To swing all this back to something that I am crazy excited about while still maintaining the conspiracy vibe...
Now that we are finally getting one of the most beautiful starships in all of Federation history in the game, who do I have to bribe to get a mega-awesome character card for the single greatest helmsman ever?
I speak, of course, about the late, great Lieutenant Commander Miguel Ferrer
Just to clarify mine, Auto's and Stars positions with the Devs. We ask them to do a Q&A, they come and do a Q&A. That's it. We don't have pull/sway and any kind of intention to alter the game based on our whims.
If we did, this would be the least of our concerns. Auto does what a player does, point out that wow, his stats are bonkers, was this intentional? Because we know that they have a history with stat changes and the occasional error.
So @Banjo1012@BarnBurner@Trollita@Thurthorad please check your facts before you spread misinformation around because it isn't clever, it isn't productive and it certainly doesn't help the tone of these forums.
His stats were mentioned by others and nothing. Auto mentions it and gets an immediate “yes sir. We gotchoo my friend”. Bad look. I agree that the payroll thing is a bit much but I do believe the influence is there. You can say it isn’t all you want, it doesn’t make it so.
Somewhere in an alternate reality, Saru was released with the 1st set stats. Then 1 week after the event ends and people have spent all the resources they had to obtain him, some multiple copies, TP changes the stats. Not like this has not happened in our reality before (Yar-Gate comes to mind).
Meanwhile back in the alternate reality, the scene looks like this:
Founding ADM - PoF family of fleets (POF, POF2 & POF3) - Dear TP: Non sequitur. Your facts are uncoordinated.
Haha you fools took the bait. While you were busy gawking at Saru, no one noticed that I ordered WRG to give my favorite character Chakotay the #1 base and #2 voyage score.
But seriously if you want another crew changed, just dm me the details. It's $50 each, I take PayPal or Venmo. I'll just call up my bff Benny (he was the best man at my wedding) and have him move some numbers around. 1 stat change per customer, please.
How much to get a 5/5 copy of Saru for my roster? Asking for a friend.😂
This is all complicated because Shan and Ben know who you are. They’ve worked with you, and they trust you. Because of that, you wield more influence than most of the rest of the community (aka they’re more likely to listen to you than most other players). Use that power wisely.

It's not ideal that players are doing the QA for this game, but apparently the alternative is no QA at all, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. What if instead of take shots at fellow players we put the blame where it belongs, on WRG.
In any community there will be some people who have more credibility than others. The TT crew have proven they know Trek (probably better than anyone on WRG staff), they know the game (ditto, sadly), and they are reasonable people so it's not some accident that the devs pay attention to them. If you feel that the devs are pandering to them or something then again, take your complaints to the devs, don't attack fellow players. All Auto did here was ask the question, and it was a fair question considering WRG seems incapable of releasing anything in the game any more without an error somewhere.
Correcting a error and quickly and clearly communicating that fact before the character card even went live is bad... how, precisely?
Someone who is upset please explain this to me, because I thought we were all up in arms and getting out pitchforks- and justifiably so- a couple weeks ago about much the opposite.
Didn t you read my post?
A new Card is visible in the game with an awesome Voyage stats,
and i got excited and was looking forward to get this card.
Then because of some „pointing out/complaining“ stats get nerfed and my excitement turned into something negative!
There was no stats Error when they released the crew. Items had been designed and stats had been known by TP and the developers.
They probably just weren t aware of how much of a power creep(voyages wises) that card is. Without pointing it out, they wouldn t have changed the card at all.
I totally get that before, when Shan still posted the stats here on forums, typos could happen, but the crew had the right stats in game regardless of typos, because it was already designed.
TP introduced the tab feature that shows 1/5 and 5/5 stats, to get rid
of „typo issues“ issues and make it easier for players to check stats.
If now, we not even can trust the „displayed“ stats in game anymore...well 😣
And btw, the card is LIVE!
Once a crew is available in vault, you can get them via Dabo, if ur lucky.
And the crew showed up on someones Dabo for sure.
Hope nobody cleared the dabo for it yet. I would be mad for sure, after the nerf announcement.
And even if I already mentioned it:
When Professor Sato was released 2018, she was 250 ? base points ahead of
the #2 base crew back then and still until now(Human Saru) no new DIP base
Crew has even come close to her. 2018 that was even way more than a power creep than now Human Saru just being 200(unboosted) voyages points ahead
of #2. So i really don t get the „He‘s too powerful“ ** at all.
I don t have any issues with other opinions, but i stick to my opinion as well. 😉

I think the Dabo point is the fairest one. I believe he was added to the game too late to be active yesterday, but he will be in there today. At least the nerf message came out in time, but now if he's on mine I won't even know if he's worth it to push because I can't trust what's written there.
LOL don’t @ me. I can read just fine, and it looks like the forum buzz brought attention to the card. I happen to find the situation rather amusing, so you can calm down about “muh forum tone.” Pfff.
I’m sure this was deliberate, but your username literally translates to “little girl troll.”

Yeah. Maybe the payroll thing is a bit much, but neither auto or idol addressed it. Regardless i agree that denying they have any sway or pull is not going to change the evidence to the contrary.

I don't think the payroll thing is even worth addressing as it's so blatantly ridiculous. But I also think it's ridiculous of them to pretend they don't have more influence than the average player. No one's pretending they are suddenly running the game, but Shan and Ben are going to take more notice of them because they have a relationship and trust them.

And spreadsheets. Don't forget the spreadsheets. Having that system of comparing crew establishes a basis in fact for any observations they may express. They got the crew added to their spreadsheet faster than I did for the Viable Voyager Tool and presented their observation and questioned if it was accurate since it was well outside of recent norms.
I would have made a similar observation as far as the overall rank and percentage difference from the next best crew using my spreadsheet. And there was already buzz about the stats. This may well have been an inevitable outcome. There was just some timing that made people suspicious. Auto wasn't the first to mention the stats. He was just the one who presented related data in questioning the numbers.

It’s all good... 👍
As I mentioned upthread, though, this is a case of Occam versus Ockham. Neither one of us can definitively say that it was or wasn’t an error as opposed to a course correction.
Given their track record with QC I lean towards the error explanation and regardless, I do think that my point about the swift and clear communication being a massive improvement and cause for appreciation still stands.
As for the card being technically “live”...
Honestly, how many people do you think that card would have popped up for in Dabo, and how many of those would have cleared the board for him?
I think we can all agree that someone needs to get Barry Waddle a good cup of Raktajino.
Most of the first page of this thread is made of comments wondering about or celebrating the incredibly good stats of that card. It's perfectly possible that WRG would have reviewed it regardless of Automaton's comment.
If no one pointed out anything, maybe they would have only realized what they did in two weeks and at that point, there would have been two options:
- Yargate 2.0
- Leaving things as they are
We have no idea what would have happened. What we have now is mildly annoying, but much better than another Yargate.
Human Saru is amusing. Doug Jones is so natural as Saru, him as a human is strange. I'm not sure which is odder in my mind, Doug Jones as Doug Jones or Doug Jones in a bird suit...
It is a treat to see Doug Jones without makeup, but it's a little jarring. When he's fully suited I tend to follow his movements more, but without prosthetics I watch his face. Probably true for people in general, but Doug Jones is at the top of his field.
My subconscious also seems to have a general understanding of how tall Doug Jones is, but hasn't realized Saru wears platform hoof boots. So I tend to think of his cast mates as being 6" shorter than they actually are.
I also have to contend with knowing he did a stint in the Charlie Cardinal suit for Ball State. As often as Charlie did crazy things on campus while I was there, wondering what he did when he was Charlie makes me think a bit. Ride in the bed races? Travel the Cow path in a shopping cart? Pass out stress balls during finals week by throwing them off the roof of Pruis Hall?
Knowing how he got his start is both funny and intriguing. He graduated about a decade ahead of my sister and Anthony Montgomery (different majors, same college- Humanities) and way ahead of me and you see Charlie all the time up there.

I guess I’m in the minority on Saru. I didn’t even really notice his proficiency scores (or the potential voyage value). I just saw his huge Dip base and was impressed that Prof Sato was finally going to get some company in the base-stat stratosphere.
Regarding the discussion... I would prefer the stats are “as intended” in advance of a widespread opportunity to acquire the card. The Dabo issue worries me, but 99.9% of us will never FTM a card anyway. I don’t care who calls out the question - just get it right. Players have asked for double-checks many times. Sometimes the answer is “all’s good” and sometimes it’s “oops, fix is coming”. The post-acquisition adjustments to stats annoys me greatly (my biggest grrr moment was the removal of Sec 31 from Agent Janeway; Travis took a lot of heat for that inquiry, but he was just the messenger and DB could have left it alone). Whatever adjustment they make now, before anyone acquires him, is fine with me. If someone did Dabo him and feels cheated after the fact, then send a CS ticket.

they beat me to it as well or I'd have asked the same question. That jump was too good to be true so I'd rather ask and not have another Yargate.
on a separate note, its interesting that they introduce 4 crew to a single mega all of which appeared in the last 3 episodes of season 3? Human Saru, Bajoran Culber, Xahean Adira, Trill Burnham
Also I hope this doesn't poke a hornets nest, but I'm questioning whether these crew should be given the costumed trait (based on human saru traits). I would have thought being costumed requires an active role in putting something on vs what happened in the episodes.
I'm inclined to agree with you, but also I really want those crew in game, so I'm willing to let it slide.
Regarding Human Saru, I don't believe it was a typo because that's not how they build their crew. The delay in announcing the new stat tells me some of the equipment needs to be rebuilt in order to lower it. I'm of two minds on this - I kind of like the idea of that Spork being the top Voyage card (with bonuses), but I'm also liking that they seem ready to push the boundaries with power creep again. Maybe a drop of about 150 on proficiency would be a nice middle ground?
A typo in equipment stats is still a typo. And a couple points on every clothing item would be subtle and hard to notice looking at it until you look at the final stats and say, "hmm that looks weird."
This is clearly another case of WRG needing a better QA process. But to turn a QA mistake into a conspiracy theory about developers doing what one player wants is absurd.
This is what I've been thinking. I remember (not fondly) the Polywater Yar mess. Ever since then, people always ask if the stats are correct on really good crew. This particular time it changed, but has been asked before many times.

Just to provide a little neutral perspective ... the maximum voyage points that Saru can drop is:
(245+504)/2 = 375 pts
And that is IF WRG decided to put his DIP proficiency down to (0-0), which would be unique.
This means his voyage total goes from 3845 - 375 = 3470
A reasonable proficiency (if we look at his other numbers) would be around (130 - 350) say, and that would still be +235 for a total of 3706.
Braxton sits top at 3661 ... 45 pts lower (e.g. (100 - 280) for Saru's DIP proficiency, just keeping the numbers simple and in the same ballpark as his other proficiencies).
Host a podcast, talk to a single employee on air 4 times and then point out a glaring potential error?

Go to Boston, meet DB 2 years in a row, get drunk with staff, have picture taken with Radoff. Get given 1 of a kind book of in-game artwork. Suggest crew that gets made. Interview staff for forums. Get staff on non-official community Discord to discuss game/issues. Complain x50 about errors. Point out cards that don't drop in loot table despite being advertised. Point out David Marcus is coded as a 3*.

If you're just now figuring out that the players do QA for this game, you're about 5 years too late on that realization.
You're mad someone (third one to do it in the thread by the way) called out stats that were way outside the norm. The team looked and said "oh yeah, oops". Not mad at TPWRGDB, mad at the player who makes community tools that you all use. Do you know how many times Paladin has quietly DM'd Shan about an issue to get it fixed? Do you know how many times I emailed Nod back in the day to track down and get an issue fixed? Nope. Because they weren't public. You claim they 'listen' to a podcast host, but do you mind they listen to the guy that has gotten First to Max on 1/5th of the available cards in the game? Or is that OK because he keeps the lights on?
I seriously used to keep a tally of every QA snafu that players caught and brought up to the team. Then I stopped because it simply showed that history frequently repeats itself, however if you look at the bigger picture, they tend to get more things 'right' vs getting them wrong.
Lots, and I do mean LOTS of cards have been released into the vault or into players crew rosters that required time and/or money - and then were changed/nerfed by the devs. This is not the first card, nor will it be the last. This is only a controversy compared to the rest because of the presumed #1 voyage rank the card held for about 90 minutes....a rank, by the way, only known to the spreadsheet jockeys of the game. John Q Player has no idea what rank a new card holds and has to go consult an external website or tool hosted by - you guessed it! - spreadsheet jockeys of the game who quickly and efficiently tally information to make it available to the public for the greater benefit. This perceived slight against you didn't impact you unless you were on the forums and reading this thread - which by the numbers I can see, is about 40 people. That's not even a full fleet.
The Sato argument doesn't fit here for a long variety of reasons including but not limited to:
-When Sato/Keiko were released, the 'CHECK THE STATS' messages were 10 fold what this was. No one believed it, then when it was verified, no one believed it. Base stats were crazy high. Those aren't voyage cards AT ALL. They are shuttle cards. People don't clamor for a shuttle card the same they do for a voyage card. And yet, DB released those two in 2018 and then backed off, saying "OK, there are occasional crazy cards, but most will be of the standard variety".
Before Shan nukes this thread from orbit, some of you should *really* reconsider why you are on these forums. Your interaction with other players shows that you lack the skills to be functioning adults in the real world, because you clearly want to take up arms against someone you've never met over a video game character. The quick snap to judgement, name calling and accusations against someone else - which are all clearly unfounded, wrong and deliberately hostile by the way - should make most everyone else that reads this thread embarrassed to share this public forum with you.

Meanwhile back in the alternate reality, the scene looks like this:
How much to get a 5/5 copy of Saru for my roster? Asking for a friend.😂
This is all complicated because Shan and Ben know who you are. They’ve worked with you, and they trust you. Because of that, you wield more influence than most of the rest of the community (aka they’re more likely to listen to you than most other players). Use that power wisely.
I’m sure this was deliberate, but your username literally translates to “little girl troll.”
Yeah. Maybe the payroll thing is a bit much, but neither auto or idol addressed it. Regardless i agree that denying they have any sway or pull is not going to change the evidence to the contrary.
@Captain Idol @Automaton_2000
I think we can all agree that someone needs to get Barry Waddle a good cup of Raktajino.
this is a Comment moderated ~Shan sentiment, at best. what is wrong with you?

If no one pointed out anything, maybe they would have only realized what they did in two weeks and at that point, there would have been two options:
- Yargate 2.0
- Leaving things as they are
We have no idea what would have happened. What we have now is mildly annoying, but much better than another Yargate.
I surfer from it’s too much of a coincidenceitis
12:30: Event thread posted

If you're going to create a conspiracy theory, at least get your facts straight.
They are straight according to your timeline. And I’m not saying the dudes rule the roost. All I’m saying is they are listened to when others not so much
How about that Maquis Thomas Riker that should have been made years ago?
Same here.
FE 1/5, Level 100, CMD 661 (151 - 282), DIP 1080 (80 - 160), SCI 286 (103 - 265)
FE 5/5, Level 100, CMD 1089 (151 - 282), DIP 1470 (80 - 160), SCI 511 (103 - 265)
Not that it will matter much for some but when I browse a discussion, I look at the actual comments and their content, not the names.
Now if we could keep this discussion going minus baseless allegations, that would be great, thank you!
Shill, employee, on the take.

It does me.
