
I expect my ISM and constellations will be wiped out due to others’ testimony that’s it’s gone, including any that I legitimately claimed previous to the error. (Pretty messed up on top of this hugely out of line ban)
Clearly I’ll miss out on the Chrons, honor, and ISM from the fleet rewards.
Clearly I’ll miss out on event rewards.
Clearly, since I’m banned, I’ll not get these 19 packs offered to all non-banned players (or players who only hit the “Buy Again” button 1-19 times instead of the 20 times I hit it, since they weren’t banned, didn’t have all resources taken, and get extra packs as reward.)
What of my dil from monthly card and campaign track rewards? I paid for those. I’m not making the choice to not login and not do dailys, that choice has been taken from me by a badly thought out decision based on a mistake not of my doing.
I expect what I paid for to be given.
The "AND" shuttle bug that cost us a lot of money on false percentages and the current issues with stuck voyages also stand out as the game exploting us.
I think its easier to just ban the people who had shuttles that DONT fail.
And if your voyage isnt stuck, you are clearly skipping over the glitch that we didnt fix, so you need to be banned.

Don't forget the broken portal that Shan came here to report was working and had been tested by the lead QA Engineer live in production and then 30 minutes later the Product Owner came on to acknowledge it had been broken all along. Somehow Shan never acknowledged how the pack was tested live in production and confirmed working if it was broken the whole time.
... The problem with doing nothing or just taking back gains from a bug or exploit is that it creates moral hazard for the next bug or exploit; if there's no danger of penalty, then there's nothing to stop people from deliberately cheating every time a new exploit appears.
I appreciate the moral absolutism. Here’s IMHO a better idea: is it too much to ask for new features to be ... what word am I reaching for here? Ah. Yes ... TESTED by the devs and programmers before letting them into the wild?
This is the equivalent of finding a $20 bill on an empty deserted street. The responsibility lies with the loser vice the finder. Again, we’re apparently dealing with very basic and greedy people, so the lesson will likely be lost on them.
This just proves my point; you've just said "I would do it again" but with more words.
You Picked really shaky ground to stand on. I think you should back off.
Okay, but next time don't come at my post puffing your feathers and bobbing your head if you don't want a response.
Not banned, I think. I've been out most of the day since reset and found this after I'd hurried around in game grabbing chronitons, turning around shuttles, checking my voyage, etc.
This is the worst business debacle I've been caught up in since the feed store put $3.99 ducklings and $11.99 goslings in the same bin without realizing nobody that worked there could tell the difference! The manager nearly spazed when my mom explained that what they thought were ducks were geese and vice-versa. They had been confusing the two for nearly a week. I tried pointing out the difference, but I was eight and ignored. Mom interrupted them trying to "correct" me. "I've been around both for fifty years. That is a goose, not a duck. The bill is pointed on a goose. A duck is round like a spoon." The panicked accounting they were doing when we left was funny. NO ONE WAS BANNED FROM THE STORE FOR IT.
In fact, when I told my mother what happened today, she immediately responded with "If you weren't supposed to get more than one, why was there a button?" It might be best to consider what a layman would think, should you get sued. The TOS protects from abuse and malice, not incompetence and ignorance.
I could have collected more than once. I don't know. My day is out of sync with the game. I might click on something twice if it is still there and I can't remember if I already claimed it or when it resets. If the day is hectic, I might click several times, because I can't remember if I claimed today or when it reset.
If they did it hundreds of times, that is intent. If it gets tapped a few times extra.... How are we to know which of YOUR mistakes WE will be punished for? This game has more bugs than the Everglades. The indicator not lighting up when I have what I need to equip a crew, the indicator lighting up for a crew when I don't have enough to build something, and the keyboard not appearing to file a ticket are just three I've had to deal with today. I watched my antimatter drop to zero because the recall and confirm buttons took repeated clicks to work. Used a token. Who knows how long the game will last.
It crashes constantly when I'm buying something or opening packs. It crashed when I opened yesterday's pack. How would I know if it worked or not if the pack is still there when I log back in? I can't name all the constellations I have or had and used. Section 31 Georgiou and Riker Q come to mind, but didn't even look to see what I got today. I'm not anywhere close to retrieving another crew, why would I even worry about it? I have daily tasks, scans, shuttles, and the unending voyage to deal with.

Easy. A kid goes into a candy store, sees a lollypop they want and go to buy it. Cashier says its free. Kid gets another lollypop, cashier says its still free. Is the kid gonna stop?
Of course people want more free. Are you really saying that you dont want “free”? Is that your argument?
In this case, these guys gave a lot of free. Obviously at this point we all know it wasnt intentional. But they went so far as to place blame on the people who saw the sign that said “free”. Just like you are doing.
My opinion is this, if TP get to call players being victims of DB/TP's notoriously bad UI, "buy-more" and confirmation-less gameplay style as "exploiting the game", then I get to call TP and their mismanagement of their entire screw up as sheer incompetence of the highest order that even an first year business student would know to avoid.
Interesting... I'd always wondered what would end Star Trek Timelines for me (because let's face it, this game is getting more stale and boring all the time). Then this convoluted new "feature" comes out and I'm thinking oh okay something to at least re engage interest. But alas, no. Your handling of this situation is inexcusable. I didn't even log on at all yesterday to experience this issue, but out of solidarity for all my friends on these forums... This is it... This was your mess up and you discipline your consumers for your incompetence? Screw that.
I really have to wonder what ViacomCBS is going to think about all this. 🤔
As long as they get their licensing fee they could care less what happens in this game. But if enough people stop paying for in app purchases then CBS won’t get their money and then they will shut the game down.
Truthfully I think that TP wants people to stop paying money for this game. Why else would they ban the player who give them a steady stream of income. They want the game to fail.
@Baragash
To be honest, I don’t think they’ll care tooooo much either. On the other hand, that means Timelines is small enough to squash without it really mattering if the whole shebang gets to be too much of a headache. 🤷
A 3 day ban is too light in my opinion but I guess I can be happy that the Laissez-Faire mod with the laughable profile pic, the inability to correctly spell the name of a Trek character - who's been around for 2 decades - and the immature attitude of a kindergarten kid even did anything. Of course, by next week everything will be forgotten...until the next **tsk tsk** up by DB (and don't give me the "wE nOt sAmE cOmPaNy" **tsk tsk**...you can change your name but not your identity).
At this point, I'm not even mad at the exploiters anymore, for they're not the ones who screwed up a game some of us have spent THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS on!!
No. It's ALSO the programmer's fault! You introduce some unknown crap NOBODY asked for, then aren't even able to test it properly, only to spam your apology emails (the last in-game message I've read from you dates back to 2017, by the way) and hand out 20 quantum solace packs that still can be exploited by the player base...
If you can't put out a fine game without glitches, maybe just retire for good and let some people who know their IT stuff work on Timelines. Or are you that dependant on the money? You certainly don't give a damn about Trek or its fans, that's for sure. Every new update, 3 mistakes...at least. I've had enough of this. This crap today is the straw that broke the camel's back.
You're pandering to those who've never even spent a penny on Timelines by letting them choose 5 star characters every 9 days?! Why the hell? And then this idiotic feature doesn't even work properly, good job, really!
All the non-sensical 5 star choices based on characters who barely appeared in the Trek universe for 10 minutes notwithstanding, your recent screw up is the worst. And the audacity you have to not even admit your mistakes and continue to move on like nothing happened...
You wanna help cheaters so badly? What's 72 hours? 72 weeks, that's what it should be (at the very least) to ensure that cheating never occurs again!
You, the programmer, the cheaters and everyone defending this immorality should be banned from the game and this forum, forever. But of course, YOU won't do jack against irresponsible behaviour.
Go ahead, Shran...delete this account for speaking the truth. Everybody who uses their brain already knows you side with racists like "phu" or "dr.feelgood", that's why they're still around after all. Actually, I wouldn't even be surprised if you sabotaged this feature on purpose. That would explain the lenient "pUnIsHmEnT". 72 hours...lol. Good joke, buddy.
You're undeserving of my money. I wonder if Star Trek Fleet Command is worth checking out. They certainly can't be worse.
Have fun banning me for speaking the truth. You won't get one more dollar from me after your latest failure. Good riddance!
The "AND" shuttle bug that cost us a lot of money on false percentages and the current issues with stuck voyages also stand out as the game exploting us.
I still don't trust the "AND" shuttle "fix", and feel that's why some people still claim so many failed shuttles that have 90+% estimates.
I know that's off the subject of this thread, but it shows that I don't trust the coding of this game very much to do what it says it's going to do. Even after it's been "fixed."
I saw an in fleet chat about the bug, but it had already been fixed by the time I went for claiming items after the daily reset. If I had seen a "buy again" button, I probably would have pushed it, like I accidentally got to the tutorial before it was supposed to go live by curiously pushing the button in the Achievements section to "Retrieve Crew."
And frankly, I was so concerned about trying to get a handle on the mechanics of the new feature, that I wasn't sure if there was going to be a daily pack or what. What freebies we were going to get and how wasn't on top of my "pay attention to" list. When I saw the first one, I wasn't sure if there was going to be one the next day. So if it showed up with a "Buy Again" button, and I hadn't seen the post in fleet chat, I actually would have figured it was how it was supposed to work.
One question, would the massive ban been implemented if the section next to it for Daily Credits (500,000 for $0.99), "Limit Once Daily", had the bug and people kept buying that for lots of credits?
I'm glad my Monthly Card is on Day 17, so I have a couple weeks to see how this all shakes out before deciding if I renew it or not.
I think because TP spent so long and so much time on crew retrieval that they overreacted with the ban. Three days is too long for a mistake TP made on a new feature. I get that people kept claiming it and that some who did it likely figured it was a bug and tried to benefit from that. But three days is too long for a first time banning of people in this situation. Especially when after the ban TP opened up the portal with 19 pulls for everyone else with a pull system that didn’t work right and kept showing as 19 and expecting the players to know that this bug is one that players can still pull by continuing to push the buy again button.
So you guys leaving in the "buy again" is blamed on us? Only those who were there at the start of the event were even able to make use of this, so your most active players are now affected by the ban. That's just pure genius.
This just proves my point; you've just said "I would do it again" but with more words.
I never did it in the first place. I didn’t KNOW about it until after the fact, so I’ve got no moral high ground to stand on regarding that point. However, your attention to detail doesn’t fall far from the logic underpinning your moralizing.
My last comment and I’ll go back to lurking bc y’all are too much.
TP is NOT responsible for how a different company handled prior exploits.
TOS clearly says you agree to arbitration for any claims and agree to not be part of any class action, so good luck with that route.
Lastly, my issue is with the disingenuous nature of the complaints. I looked and i took the first screenshots of the error at 12:03. Took me 2 minutes to realize there was an error and I wasn’t the first to post the glitch but y’all want to claim you thought it was supposed to be that way?!
If one of you posted something like I knew it was a glitch I pressed it 20 times even though I knew that. I expected at worse you’d take away the extra. Please the ban was excessive can you reconsider...maybe I’d be more sympathetic.
But no you want to feign ignorance, claim you are at no fault whatsoever and make demands and threats. I really hope they don’t reconsider. It would be far worse for TP to cave to this mob.
I’ve read every post on multiple threads regarding this and only one guy made anything approaching a reasonable request and even he is claiming his fleet mate only clicked it one extra time.
Truly a shameful day for this forum and player base.
72 hours ago I was literally spamming a close button trying to get out of that god awful event UI that you all jacked up and now you are telling me that I shouldn’t spam a button when nothing is happening? Brah.
So you’re saying you were hitting the buy again button, no animation or change to the screen happening and you keep pressing the same button? Not the other button?
Took me 3 presses to realize the event screen wasn’t going to close. I’m not some critical thinking genius. I’ve read enough threads on here to know that there a lot of really smart ppl playing this game. So stop pretending like you’re mice.
Not buying this excuse either.
You guys must be spending tons on this game though if you just blindly pressing every buy again button you see.
I am one of those players "who exploited the issue to a degree that was not acceptable." Shame on me.
!
TL;DR I won't continue playing after apologizing to my fleet and if you happen to know anyone in Freedom Fighters [FF], please have them kick me - [FF[ Kane Starkiller so that they won't continue to suffer as a result of my actions.
!
Now, the rest....
Is WRG insane? I don't want to echo what has already been said many times over. I will use an analogy because that's fun:
The developer left cheese in the pantry. A bunch of bad little mice ran in and started taking the cheese. This little mouse ran back to the mouse hole and said "Guys, free cheese!" and some of them took the cheese too. Now the people who own the house (and accidently left the cheese out) set some mouse traps and caught a bunch of bad mice.
Problem! They actually like mice. They make cheese to ATTRACT more mice and make better tasting cheese to make mice HAPPY. They milk mice, you see, and the mice allow themselves to be milked as long as there's plenty of good tasting cheese.
Of course, an older mouse has tasted lots of cheese. Some of that cheese is pretty stale. The new cheese is somewhat interesting and maybe excited the mice who had gotten sick of the old cheese.
So you caught one of the older mice and SNAP! This little old mice died eating the cheese. This little mouse might hang out a little and stink up the joint, but won't be good for milk anymore. Also, this little mouse had a family. Ever wonder what happens to baby mice when the adults get caught in mouse traps? They starve. So my little mouse family is going hungry because I died eating the cheese. I'm not suffering, I'm dead (and planning to stay dead).
Now maybe some of the trapped mice will come back, beg for cheese and say "please let me have some more" and they might even allow themselves to be milked. Even so, how many good little mice are going hungry? How many will starve to death? This seems like a rather strange way to milk mice, doesn't it?
SO. Back to reality. What does WRG expect to come from this or more importantly, what good even could come from this? The correct response is, of course, "Oops! Our bad" and to shut the pantry and make sure all the good little mice are being fed. Has the developer asked themselves "Did these players intend to do something wrong?" Because I definitely didn't think I was and still don't, except in that I feel I've failed my fleet. But this is a game about tapping to get stuff. How can WRG blame anyone for doing just that?
This action seems rather short sighted and reactionary. Maybe that's what I am too for taking advantage of the exploit. Right or wrong though, WRG's action is very likely a bad one for business. If disciplinary action is justified against players like me, I should think it would be justifiable to also take against a) whomever was responsible for creating the exploit and b) whomever decided on a nuclear option to nail all the exploitive players AS WELL AS THE PLAYERS WHO DID NOTHING WRONG!

Having previously worked for a £220m t/o subsidiary of CBS, Timelines is far too small for them to give a damn.
I had a similar thought. Is there no control over what happens after you license your precious trademarks to a company like this one?
