We could INSTANTLY see what this would do to your player base. I'm one of the ones who actually benefits from the Picard, but so many of my friends and fleetmates worked SO hard to citation him. SO HARD!!!!! I'm not sure what's happening at the moment with the decision-making. Please take the Picard back from those who already used significant resources to Imm him, and give them a 5 of their choice. Please make some kind of a flow-chart so that you can slowly look at the implications of the decisions for different parts of your community. It would be so good if those decisions could honour your new players as well as those who have been with you for more than a year.
Don't want to be the devil's advocate but how is this different than giving Will Scarlet to people who spent 100$ on the offer to (try and) FF him?
You had 3 days to secure your rank in the galaxy part and the problem was the last 5-10 minutes? If you waited to cash in your rare items then this was a valuable lession.
This is like buying a game in full and then seeing it appear on a Steam offer for free. **tsk tsk**, but that's how it goes.
So thanks for the Picard, nice to have another immortalized 5*.
I ended up citing picard the last day of week 3 of the event, took me 4 or 5 months to get the honor great mistake lol. Ive been a monthly card player for over a year, bought extra packs and dilithium for the first time at the end of december and will never spend again until issue is resolved.

You apparently don't know how fast the ranks move at the end of a big event like this. Mine changed by 500 in the matter of minutes close to the end.

The difference is that mega event specific 5 star free characters are NOT guaranteed to be in future portal packs at all. There is express pressure applied to players to invest now or lose out on FF these characters.

The situations are VASTLY different. Picard was the mega-event legendary, and as has been the case with every mega event, DB explicitly communicated that there'd be NO way to get his 5th star. As such, people made buying decisions based on the underlying trust that DB would be true to its word.
Today's action was a direct violation of the trust players exercised in spending $$$ or Honor to give Picard his 5th star!

Worf was given out pretty much a year to the day of the event he featured in. This "compensation" was given out on the day the mega-event ended, a mega-event in which the vast majority of players knew they were guaranteed a 4/5* MJLP so would get a 5/5* by buying a citation or DYC. The circumstances are very different.

This was the EXACT reason i decided to cite picard btw
I think this blunder, as far as customer relations goes, tops all others. I mean, when you do something so obviously bone-headed as to piss off SilverRose...
Awful. I’m done. Not a penny more. No monthly card. No deals. I’m out. Playing with the crew I got and can get from here out. This was just a tone deaf f-u.
Wow. I've never been actually angry to get compensation for a screwup before.
A friend and I play together. We've been pretty loyal - we're up to VIP 10 over the long term, a bit here, a bit there. We're both really mad about this.
I paid $25 to FF Picard, knowing that I'd get 4 stars through playing reliably and continuously all month, and that the 5th star was a wise investment (as far as such things go). Now I'm going to have to airlock that $25? My friend used up a bunch of Honor points for the citation. The Honor he gets back from his airlock is nothing in comparison.
I can see what they were trying to do, but it really, really didn't work. I'd rather have received nothing. It feels like DB just threw my $25 back in my face.
If they _really_ wanted to build up good will - just give us a 5* citation to use as we wish. It's just pixels to DB, but it is real money to the people who spent it, and now have DB telling us that our money is worthless to them.
The idea that someone thought Mirror Picard was a good idea is just hilarious. If it had been Mirror Troi, it would have made sense, would have avoided 99% of the waste, and would have had maybe a (comparative) handful of tickets to respond to and easily resolvable.
How do they not realize the overwhelming majority of those actually trying, and therefor affected by the outage, would have already spent precious resources (cash or honor) to 5/5 Picard. The apology is worse customer service than the initial outage, and shows that those making these decisions don't actually play or understand the game economy or the players.
i add my voice to the people who are angry at this decision.it is wrong and unfair.it is dbs choice to fix it appropriately or not.they should consider the risks though , mainly people quitting on the game or stop buying stuff.and it is the buying part of players that is annoyed not the ftp players and they have every right to be. the thing i dont like in general is that in every event start or end, server problems occur.that is where the problem lies, the root cause ,and that is what should be addressed first in my mind .the playing field is faulty what comes after that is the backlash or whatever you may want to call it...
Also to add - I'm seeing some folks who are calling on how great of a move it is for the VIP0 community that the free Picard was given out... I know of at least 3 VIP0 players that used a very hard earned citation on Picard with that expectation that, as was previously the case in all past mega events, he would not be available through other means. Asking a VIP0 to eat 50,000 honor is absolutely infuriating. Those folks are as rightfully pissed off as the rest of us.
Anyone that spent money for a DYC offer should be going to Apple or Google for a refund. I highly recommend it. It's exactly what I'll be doing if they don't offer to exchange a worthless 1/5 Picard for a Legendary Citation.
This decision was beyond absurd. Like so many others, I spent $25 to double up on Mirror Picard during week number two of this Mega event. He did grant a nice bonus, yet at the same time, it would have not made much of a difference in regards to my success during the event as I had a lot of other bonus crew (especially this past weekend) if I left him alone and had him at max 4/5 once the month-long event ended earlier.
I spent more than normal this past week because I wanted to be the first to immortalize a Janeway and wanted Mirror Troi as well. I can easily close my wallet just like so many others here all because of this, excuse my French, horses***.
A CHOICE within the message sent out would have been so much better; choose Mirror Picard, a 5* Citation, or 50,000 Honor. The individuals that wanted to add another star to Picard could simply choose Picard. Those that wanted to add a star to another 5* within their roster because they already had Picard FF could have done so. Those that did not want to add another star to any 5* could have chosen the 50,000 Honor and either continued to save it or even bought a Legendary Behold to grab a 5* that they, perhaps, did not already have.
There are three ways to do something; the right way, the wrong way, and the Janeway.
I know of at least 3 VIP0 players that used a very hard earned citation on Picard with that expectation that, as was previously the case in all past mega events, he would not be available through other means.
I hate to put fuel on the fire... but can someone link me to where DB said that Mirror Picard would not ever be available in packs? It's mentioned several times in this thread but I don't remember seeing it in the lead-up to the event.
DB gave us a 5 star as form of compensation, that is actually something great!
The comments here about the use of citations and $25 double up offer to get the 5 star are legitimate and I hope DB is looking into this.
Send in ticket and wait.
I think DB or Shan could communicate what is more constructive for communications, sending in ticket or a few forum threads (mostly filled by bigotry).
I'm going to resurrect the DB:DB (DB: Do Better) tags for this event. I'd encourage everyone who is upset to do the same. I won't ask you to not spend. That's a personal call. But if you want change, the only surefire way to be heard is to disrupt the beam's revenue stream.

Perhaps they are writing a book on how to piss off customers

Again!! Mind you that's how U0 did it to get Apple and Pegi involved and changed the Pegi Rating from 7 to 12 and added "simulated gambling" on iOS

1. Someone pointed out this was absolutely stupid compensation and that person was ignored.
2. Nobody pointed it out and DB is actually that oblivious.
Neither option is a good sign for the future of this game.

It doesnt really cost them anything to give out a citation or behold here. Better to restore balance than to lose money...
