If my prediction is correct, Sarek will be the 500th crewmember... so you won’t have to worry about varients as he is already included in the mega-event bonus crew.
And it could be a reason why they are not concerned about queries such as yours... though I am giving DB a lot of credit where perhaps it ain’t earned.
Not entirely true. If it is Sarek, then Ambassador Sarek also needs to count as a bonus card (though he is old enough that hopefully everyone has him done already).
I'm expecting a giant excrement show over how this was portrayed. It's fine to hype the 500th card but make it someone worthy of the hype. A fan favorite and/or long-requested card. Someone super awesome. Don't make it a random STD Sarek. If you want Sarek to be the 500th fine, don't hype it, just make it like any other event.

Enterprise WAS great. Apart from the last season. Though there were some good ideas in there it was very patchwork and poorly thought out as a story arc - unlike the first 3 seasons.
Enterprise has some weird wtf moments but generally worked out quite well. T'Pol and Trip are two of my favourite Star Trek characters, and it took me aaaages to warm up to Trip. And the Vulcans were awesome. Vulcans being one of my favourite all-time aliens, and Shran really cranking up the Andorians, and some really clever aliens being thought up with the Xindi.

It's a Discovery event because Discovery is about to air the final episode of the season. It makes sense to feature crew from a show with new episodes currently being put out weekly. I personally really enjoy the show and have no problem with its crew being featured. I like the new take on Star Trek and the serialized season. I don't think another 90's-2000's era Trek series would be successful. TV has changed too much since that time. And except for the Klingons all looking like some form of Ninja Turtle, I think the show is great.

It was cancelled because nobody was watching it. Personally I think Scott Bakula must have learned how to act from David Hasselhoff. I found that series unwatchable aside from a few episodes.
I admit that I like Discovery. I am not sure it is good Star Trek but it is a good show.
I think Shras Endilev is a very good choice and I was hoping he'd be offered but another Burnham? I am not so thrilled about that. I am sure there will be better choices for new Burnham's in the future and really... we already have enough and I wish they had gone with someone different like Lt. Commander Airiam, Lieutentant j.g. Joann Owosekun. Lieutenant Keyla Detmer, or Lieutenant B.A. Bryce even though they haven't had big rolls on the show as of yet. They are all cool in their own way.

Season 2 doesn't come back til 2019 so past this coming fall.
We'll have to see if they tone the Discovery down a bit in the off season, or if every or every other mega will have a tie in.
