Like I've spent a very substantial amount on this game, probably nowhere near what those in eXo or BL spend, but still, I have acquired a very strong crew and even I have trouble breaking 1500. This event is closest I've gotten to 1000 being like 1400-something. And even I know I probably won't break the 1000 mark to get a 3rd star on my Leo. I'll be lucky if I do, but I would say with about 98% certainty, I won't break that mark.
I hope you did make it! I didn't have Leo but managed to finish ~630. I put this down too 1) the shuttle boost method at the beginning, 2) pulling a Chapel and having her FE(except her threshold reward item) at the event start, 3) Having Temporal Seven FFFE at the start of the event, 4) having a decent selection of Janeways (Arachnicana FFFE, Borg 1/5 FE, Captain FFFE, Klingon 2/5* FE) and 5) my fleetmate @Paladin 27 who had a 3/4* Leo to share
I was a little worried by the failure rate towards the end but I had saved a few boosts which I used to make sure I was within the top 1000.
