Yeah, it restricts how many people can get the "extra" copies of Legendaries.
However, most everyone, unless they literally start this week, should be able to get at least one copy of each FREE Legendary. Two of the weeks, the whole player-base is going to earn everyone one copy of the needed SuperRare to fuse. That leaves making what, 6,500 VXP, to get the other copy to Fuse?
Usually, "giveaways" are ONE copy of a Legendary in the Portal. This is basically FOUR Legendaries for not much effort in the Events.
Get more for doing more? That's almost how most of the real world works.....
One of the Legendaries has SEVEN Collections as it stands. Another has SIX, two Rolls with unboosted maxes that are 600+, and a RAFT of Traits for possible Gauntlet Crit Bonuses. Also, both are probably gonna help, at 1 🌟/level one/nothing equipped, to solve a lot of Nodes because of all those Traits.
Just a few weeks ago, I stated the factual information that one of the new SuperRares was a Ranked Reward in a Hybrid Event, with most people not being able to use her in the Faction half, where she would be most useful, unless they got lucky {I did} and hit her in the Event Pack, or she showed up on their Dabo and they happened to land on her, or spent buckets of Dilithium re-spinning. And I got a reaction like I had said "Babies are delicious." For stating facts.
The CURRENT Event, TWO of the "existing Crew" are ONLY "existing" because SOME players received them as compensation because of a mistake WRG made. Or, again, some happened to get them from Dabo. Not nearly everyone had definite access to them ahead of time.
The company has an obligation to the employees and to the shareholders to make SOME cashy folding money 💰. If they do not, the game goes away.
because these crew members will not be available until they join the Premium Portal and Crew Retrieval later this year.
So they will be released this year. Either we will get two portal updates this year, or only one in the Autumn or Winter, that is a very long time to wait since the last one.
They are also available on Dabo should you be lucky enough.
Every time there's an event with rewards that are less straightforward to achieve there's always somebody with the same complaint. "This event would be so much better if I didn't have to do anything to get the rewards".
It's like everything else in life, you have to balance the rewards against the effort required to achieve them. If you don't think they're worth the effort, don't go for it. That's your decision to make. But complaining that they should require less effort isn't going to get anybody anywhere.
You’re missing, or deliberately ignoring, the point people have been making. It’s not about requiring effort, but rather specifically about the linkage between the OE and four straight events. Regardless of effort level, only 1500 people will be able to progress in the OE after each of the four events of the mega without spending. In fact, it is the exact opposite of effort that is required, due to this deliberate limitation that forces spending (dil and/or cash) to complete the OE for the vast majority of players.
The entire source of the frustration being voiced in this thread is that the effort you speak of will have little bearing on the achievability of the OE for likely all but a few hundred of the top tier players. That is terrible for engagement and enjoyability, but is sure to increase sales incrementally, which is the true point of this OE.
They may as well have just added these crew to an expanded rank reward table for this mega, since that’s really what this OE is based on, as opposed to individual or collective effort.
Thank you for better elaborating my point. I have no problem myself, obtaining the RR in each event and finishing the convergence objective. However my fleet has voiced mixed feelings. I represent the many in my fleet. Many players will be left out of the opportunity to obtain all of the new cards within the objective simply because there roster does not afford them the ability to rank 1500 or better each event. Its not a matter of wanting to work for it, its simply a matter of roster strength vs account strength vs time playing the game.
WRG always asks for constructive suggestions along with criticism. So I suggest that all players can work towards threshold 3/4 SR copies if they wish to “play” “work” for it.
As far as “cashy folding money” we dont know if these new crew in the convergence objective will be offered in packs during the mega arc along with event crew, or strictly, as it currently appears, win events to complete objective, to obtain objective crew.
Then im pretty sure I saw, straight to Elusive Treasures, for these new objective shiny Golds.
1.Only 1500 people can win a card each event.
2. Sometimes people can punch 20 plus event packs and still never obtain the gold card.
I dont think it is simply a matter of effort or spending. It is a matter of how ranking rewards work in event and portal drop rate %.
Which in this case seems slanted to the top players, not all players who play for it or spend for it will get 1 to cite.

But that's what you're missing. All it takes is getting the 3/4 4* and you will earn a copy of the 5* OE crew. You won't be able to get the 5* at 3/5 unless you rank top 750 or buy packs. But if you get the 4* threshold card and fuse it, you will earn the first copy of the 5*. So they made it accessible for almost all players to get the new 5* cards. And then players that want to work and compete for extra copies can do that.
Every time there's an event with rewards that are less straightforward to achieve there's always somebody with the same complaint. "This event would be so much better if I didn't have to do anything to get the rewards".

One of the ways that people outside the top 1500 in an Event can get that Legendary the next week is to buy the Legendary in the Portal Offers.
Cashy folding 💰 can be exchanged for goods and services. Such as by buying the Offers.....
It's not really a new thing in America, or a lot of the rest of the world. It's been a thing in America, for instance, since Colonial times.....
"The truth is like a lion; you don't have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself."
Roster strength isn't an issue in this case. It simply doesn't matter for most events, faction events it definitely does, but for skirmish and galaxy it's pretty much irrelevant. And the only pure faction event is the last one of the mega, after all the necessary legendaries have been awarded, so completely irrelevant. It's a total non-argument, but it makes a convenient excuse when you don't have a better one I suppose.
I've decided I'm just going to play as I normally would and take whatever comes to me from this OE as a nice bonus.
I might have been tempted to go harder, because I do have completionist tendencies, but the preponderance of galaxy in the relevant weekends has put me off (67.5% of the time is crafting). My personal QoL improved hugely when I decided that 130k-and-done to get the new card immortalised was fine and I didn't need to push myself to go any harder. There are a few cards I want badly enough to break that rule, but none of the relevant ranked rewards nor the bonus crew from the OE fall into that category for me personally.
Just here to say, 33 days for this event. Plenty of time for people to pick up a few packs after the mega is over and to get the last few crew levelled up. Very nicely thought out. Thank you.
One suggestion for next year, the oe crew don't have the jan2024 trait. They're fun crew regardless, but giving them the trait would have meant extra bonus crew that players could have been building up during the month.
I've often felt a way to build excitement over a month is to start with a small bonus pool and let players build the bonus pool by earning more crew. Instead of granting so many bonus crew up front that crew earned over the month don't really matter.

Yes, basically, this event is "<expletive> players, we take more money for you to celebrate with us that you put money into the game existing for so long". Interesting. Other games celebrate larger anniversaries by actually doing events that give more playing fun to players.
(On a personal note, this brings me close to stopping to play this game finally, after being with in from before the official launch. Also because people realizing this dropped me from rank 360 or so to some 700-something in the last 2h of the event ending today and I was looking forward to being in the top 500 for once. <expletive> it, really. I'm sure bringing long-time players to the edge of throwing it all away is what an anniversary should be for, right?)

At least TWO of the Legendaries are going to be totally free. The Sisko is in the Portal now, and another goes up when he expires.
I mean, let's not forget WRG is a business. They stop making money from the game, they stop making the game.
I play another game where LITERALLY they "thank" the players by SELLING items to mark milestones.
Minimum work can get FOUR free Legendaries, two at two 🌟. It's definitely better than "Hey, it's our eight anniversary! Celebrate with us by buying this mediocre Carrier for $💯!"

You apparently have either no life or no idea what "minimum" means.
You just admitted to placing 700th in an event. That’s double the work of clearing all thresholds. That’s quintuple the work of obtaining the threshold 4/4.
You’re not really in a position to be hurling insults about someone’s life or game effort.
I wasn’t originally going to grab Bunny Colvin. He’s pretty unremarkable. Tuvok on the other hand is worth obtaining. So I spent some time watching Good Omens Season 2 whilst tapping away. Yes, I shanked someone out of top 750 and I did it with minimal effort on my part.
Yes, with an effort that is way more than usual and which took away a ton of time. When I get work, I can sell an hour for €100 without taxes, if I value my gaming time with that, it's a ridiculous amount that runs into getting to rank 1500 and that's even only 1* on the Legendaries. At least I got a copy of this Legendary butcher (who was murdered by a Starfleet doctor who immorally covered it up together with a Federation nurse who is now a murderer in second degree as well, I guess). My motivation to take part in the rest of the events or even in the game still is at an all-time low though.

Fusing the new SuperRare gives you one of the Legendaries. TWO are FREE in the Portal. Just playing the Event, Skirmish and Faction you need to score 35,000 VXP. For Galaxy, and the Hybrid with Galaxy, you only need 6,500 VXP.
That is not exactly as hard as building the Taj Mahal solo in a weekend, with no tools.
So, within the bounds of "minimum" for most people.
Seriously, some people, if it was raining beer 🍻 would complain they have a five gallon bucket instead of a six gallon bucket.....

Apples and oranges. Which seems to be intentional, to build your strawman.
You do NOT have to finish in the "top 1500" to get two copies of the SuperRare, which is what is required to get the free Legendary with, what amounts to, "minimum effort".
Actually, if you sign into the game, you can get The Sisko for a couple of clicks. Is that too much to count as "minimum effort"?. One of the other Legendaries will be available when The Sisko expires for the same number of clicks.

If you can easily convert one hour of work into that amount of money maybe you should’ve just bought one of those event deals. Sounds like it would’ve been cheaper.
In any case, you still haven’t established why getting a 4/4 is “bad”. Especially when that 4/4 gives you a free 1/5.

Well, before going here, I didn't even realize there were any Purples in this OE. Needing to go here to find that out really takes away any joy about that and in sum doesn't make me feel any better, though.

The OE has been in the Event Hub for several days, and shows all the Objectives. Including the 4 🌟 Fusion ones.

I couldn't see anything in the Event Hub that tells me those are Purples. Well, WRG is excellent at communication, as always. Though usually more friendly than people in here, apparently. Well, thanks for making a bad game day even worse, I guess mostly staying away from this place is still as good a decision as it has been in the last months.

He provided useful information. You were the one to basically say he has no life. If anyone was unfriendly it was you.
Most of us long time players have plenty of issues with the game but there’s no need to get worked up about anything.

Apologies if I upset you.
The 4 🌟 this week is visible in the Event rewards. The four that are not the Legendaries for Ranked Reward are the new 4 🌟. It takes a little sussing out, definitely. Looking at the way we know the ones with the known 5 🌟 and known 4 🌟 are used in the OE narrows down the ones that are 5 🌟 and 4 🌟. They probably could have put in the Mega Announcement who is 5 🌟 and who is 4 🌟. But, that is not usually done.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on perspective, the only time they "front-loaded" all the new Mega Event Crew in the Vault was the time they did the Pre-Cap Packs instead of Recap Packs.
I sincerely hope you have a better and a wonderful tomorrow!!!!!

Between the event hub and the mega event announcement all of the information has been available for quite some time. It does require a tiny amount of thought to put the two together, but by WRG's standards the communication has been excellent.
I understand it is three 1/5 just for doing nothing. COP Sisko and two beholds.
Four 1/5 just for doing the minimum I normally do in events.
A 4/5 for doing a little bit in the events.
Three more copies of COP Sisko for merging and levelling the Mega reoccuring 4/5 above.
That is two 4/5 crew for this mega with minimum effort. We have never had that before.
We also have extra stars for the Four 1/5 if we put the effort in, and rank, and possibly use one citation.
I just need to decide whether to go for a second Saru.

Saru seems to be dupe-worthy often. I did a second Saru with the Med, IIRC. Back during my Med struggle. Was the one from when he evolved? Some Word in his language starting with a "V"?
Dang it. I actually looked for the "Crew" Wiki page tab.....

Anyone who is avoiding following ANY laws, perhaps do not discuss it on the Forums.....
add Kirk and they can start a COP collection. Didn't see the announcement of the Betazoid collection.
WTF Saru says:
"WTF, no bonus."

😥😥😥😥😥
EDIT: Vahar'ai
EDIT-EDIT: I wonder if I should open some Quipment Slots on both copies for the next Disco Mega.....
EDIT-EDIT-EDIT: I never finished the second one?!?!?
