@Shan yes or no. Were we not told at the beginning of this mega event (after the trouble we have had before) that we will not be able to get this character after the event has finished? Surely that is false advertising, prompting a lot of people to purchase the DYS offer?
A 5* citation wouldn't help anyone who joined after they gave away Will Scarlett. I doubt that small group of players wouldn't have thought twice about a citation popping up in their mail, or nearly so passionate about the outage
A Mirror Picard will help even LESS to those people that joined after that giveaway. Because if they didn't got even one Picard from event (in which case 5* citation would be equal) they are stuck with Com/Sec 1/5 that they would not get other stars ever unless they'll... oh wonder! buy citations.
I'm going to resurrect the DB:DB (DB: Do Better) tags for this event. I'd encourage everyone who is upset to do the same. I won't ask you to not spend. That's a personal call. But if you want change, the only surefire way to be heard is to disrupt the beam's revenue stream.
Makes no difference what compensation they send out some you will still **tsk tsk**, if DB is learning anything from this it should be not give any compensation to anyone in circumstance like this since everyone was affected by game outage, anyone who didn't get to turn in their bonus items have no one to blame but themselves
I didn’t take any of the double offers so I am not unhappy, but I get why some people are. I think the better idea would have been a free legendary behold if they wanted to award it as compensation. That being said DB doesn’t give out legendaries so this is some big compensation.
For those people who were affected in other ways the same process needs to be followed but filing tickets.
No, it’s not ‘big compensation’, it’s an utterly cynical attempt to look generous while giving out something that will be completely useless to a lot of players.

I was not planning on spending money this week at all, but I will gladly extend that notion into the coming weeks if necessary.

Thank you for responding Shan, question to you... as a player...
if you had spent $25 or 50K honor to get the 5th star for Picard,
And then received the extra copy with the comment within the email
"On a more serious note, please accept our apologies for the technical difficulties we experienced earlier today"
would you have
1 - Felt this copy was part of the apology,
2 - Would you feel satisfied or at all frustrated as what seems to be a vast majority of your customer base on this forum? for a "gift" to the rest of the customer base which you paid for with real $ or with hard earned in game currency?(Honor points)

Why didn't you hand out a 5* citation so that everybody could promote a crew member of their choice?
The idea of a free Mirror Picard was great and generous for 99% of the playerbase who can FF them now for free and probably get their first FF 5*. But in the same time your most loyal and paying 1% of the community feels ripped off .

In other words, we got what we got, and that's that. It takes me along time to save up 50,000 honor. Gonna take even longer now that you've convinced me to stop spending money.
DB gave us a 5 star as form of compensation, that is actually something great!
The comments here about the use of citations and $25 double up offer to get the 5 star are legitimate and I hope DB is looking into this.
Send in ticket and wait.
I think DB or Shan could communicate what is more constructive for communications, sending in ticket or a few forum threads (mostly filled by bigotry).
I am optimistic they will do the right thing.
They are format responding to the tickets telling people to kick rocks, hence the outrage.

The answer is for DB to simply apologize for the tone deaf gift, acknowledging how those who paid for the extra Picard would feel. Then, give a free 50,000 honor so players can buy whatever they'd like - it's digital currency, doesn't cost DB a thing, and appeases the portion of the player base that spends the most money in the game. Wins all around.

Not even. There are free-to-play players that used the Honor they had tirelessly saved up over the months to FF him prior to the event ending. You also have players who splurged a little bit and spent that $25 (or whatever it may convert to in other currencies) to FF him prior to the event ending. Considering the 4/5 5* has been a stable of Mega events since the concept's inception back in May, it was expected by everyone that the same thing would happen; that the fifth star would need to be obtained via spending money or Honor. It was not just us big-spenders who felt the kick to the gut.

I see, even small or first time spenders feel ripped off now, because after they spent money for the first time or in a rare occasion, the thing they payed for gets handed out for free a few weeks later. Not much reason for them to pay again for something any time in the future. So it has even a bad effect for this customer segment. Great point!

i still don't get the logic of offering Picard because you missed out on Troi ....
This is akin to sitting on the branch you want to trim off the tree ....
I think it was intended to be a surprise gift originally..
Not the best idea given that anyone who hadn't claimed their rewards for this event could easily have claimed him, trigger a double up offer and paid for him seconds prior to the in game mail.
I don't think it was originally intended as a comp for the event and tried to 2 for 1 it..
As time goes on and I think more about this, read more about this from everyone posting all eyes are largely on the Picard, the money they spent or honor used..
I really do value the original intention and original motivation of the Picard..
But the gift and the comp should have remained separate.
On the gift side, it either should have been announced prior or given this way at the very start of the event.. alternatively perhaps a second picard Star placed in a threshold at 60,000 during event 1.
This event ending being botched should be treated as a separate issue but because of the sloppy and obvious attempt to 2 for 1 the picard star they have become interlinked.
The proper compensation should without question be a copy of M Troi.
1000's of players were affected by this on some level or another.
Ranging from bragging rights of I placed 5th instead of 6th, hahaha !
To player ranking 1001 with an Immortalized mirror picard, missing the Troi due to error on the server.
I benefitted from this, I got the picard.. I likely would have citationed him in a couple days..
But looking at him, all I see is what could have been if I'd taken another path, and see the reaction from those here that did.
Originally, I do believe it was well intentioned..
But I don't think all the ramifications were thought out and players who missed out on troi are boned the hardest (especially if already having Picard 5/5)
I am glad I benefitted,
But I could have easily been 1001 and I'd be here rightfully with pitchforks based on the CS reply being reported.
Normally Id players are kind of screwed in these situations but recently the Battlefront 2 loot box issue gives me cause for hope. While a seperate issue, players gathered a voice, boycotted and were able to make the company change.
When peole feel cheated out of real money, its never a feeling you want your customers to have
We need better solutions for compensation, and working on that is one of our goals for 2018.
You need to think things through, rather than rush out an apology.
You need to think of the negative consequences of your actions.
Next time you screw up big time, why not ask your player base what they think, or give a choice of compensation.
On a previous screw up, you gave us dilithium. If a voyage had blown up, we could recover it, or use it elsewhere. This is a generic gift, something useful anywhere.
A five star citation would have been perfect. 99.9% of the player base could have used it. Even a four star citation would have been good.
Instead you did not think things through, and awarded something that would annoy those who have already paid for it in the belief that it was the only way to get it.
You have at least 100,000 regular players. If 5% bought a $25 mirror picard, then you were paid $125,000 for that alone in the event. Those 5% are the ones paying your wages, not the free to play players.
Do you think those 5% will make the same mistake next event?

By the time the issues began, most people who were working the event at least up to getting Picard already had him, so I honestly do not understand either. If they had given out Troi instead, I would have had much better use for her as I have one 2/5 along with one that is immortal (last pack pulls I expected at least one Janeway to add stars to the fourth, but instead both were Troi lol). The best use I have of anything would be 50,000 Honor as that would give me just enough for the new Honor Hall 5* they are planning to release this month.
There are three ways to do something; the right way, the wrong way, and the Janeway.
What DB doesnt seem to realise is that giving everyone a Picard isnt compensation for those affected by the outage, since we are not playing against DB but each other. If I say loose 150 dil on cadet tickets and they give everyone 150 dil, Im still 150 short against those not affected. DB doesnt even seem to understand the basic fundamentals of games.
Makes no difference what compensation they send out some you will still ****, if DB is learning anything from this it should be not give any compensation to anyone in circumstance like this since everyone was affected by game outage, anyone who didn't get to turn in their bonus items have no one to blame but themselves
Cause ya know, the game shutting down for 20 minutes before the event ends was listed in the itinerary and Is entirely the fault of the players.
This is just beyond any words....i wasted 25 bucks on my main and 50k honor = 1 legendary citadation on my alt account to get my mirror Picard 5/5; just to now find a free 1/5 in my mail. Well played DB well played....
EDIT: Would have made more sense to give out a free Mirror Troi, cause some ppl prob missed out on getting an extra copy by not being able to play last minutes of the event. Best solution woud have been a free legendary citadation though.
On another note, I feel bad for Shan who has to hear the brunt of the complaints here. Shan, we know it isn't your fault. Just remember the frustration is not pointed at you.
Even if the free copy of Mirror Picard was originally intended as a "gift", I for one would still be outraged to the degree that I currently am. Even as a gift, I would have still have wasted honor to get him FF as there was no notice given for when I might be able to get the last copy of Mirror Picard. Same goes for all of the other mega event free 5 star characters.
