We need a portal update theme song, as we are 230+ days into this scenario. I am thinking "Wild Thing," but replacing all mentions of that with "Portal Update." Of course, I am open to other song possibilities...

Edit: Coincidentally, "Harry Kim" also works in place of "Wild Thing", for all those Kim fans out there. I am not above multitasking a theme song for the greater good! ;)

theme song as in ‘it’s been a long road getting from there to here......’ ?

If we had a down vote...

    Captain’s log, stardate 201111:
Trip reported back on the mission to check the communications relay at the wormhole. Communications were working, but today the relay is down. Lieutenant Joe Carey reported seeing something in areas of the relay right before equipment in that area failed. Other members of the engineering crew also reported seeing some sort of shadow presence aboard the relay. Every time they saw it, they would search the area, but nothing would turn up. They would complete their repairs, then someone else would see the figure in another location. Eventually, Lieutenant Carey found messages in a terminal. It appears that a Cardassian is tampering with the relay. And a familiar one, no less. Carey suspects that Seska may be behind the sabotage. Not sure how she made it back from the Delta Quadrant, but I know better than to doubt her ability to do so. The repair crew estimates that it will take another day to fix the relay, but that depends on how Seska thwarts their efforts. In closing his report Trip reminded me that they are engineers, not a counterintelligence team. I started to remind him that he’s Starfleet, then remembered that he never actually attended the academy. I told him to report back as things develop.

    Science officer’s log, stardate 201112:
Captain Lorca asked me to put together a team to survey the planet we are currently orbiting to decide if it’s fitting for shore leave for the entire crew. The planet is Class M and very earth-like. I hope it will have a positive effect on the crew and maybe they can forget their troubles specifically the lack of reinforcements, at least for a little while. Rogue Harry Kim asked me to join the away team I was forming, although I feel he just wants to get his nose in everyone’s business. He’s been hanging around me a lot recently although i’ve told him many times i’m not interested in him, he keeps trying. I took a trip to see the doctor as soon as I was back from the away mission, he thinks i’m hallucinating but I could have sworn I saw that white rabbit in the flesh... or fur that is.

( @Prime Lorca [10FH] hope it’s okay that I did this, just wanted to get in on the fun! )

All are welcome! We ALL need this distraction. Hopefully we can keep a continuity, but if not, we'll just say it's diverging timelines. :) I love the science officer touch. It's canon now. Shall I refer to you as a Borg drone or do you have something else in mind?

    Captain’s log, stardate 201113:
Trip reported back in. He and Scotty have the communication relay back up and running. Seska (or whoever it was) was able to make a clean getaway, however. Lieutenant Carey swept the comm relay multiple times after they discovered Cardassian listening devices. Additionally, we found encrypted Cardassian communications. This has Garak’s fingerprints all over it. And if I know Garak, then I know there’s layers. How long have they been listening? Was the man who presented himself as my descendant actually a Cardassian plant? If so, what were his intentions? Garak could just as easily send a warning of a future he feared as he could send an agent to sow doubts about our current course of action. I'll gather the senior officers shortly, make them aware of our situation, and discuss courses of action.

I’m afraid we’ll need to wrap up our survey of this planet, return to DS9 via the wormhole, then set course for Cardassia. Lieutenant Uhura sent message to our engineering teams to sit tight and babysit the comms relay until we get there to pick them up.

Maybe we’ve been barking up the wrong tree for reinforcements. After 241 days with no word from Starfleet about reinforcements, maybe I should check with Garak and see if the Cardassians have recruited anyone to help get to the bottom of the Timelines Crisis.

  • Section 31 Agent [Redacted]'s log, stardate 201113:

I was contacted by Command today about a file I reported to the Research and Development department. They wanted to know who authorized the use of the untested [Redacted] technology I used on my mission to the comms relay. I informed them Section Leader [Redacted] authorized and approved my mission. I was told to stand down and wait for further orders. After they investigated, they discovered that Section Leader [Redacted] was acting independently, and he used me to deliver encrypted files to Captain Lorca's crew. On the surface these files contain coordinates, but with the proper encryption, they contain more. What? We don't know yet. Someone on board Lorca's ship has the proper encryption.

Command hasn't been able to break the encryption. Section Leader [Redacted] has been removed from his position and is under investigation. To think, he might have gotten away with whatever his intentions were if I hadn't have filed that report to R&D. I've been ordered to observe and report on Lorca's movements, and pursue should they travel back through the Bajoran wormhole.

S31 can't afford another blunder. Not after the actions of Covert Operative Leland last year. We won't be able to know what's on those files until we've broken through. For now, I'll just have to wait and see what Lorca's next move is.

    Captain's log, stardate 201114:
We beamed our survey teams back aboard this morning. We're at the communications relay to investigate the Cardassian devices left behind. Rogue Harry Kim found some encrypted files. I've asked him to extract the contents and brief me later.

Lieutenant Scott detected an odd warp signature when the saboteur fled. I've assigned our science team to investigate before we head back through the wormhole to DS9. I plan to consult security chief Odo about this Cardassian tech. He has some history with Cardassians in general and Garak specifically. Maybe he'll have a lead for me before I head to Cardassia Prime.

When I got a notification that you commented on this thread, I half expected to see a chef's log or Riker commenting on a holoprogram that he just ran, giving us the ENT finale treatment. :D

Oh, I did think about a log entry. ;) But I didn’t want to steal anyone’s thunder, so haiku it is!

  • Section 31 Agent [Redacted]'s log, stardate 201116:

    Deep Space 9 at last!

It's been an interesting couple of days. Shortly after my arrival, I made arrangements to meet my informant. He was less enthused to see me this time, considering he had to make discrete arrangements to have my ship worked on, and I was shorthanded this time around. The last time I came through we successfully smuggled in four bottles of Romulan Ale. I was pretty proud of the tactic, who else would have thought to put them in the legs of the Dabo Table? But Quark is good with evading Odo's security measures.. well, most times. And he made arrangements to have Rom take a look at my ship while he and I discussed business. I'm afraid to think how much I'm going to owe him for this visit!

I asked him if he had information on any recent Cardassian activity. He mentioned seeing Garak come through a few days ago and heard a rumor someone recently saw Seska. But neither of us could believe that to be true. Seska? Someone must have been trying one of Quark's specialty ales! I told him I'll be heading to Cardassia Prime soon. He said I could try talking to Dukat, but warned me to be careful trusting him.

After we talked I made my way to his bar. As I entered, I saw Chief O'Brien and that doctor.. what's his name.. Bashim; they were finishing up a drink. Bashim said he was meeting someone down in sickbay and had to go. I found a table in the corner and had a drink. While I was there, you'll never guess who walked into Quark's bar! None other than Rogue Harry Kim! And that means Lorca and the rest of his crew are here too! Now I know something is going on! First, I hand deliver encrypted files straight into Lorca's hand! Then he shows up right as my investigation leads me here. This is too coincidental. Either he knows something, or we're both being played by someone else.. someone who knows something about Starfleet's missing reinforcements. I'll need to proceed cautiously, and not just because of the Cardassians!
  • Science officer’s log, stardate 201116:

We finally made it to DS9! The first thing I did was swing by Quarks and have a good chat with him, he still thinks I cheat at tongo but he just doesn’t like to admit that i’m better than him. That night I had dinner at the klingon restaurant and caught up with my old friends Jadzia Dax and Captain Boday, a lot of good stories and good drinks that night. I bumped into an old friend from the academy too, Julian Bashir. I missed hearing about his love life stories all the time so it was nice to hear about that again! I stopped by Garak’s to pay him a visit, he was surprised to see me and said that he “thought I would have been killed in combat saving the ship in the last minute of an intense final battle by now.” I told him that our holodeck days were fair behind us. Rogue Harry Kim followed me around a bit, he doesn’t know how to leave well enough alone. I may have to teach him a lesson....

A new week without Portal Update

I was skimming through the list from the last portal update and was wondering just how far the cutoff would be, even it they updated today. The cutoff the last time was around four months pre-update and the list was long.
The ET packs would be huge and the odds terrible considering the number of 4/4 crew we got from events lately. The number of days since update in over 240, but the newest crew is over a year old. They may need A and B packs or two close together updates.

They would HAVE to announce if they planned updates close together. I would be furious if I opened 100 packs, only to have another update a week later.

They did have an Elusive Treasures pack a few months back. They might be able to get by with just one more ET pack. I remember this because I did not anticipate those SR's from my ET purchase taking up crew slots for this long. That is another pain point.

I spoke to Garak about my missing reinforcements before his shop opened today. He was adamant that he didn’t know anything about them. When I mentioned the ships, he said, “Yes, that’s quite intriguing, isn’t it?” He told me that I should not put too much stock into my theory about the Borg ships, though. Clearly he knows more than he was willing to tell me. He gave me the name of a contact on Cardassia Prime. I set course and we are en route now.

Garak told me that chasing reinforcements would not bring them to my ship any faster. He also told me that I should talk to Harry Kim about patience. After all, he spent 7 years as an ensign aboard Voyager without a promotion. About an hour later, Rogue Harry Kim showed up in my ready room wanting to discuss some files that he found at the communications relay in the gamma quadrant. I can’t help but think that Garak mentioned Harry because was the one who discretely passed the files to Mr. Kim. It was tempting to turn the ship around and corner Garak. I may need him in the future, however. It would be counterproductive to ruin what rapport I have with him.

We should make it to Cardassia Prime tomorrow. I’m still trying to get a communication to Damar, Garak’s contact on Cardassia Prime. I’ve had no luck contacting him as of yet.

I followed up with Rogue Harry Kim today. He seemed flustered. I couldn’t tell if he was talking about cracking the encryption or the Kraken from ancient Earth mythology. Something has been off about him lately. I’m growing concerned that either I’m demanding too much of him or he’s taking to much upon himself. The missing reinforcements are taking their toll.

On top of everything else, the Buran seems to be showing its age. It’s been in service for a long while now. The technology is starting to feel outdated. It just has a decrepit feel to it of late. Once the reinforcements arrive, I’m going to reduce work shifts and make sure the crew is getting adequate down time.
