It only says "due to the holidays". The words 'short staff" must not have gotten typed.....
It's called not pointing out the obvious. It's Christmas. People don't work around Christmas. It's sort of a major holiday. People usually spend it with their families.
Maybe he's from a planet where they don't have holidays. Lets be sympathetic to "no holidays planet" humanoids. (i'm assuming he's humanoid since he's working a keyboard but that may also be false. I apologize)
A very good example of print items from the early days of Star Trek ending up being proved as "canon" was the "Star Trek Starfleet Technical Manual" created by Franz Joseph? in 1975. How was it shown to be "canon" you ask?
It included various classes of Starfleet ships, including Scouts and Dreadnoughts. Among those Scouts were the USS Revere (NCC-595) and the USS Columbia (NCC-621),as well as the Dreadnought Ententes {NCC-2120}. Now, comes "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". Among the communications heard is the order for those two specific Scouts to rendezvous with the Dreadnought Entente {NCC-2120} to intercept V'Ger. So, clearly print can be "canon". I highly doubt that Dark Horse? or whoever is doing the comics is doing them unlicensed.
That doesn't show it to be canon at all.
That stuff wasn't canon until it appeared on screen, at which point it became so.
(Non-canon stuff can and does occasionally influence canon stuff, but that doesn't make the non-canon stuff canon in itself).
The definition of canon is, and always as been, anything seen (or heard) on screen in an official live-action series or movie (Yesteryear from TAS and a couple of Jeri Taylor's early Voyager novels have historically been a grey area, but these are the only exceptions). I'm sure some marketing people would love to make it so all the comics and novels and whatnot count as canon, but they don't and never will.
NB: There is a difference between an officially-licenced product and canon. Due to copyright and such, anyone making money off the "Star Trek" name needs to be licensed otherwise they risk getting sued (or at the very least, shut down). But this doesn't mean that everything that's licensed is canon. It isn't. This isn't a reflection on quality necessarily, some non-canon stuff is very good, but this isn't the point.
Whether you personally object to non-canon stuff or embrace it is irrelevant, it doesn't change what canon is.
I'm sure some marketing people would love to make it so all the comics and novels and whatnot count as canon, but they don't and never will.
Mercifully, this is true. Though if I could have any one story from the page count as canon, I think it'd be J.M. Dillard's TOS novel Bloodthirst. Ever since I read that, I've felt cheated that I never got to hear Walter Koenig actually say aloud, "Starfleet Security can do nothing about...wampires."
Well it’s been a while but this is an event I’m genuinely excited about , it’s been so long since we’ve had an expedition phase and I’ll be very happy to get a mirror Mayweather.
What would make it absolutely perfect would be for Mayweather to be in his badass Maco uniform, not the derpy TOS red like Reed.
Please use the same face for Mayweather. Please use the same face for Mayweather.
Well at least that would avoid whatever the hell they did to Reed, Vic and Data’s faces in the last two events, I feel like they must have employed a new artist who has either never watched an episode of Star Trek in their life or can’t create accurate character likenesses for toffee.
Hurray Expedition! Especially Expedition hybrid!
Hurray, more types of events.
Not hurray for extended event.
Thresholds don't change that; two separate issues. All events could use additional threshold rewards (without putting the final 4* at higher VP).
+ significant adjustment to the ranked rewards since influx of new players.
With ultra long events, most players don't think, "oh good we have longer to play the event and can take it easy and still do well." --- we think, "oh darn we have to divert even more time, resources and effort into it if we want to do well."
I think 4 day events are already overly long to the point of detracting from the rest of the game.
To me, an event is something special, that doesn't run the majority of the time.
Hopefully they don't use the worst Mirror Crusher art possible.
Yep, that's the one they'll use based on the one they picked for Data.
They'll use the comic art for Bev, just like they did for Data and Picard. The Data art was bad because they messed it up, frankly. The source art was iffy at times, but not bad.
The problem is with the source art you spend $5 for the comic and enjoy it for the content. DB is asking for $100 for art they didn't even create that is an eyesore. It is excusable to see art like that on one of 15 pages of a comic. I think most of us enjoy the artwork the most, but some of us buy these cards for the stats and their gameplay abilities. This card is also sub-par for those people as the stats are below some of my 4* cards. At the end of the day DB is turning out lousy artwork that they just copied and pasted from preexisting art and slapping abominable stats on it and asking us for a crisp C note. Try harder DB seriously.
I'm not disputing that the art is bad (it really is). I was just trying to prevent people from using the comic as a scapegoat.
DB's art is bad because DB's art is bad. Saying that it's bad because of the source is silly.
No I fully agree with you. Im just pointing out that the bad art is not even an *attempt* by DB to make a new card. In some ways this is worse than things like 23rd century Martok. If you think about it with that card they actually put effort into the card by drawing it from scratch (the art was awful) but they *tried*. With the mirror Data they didn't even try. If you act this out can you imagine the following scene taking place.
DB employee 1: We need a mirror Data picture to use this week......(hops on google images finds a few)....just use this one..
DB employee 2: This doesn't look that good...maybe we should improve on it?
DB employee 1: No just use it. They will still spend a lot of money on it even if it looks bad and has lousy stats. They will give us $100 for 2 copies of the jpeg and then another $25 for a third copy of it lol. Copies are free for us lol. Lunch now?
Ewww expedition. Well at least I wont miss getting mirror mayweather. I will play if Mirror Crusher is a good medical with three stats but I have a feeling since she is mirror she will just be heavy security with light medical though in the comic Captain Jellico gets her because she is the best doctor in starfleet.
Hopefully they don't use the worst Mirror Crusher art possible.

Poor DB employee 2, I like that guy.
Honestly, the fact that it was based off the comic doesn't bother me. A lot of the characters are purposely posed and such according to how they appeared in some episode or another. And that's to provide (I assume) a sense of "this character has been plucked right from the episode they were in". So if they're choosing to use the IDW design for the characters, it makes sense to choose a recognisable pose from the comics as a little bonus to people who have read them.
I think the real problem, is simply laziness. They just didn't try very hard, and it's obvious.
You're right that characters like 23rd C. Martok is at least indicative of some effort, as opposed to a thrown-together kind of character. Same thing with Augment Picard/Riker etc.

Yeah I agree. For the record I didn't mind Augment Riker/Picard the art was pretty good and original. I wish they had used another picture from the comics. I also don't mind that the picture is from the comics but if that was the best picture they could find then they didn't look very hard.
sadly expedition, i doesn't understand why this makes some of you so happy... it eats much more time than the other events...
Of all of the event types Expeditions take the least amount of time. I don't know why you'd think otherwise.
you're right. it takes the smallest amount of time, because i only play the faction part and let the expedtion part for those, who have a lot free time at christmas...
2. some people drop a ton of cash into the game instead of playing and grinding. expedition events stop a lot of people from buying their way into the top of the leaderboard because you have to spend TIME instead of MONEY!
and i'm not the only person which thinks, that expeditions takes more time...

I have a nagging suspicion that admins on official forums tend to be presented as female... in the hopes of toning down the anger and hate speech directed toward them. Just a theory. Also Star Wars Last Jedi was SO GOOD! Go see it now.

Maybe. But Shan is a female. (Go search DB's website for her staff pic.)
Edit: Well it seems they've changed their website. It used to have pictures and bio's for all staff, but now it looks like it's just the department heads. Anyway, back when they listed several dozen people she was on there.
Yea I'm not sure how it came to be assumed that Shan was female, I've been on this forum for awhile and I've never seen any reference to Shan's gender.

Yes, I've seen it, as well. Also, the Internet Archive sees all, and remembers all:

My only complaint about Mirror Uhura is that I've already got her immortalized, which of course means I'll have her ready to go when the event goes live, so that's nothing to complain about, really.
Same here. On one hand, she'll be useful. But with her addition here, and Mayweather, the odds of seeing Mirror Sulu or Marlena Moreau just dropped dramatically. And we've seen Mirror Uhura repeatedly, with events and packs. I'd love to see the "Mirror, Mirror" crew expand. I get that this is a comic tie-in event but with three crew slots to fill with each, you'd think we could add a new TOS crew.

Still one event left, if tradition holds we'll see the following:
1) No existing characters, all 3 new for the last event
2) Mirror Janeway
So with two other slots left, I'm hoping for one more TOS (Scotty is so due for an event...), and then maybe Troi from the comics. Might not happen, but I can hope. Course the last one will probably be a 5 day galaxy.....
