Wrap-up on the Adira kerfuffle. Basically they added the Blanket Adira art into the game before they should have. Hence the swap to EDF Adira, and the legit introduction later this month of Blanket Adira, and the free copies of them as make-goods
Wrapup on the Convergence Day / Community Rewards kerfuffle. "We wanted the rewards this time to be challenging, but still achievable. The tiers were indeed too high, because we relied on incorrect data. We thought it was interpreted one way but it wound up interpreted a different way."
Lower Decks update, though I'll mention Infinite Grant already touched on this in their thread -- "We did a few art tests, but as of now Lower Decks is unavailable.
When we see more show-themed Mega Events (e.g. for DIS crew, PIC crew, etc.)? Ben: It's tricky to do since those are "hidden traits" on crew, which means currently they can't be searched for within the Vault.
Future updates for the Galaxy map -- more Distress Calls or maybe a new, 11th Episode section? Ben: right now we don't have any updates like that planned. We do have a new Distress Call written, but not designed or quality-tested, nor do we have a timeline for it."
"We had to de-prioritize (but not cut) Mini-Events and Objective Events. We do plan to have two Events active in the Event Hub at once, hopefully starting later this month"
New Episodes -- none planned right now
That Q1 feature apparently will be a real big deal -- Ben called it "the most significant new feature I've seen in the game since Voyages". He also said WRG already has Q2 and Q3 updates planned for the Big Feature
Ben set out a puzzle for viewers and players to solve, "hopefully that take longer than 6 hours to solve", with this clue: ZEKVIJKVCCRI DVUZLD
No Honor Sale planned for this month :-( The Anniversary stuff is the focus for this month; the "new Q1 feature" is the focus for February; but Ben hints maybe an Honor Sale coming in March
Tied to that, the cohosts (Captain Idol, StarsAndGarters and Automaton_2000) asked if maybe there could be more ways to win Legendary and Very Rare citations. Maybe in a BeGold, one choice would be a Legendary citation? Or maybe put them in Gauntlet reward tables? Or maybe into Event Ranked Reward tables -- maybe purple Citations for players who reach Top 50, and a golden Citation for the person who hits Number 1? (again these are ideas the cohosts suggested -- not things that Ben said WRG is adding into the game anytime soon)
question about Gauntlet -- hey, how about staggering "start up a cohort" times to help out players in Europe? Since for them the current start time (7 p.m. U.S. Eastern Standard Time) equates to midnight or later in European time zones. Ben basically, yeah naw, probably won't do that. Not enough players worldwide to support that; might serve to fracture the player base by regions or time zones; and might confuse some players who have grown accustomed to the current setup, imperfect though it may be.
Any plans for a "Shipyard" feature within the game -- somewhere to customize ships, a new way to generate Schematics beyond what we have now (Dabo, 10-pulls, Skirmish events, etc)? Ben loves the idea, but no plans to add such a feature at this point.
When will Schematics for the newer 5-star ships (e.g. 1701-A, 1701-E, Fed Fighter etc) get added into Arena daily-reward tables? Ben says yeah, we intend to do that before the year ends, but no promises as to when.
To help out VIP-zero players, any interest in rewarding Tuesday packs to such players, beyond thru earned dilithium? Ben says they are looking at that. And also maybe other ways to let players add crew, e.g. a "pack token" that can be awarded
Oh shoot, they talked about this but I didn't note it at the time -- two new currencies coming to the game soon. Quantum Currency and Interstellar Medium. They will tie into the Q1 big feature.
Ben: "There's an anniversary change that we're making next week, that will make it easy to obtain crew. The Q1 feature will help with that as well.
The devs have some plans cooking for the forthcoming 1000th crew to come into the game (currently we're at ~980). Sounds like "MACO Mayweather", likely a Legendary, and like Mirror Mayweather, his costume is derived from ENT's Mirror Universe 2-parter.
Will the devs release a "road map" for the game? Ben: we have an internal road map but we don't plan to make that public. It's not good if the game becomes too predictable (e.g. players who thought an Honor Sale was coming this month have been hoarding Honor, and the devs prefer if we spend game currencies more evenly rather than hoarding them.) There will be another Honor Sale within coming months.
Carlos Data isn't in the Big Goodbye collection, though he probably should be. Any plans to update him? And going forward, maybe coordinate better w/r/t tagging new crew that should belong to a Collection to those Collection right out of the gate. Ben says we wouldn't rule that out. He also says the dev team's going is to add or update a Collection each month, and updates for Jan. and Feb. are already in flight. (A Collection "update" may take the form of adding crew into a Collection, e.g. Carlos Data into Big Goodbye; or it could mean adding more Tiers and hence rewards to an existing Collection.)
Speaking of Collections, any chance of new or more "STT Original" crew, those with art that isn't canon within any of the shows or movies? (The most recent one added was Assimilated Troi added ~2 years ago.) Ben says they like making them, though they typically stem from staff pitches, and they haven't had an Originals pitch in a while.
Gauntlet crew -- seems like strong Gauntlet crew get added very infrequently, maybe a couple per year (e.g. for 2020, pretty much just Red Angel and Twilight TPol). Ben says, if the player base want strong Gauntlet crew to get added more frequently, let WRG know e.g. on the forums.
Ben remarked on how the Dec 2020 Mega had a Faction hybrid Event for Week 2 followed by a full Faction in Week 3, and said the Feb. 2021 Mega will do something similar. Auto asked "Have you guys ever considered doing 4 Faction events in a row? Yanno just to mix things up?" Ben was like, naw yeah.
A few more Anniversary celebration tidbits, with "stuff every week for the next several weeks":
-- This week: 1x Luau Paris free to all players, with 3x more available thru Feb. 3rd via Temporary Achievements
-- Starting on Jan. 7th: Part 1 of a 2-Event mini-arc (Arrow Again / Faction Event)
-- on Jan. 12th: "We're making a big change to something in the game, I can't say what it is just yet". But there will be a preview announcement about it on Jan. 8th. "We're giving you a few days to prep for it."
-- on Jan. 14th, the official Anniversary date: new player Avatar (Grudge the cat) that unlocks if you've been playing for 5 years
-- on Jan. 19th: big new Dabo sale, unlike any we've seen before. For a short time they're going to disable ad-warps for Dabo, just for balance purposes.
-- on Jan. 20th: WRG will be releasing the long-awaited and most-requested Klingon Collection (awesome!) No word yet about how many crew the top tier will require.
-- What can we do to prepare for the "big change" coming on the 12th? Ben: "Save up your Premium Portal pulls"

It will probably be the solution to the all immortalized beholds. Maybe a further try should that happen. Or, which would be very impressive, they found a way so this does not happen anymore.
According to WRG Ben, this ginormous Q1 feature is "something that players have been requesting since the start of the game"...
So any guesses as to what this new game-changing feature is?
The way he was dancing around it, it sounded to me like some way to pay for the crew you really desire. Like basically if you accumulate enough of these new currencies, you can go somewhere and pay for your white whales. I'm sure it's infinitely more complicated than that, but that's where my head went. Maybe a market where players can trade?

I have been hoping for a market or exchange for a while and got a reply to an email that made me think something like that was in the works back...September...maybe. I'd like to be able to at least trade with my fleet mates.

I doubt it will be an exchange, but maybe a new currency that is earned by doing missions (or other various stuff in the game), which can allow crew to be bought in a way that is better than the current 50/100/200/1500/15k dil offer via faction shops.
Another game I play recently added a similar feature that allows players to buy specific crew, instead of just via random packs. The selection of available crew is limited and it refreshes every hour (or you can pay via premium in-game currency for extra refreshes). The big difference is that an existing in-game currency is used to purchase the crew you want.
If they want to control how the crew currency is obtained and/or avoid messing up the approximate exchange rates between all the existing currencies, I suppose the introduction of a new currency for this specific market would make sense. Much like we get the starbase currencies from running different missions, maybe this new currency gets added as just another drop.
A big trait fix update!! when was the last time we had one? the trait audit thread is there for a reason and i have no memory of the last time this happened... not to mention the thread in make it so isn’t being kept up to date...
A way to cancel shuttles, just bring your crew back immediately and that’s it, in case someone accidentally sends shuttles out the morning before a faction event (which i’ve done before lol)
I’d like some better compensation that 550 honor for airlocking a gold. they are priced so high in the game, it would make sense for something better to be the reward, because 550 honor doesn’t cut it for me.
just a couple things i thought of, what do y’all think? 🖖

This was addressed on the show. Ben stated that trait fixes, although relatively easy to fix were not a high priority fix (especially for crew like 1* Trill Riker) and for other crew where it might make more sense they would have to look at the balance of the crew. If they do some trait fixes it would take the place of a planned monthly collection, seeing as we have Klingon coming soon and one more for the following month I'd say they might do something like this in the Spring, unless it gets pushed down for another feature, bug, event or something more pressing.
This interview was good insight into the working environment of WRG and how they address things like this and what their general workflow it like.
Which the whole trait reply was BOGGLING to me. "This isn't hard" combined with "but we arent going to do it" shy of maybe dropping it into a random monthly update. Im glad their committing to a not regular calendar of updates, but if youre going to state that its a really thing to adjust, you take an hour and process those through, especially when the forums have typically done the leg work for you of debating which traits are missing and whether they're appropriate.

Not to apologize for him, but I believe that the gist of what he was saying is that not all things that are easy are fast. It's relatively simple to turn a switch, but time consuming to make sure it's done properly. For example, we don't really need to see the male/female trait for every single crew. So there would still need to be combing through the traits, renaming some of them (q_jdl is kinda confusing), etc...easy stuff, but time that could be spent on other features or QOL improvements.

I was thinking along these lines, but a little differently. The coding sounded easy. Checking balance relative to other crew and groups with/without the trait was more time consuming. Evaluating each crew in the trait audit thread would be a much larger undertaking since they would be dealing with a constantly shifting balance.
Maybe I misunderstood. That's just where my brain went while he was talking.

Changing the flag is easy. But checking balance takes time. If you remove a trait does that mean there are too few crew who is can clear a locked node? What do you tell the player who had been leveling that crew to clear the node. If you add a trait does that mean there are too many crew for a node they wanted to be hard. If that trait takes someone out of a trait collection what happens to everyone who already had the crew done? If you add a trait does that make a collection too easy? How much time do you need to spend testing the change to be sure a typo didn't accidentally break something else? These are all questions that they need to consider before making the change. And then ask themselves, is it worth it to delay the Q1 feature by x days so the trait can be fixed. Would players prefer a new mini event or have that time dedicated to fixing traits?

How much time do you need to spend testing the change to be sure a typo didn't accidentally break something else? These are all questions that they need to consider before making the change. And then ask themselves, is it worth it to delay the Q1 feature by x days so the trait can be fixed. Would players prefer a new mini event or have that time dedicated to fixing traits?
