So quick question, as someone who's never really gone for rank in a Skirmish before, but has a bit of a lady crush on 60s Diana Muldaur - not counting pouring all the threshold rewards and chrons that come in during the weekend, what's a ballpark figure for how many chrons I'd need to have saved up before the start to have a hope of a single gold? I'm starting from scratch (I didn't really think ahead, and just blew my Galaxy leftovers on various crew I've been working on for a while), but normally in a week I can put about 5000 chrons in the tank - kinda-sorta enough, or am I off in Lol Noob Don't Bother territory?
I mean I can always just try packs the week after (and admittedly I do often have more luck than I have a right to from those), but the grind on a Skirmish has never bothered me nearly as much as galaxy or anything, so if I'm in the vicinity of an Ann, may as well. Thoughts?
5000 might do it, 10000 would make u safe. If you really want her stop doing galaxy now and start saving them chrons.
I’ve never had more than 5-6k chrons going into a Skirmish and I’ve never finished lower than top 350. Dedication and consistency are more important than startup resources in my experience. You just have to keep churning that Intel.

Yeah, I've also done quite well with no more than ~6k chrons at the start of a Skirmish. Just make sure to run a supply kit when you're doing those space battles for Intel.
Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing. ~ Data, ST:TNG "Haven"

As long as you use the common strategies then it’s usually a lot less chron than you might expect (especially compared to a galaxy event)
- Must have 1 FEATURED (high bonus) crew equipped. Depending on your setup, it doesn’t need to be someone with a good ability, as long as you drag them along for the ride.
- Always use supply kits when running space battle missions to earn more Intel. Extra efficiencies by only using missions that are multiples of 4 chron (before the 25% supply kit discount) cost.
- Time and boredom are the enemies. Find a good setup, learn the combos, then it becomes muscle memory. You can then watch DS9 reruns with minimal attention on the game. Keep up the faith; chron rewards do drop at the advertised rates but it may feel that you have to go quite deep to realise them.

5000 sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
Agreed, I've ranked and don't really invest in extra chons. I am very religious about doing ONLY Space Missions with a supply pack, just for the extra intel. That and the random chron bonuses are more than enough to remain quite competitive.

...although it depends. Some skirmishes the bonus chrons flow freely and you need a smaller initial chroniton investment to maintain your Intel. Other times the bonus chron tap gets throttled and you will want more than 5K to make sure you rank. And as always, the popularity/desirability of the featured 5* crew matters.
It is definitely possible to get by with 5K, but I would not count on it.
Probably going to start saving right now and use DIL on M/W/F cadet depending on the stats of the 5*. I'm 3/3 so far on making rank on the mega event, so I'm really more excited about using this upcoming event as a farming cycle for supplies and honor.
I would like to add one little thing to the Skirmish strategies. It's just a little thing, but I like to dump a bunch of chronitons until I have 100k+ Intel, then start skirmishing. If I make it through, then I repeat. Also build back up before your Supply Kit runs out. This can reduce the amount of Supply Kits that you'll need and keep you ready to Skirmish if you get 5 minutes free. Don't underestimate what 5 minutes can do if you do that 3-4 times a day.

5k chrons saved up sounds plenty, I usually have something like 1.5k - 2k going in and I dont remember ever finishing outside top 1k... just keep grinding those ship battles with supply kits and have voyages going..

Thanks for the advice everyone (especially the bit about doing multiple-of-4-chron missions under a supply kit, I remember thinking that'd be a thing that'd have an effect when I first ran into supply kits, but I don't bother normally and I'd actually forgotten about it). So I'll take the shot - probably have a bit less than 5k saved, since I remembered I need to be doing some missions to finish the dailies, now that there's the campaign to keep up with, but it'll still be 4-something-thousand, and Netflix has TAS so that'll keep me occupied while I'm hitting buttons. If it works it works, if it doesn't, well no harm done and it'll be a good gauge of where I'm at performance-wise.
Remember that you are doing voyages and dailies during the event too which brings in chrons. One thing I like to do is not use the chrons that DB gives us in our mailbox unless absolutely necessary. That way I have chrons saved in my mailbox for a reserve if needed.

Maybe 10k should do it. I usually shoot for 1 million VP on skirmishes to be safe.

Good luck. Supply kit + running 4/8/12/16 chron space missions + daily earned chrons is all I've ever needed. If you're committed to spending the time to grind I'm sure you can get the 5*.

I see skirmish events as a way to earn honor, which is the principal resource of which I am short. If you use a supply kit, warp missions to get intel, run lots of skirmishes, and grab the bonus rewards after each battle, you should end up with nearly enough chronitons to do it all again with the added bonus of some honor. Repeat, repeat, and repeat some more, and you can get 1000's of honor points. Event rewards are just a bonus.
