So, this is new -- or at least, I never noticed seeing it before... did a bare minimum this weekend in an alt account and when I collected the end-of-event rewards, it didn't give me any squad rewards, instead there was this message:
"Must contribute at least 2000 points to squadron in this event since joining to claim Squadron rank rewards."
Now, squadron rank rewards are kinda pathetic, to be sure, but if this is new, it would have been nice to know about this ahead of time. I could've easily done enough to get to 2000 VP.

It's not new. I encountered that last year at some point when I scarcely bothered with one of the myriad Galaxy events. Speaking of which, I only slightly scarcely bothered more this time. 5565 VP was good enough for rank #43463! Looking over the final rankings, just about my entire fleet yawned at this one, with the majority of us way farther down the rankings toward where I was. We had 45 participate, with a median rank of #15403. There were another four abstentions altogether. I've never seen such widespread disinterest in our fleet.

Ah, okay. Strange that I never encountered it before, since I've done the "do a couple of recipes and then throw in the towel" thing a few times before. But yeah, you're right — my fleet was much the same... a great many of us sitting below 40,000th place. But next weekend's event should drum up a lot more interest — Kolinahr Spock is a draw for me.

There were definitely some folks trying. I managed to get my extra star on Zek, but damn there were some folks making it a challenge ranks 700-1200... was tight.
It was a little more competitive than average - over 400,000 points required.
I gave up on any idea of the top 15 after an hour.
It cost the usual 8000 chronitons for top 1000.
I think all galaxies will be this competitive going forward.
Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, is all ancient history. Then, before you can blink an eye, suddenly, it threatens to start all over again."
I was kinda hoping this one would be easier. Felt like it was a safe bet to go all the way since it was a repeat, the top prize was in the portal and people would save resources for upcoming mega.
I could blame a whale for whaling on me but I still lost to a VIP0 and I was a little under-prepared anyways. Managed to only get ~3000 out of the 4000 trophies I figured would be needed for first.
Lol I guess having all the event crew FE paid off. I was only about 6000-6500 chrons for a top 1000, and I misjudged where I was going to be with the SR turn in and ended up top 500.
8000 chronitons for top 1000? Y'all definitely want these 5*'s more than I do.
I don't recall ever spending that many chrons to get top 1K when it's been a card I wanted to try for.
That actually sounds kinda low to me. Granted, I haven't played for rank in a Galaxy event in some time, but the last time I did, I seem to recall easily dumping several thousand more than that just to barely secure a top 1000 spot.

Well, disinterest this, disinterest that... yet I was punted from top-1000 despite trying. Well, not trying hard but still trying.
Not disappointed though. 5 star in circulation would've been good, but not wasting slot on weak 5* is also good.
For a while during the Event I was afraid the opposite would happen to me - that is, I definitely was not trying to get Grand Nagus Zek, but thought I might 'accidentally' do so!
What happened was, with it being the Easter weekend, last Thursday afternoon I quickly powered through a bunch of recipes to get my Victory Points total to a level that I thought would land me comfortably in the Top 2000, as I wanted to finish the Event with a FF'd Anij. Doing this, I was briefly in 4th place in the rankings after a few hours, but of course knew this would drop, as I was not planning on doing anymore recipes over the weekend. Worst case I figured if I was tight on Monday morning, I would top things up a bit.
When I checked my ranking on Saturday afternoon I was still in 228th place, and thought with the Event being more than half finished, I should have been closer to 500th, if I was going to 'successfully' drop out of the Top 1000. When on Sunday afternoon with less than 17 hours to go in the Event my ranking was 565, I was really getting nervous. But then Monday morning with a bit less than 5 hours to go I saw I had dropped to 942nd, and felt much more confident I was go to be 'okay'. Ultimately there were many others who made a late push for the Top 1000, and I happily finished with a final ranking of 1453.
I too did not readily have a slot available for a Rich new Ferengi to be added to my crew ... but if it had really been necessary, something would have been figured out ...
my supplies for these events are largely depleted. of course you may spend less if you have supplies, but then you should add in the cost of gaining those supplies. you may also spend more if you have no materials at all.
the cost has been 8000 +- 1000 for me pretty consistently.
and the cutoff has been generally between 350,000 to 400,000. there was one where it was like 500,000 but everyone had the 4/5 gold for that.
More and more people seem to be hoarding now so the price is going up.
I had like 70,000 and was thinking of going for top 15 but after the first hour I saw it would cost probably all of it so I bailed.
Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, is all ancient history. Then, before you can blink an eye, suddenly, it threatens to start all over again."
I just hoard a weeks worth of voyages and other chrons usually. Sometimes I'll extend a voyage once to get those extra chrons. I'm spending now with the upcoming faction. (Not sure why I am as I have now 22
The recent more often galaxies have crimped my immoralization streaks though, as I only finished off 17 last month and 16 the month before that. I'd been doing 20+ in my peaks in 2017.

Could this be though due to how much progress you have made with collecting the cards? I also used to Immortalize a lot more crew before when I had numerous 1*, 2* and 3* crew left to finish ... but now when for the most part I only have 4* crew available for immortalizing, naturally I am doing fewer.
In November of last year I immortalized 22 4* characters and 3 3* characters. There were 2 Galaxy and 2 Faction.
February had Galaxy, Hybrid, Shuttle, Galaxy, I immortalized 17 total characters, 1 was a new 3 and one a new 2.
When more events burn more chrons, if you participate, then you have less chrons to level characters.
(That's also more of a difference than a 2 day difference in month length would cover for.)

What about crew you FE who aren't immortalized, though? I know when I look at my list and I see a week or more between immortals, I know that was when I was working on some 1/5's and x/4's, but I have to consciously account for those.

I only have 1 4* FE that is not FF in the entire collection.
Of the 5s, 4 done in Nov, 2 in Feb.
I can go through other months as well, but since I play all events unless I have all three event crew maxed, I see the trend, more Galaxy Events and/or phases means less character leveling.
I don't understand why that's such a hard concept.
I don't pay for chrons, and I end up hoarding chrons for at least several days before a galaxy so that I've got fuel for the event, only ad-warping, faction shopping and replicating during those days. (I will burn a small number of chrons if I don't get enough ads for the daily rewards after doing Cadet/Arena tickets.)
Feb had 3 weeks this was an impact, to get enough chrons to compete to make top 1000 at least from what bonus crew I had etc, Nov had 2.
This mega will be back to the Nov level that I will hope will lead to more success in leveling characters.

It's not a hard concept. I'm not disputing that Galaxies are an intrusion into working on crew. That's one of the key reasons I hate 'em. I was just wondering aloud whether, like me, you may sometimes overlook that you FE crew in between some of the immortals. That's all there was to the question. Not some thickheaded inability to understand that Galaxies consuming all your resources gets in the way of putting those resources into crew, not some inane attempt at a "gotcha!" trap. Just a simple question about whether you sometimes overlook the same thing I do.

I hear that... its just seems like everytime I mention this I gotta go through more and more machinations to make the point. I'm getting very close to making my FE and Immortalization spreadsheet public and just referencing this each time it comes up.
And Feb at least was insane, as have been some other recent months.

Probably the best you'll get without doing it yourself.
