If the Klingons could have shown more facial expressions and spoken clearly
I remember thinking that after the Binary Stars two-parter - not even so much the makeup (I mean a lot of it's just exaggerating what Klingons already had, like how the Borg got souped up in First Contact), but the spoken Klingon fell really flat for me. Granted Klingon's been a real thing for decades, so it's not entirely just a case of jumping on the bandwagon of sci-fi/fantasy making up languages just to impress everyone, but they really needed to hire whoever hangs around the Game of Thrones crew and advises them on speaking convincing gibberish. Credit where it's due, L'Rell wrangled her Klingon well in a couple of the later episodes, but T'Kuvma was basically just barking out every syllable on its own - maybe nobody bothered sitting down with him and running him through the full five-week Khal Drogo School For Sounding Like You Know What You're Saying since he was only around for a few scenes, but having the guy basically driving the plot on day one be as emotive as an automated supermarket checkout really hurt the premiere.
I'm hoping we see a lot more Klingons speaking English, basically. If they build more mobility into the makeup that's great too, but I feel like the main thing is if you've got a Klingon on set for two days to shoot scenes for one episode, don't saddle the poor petaQ with having to hit Dany levels of foreign language fluency fifteen minutes after seeing the script for the first time.
Piece of trivia. James Doohan was a linguist. He actually creatd the Klingon and Vulcan dialog for The Motion Picture. A college professor of linguistics created Dothraki. They need someone for this show who can create a believable language, and teach people how to speak it.
Doohan and a producer created a few lines in Klingon for TMP. Okrand was hired by Paramount to essentially develop the Klingon language and teach the actors to speak it for III, V and VI, he wrote the Klingon dictionary, developed some Vulcan and Romulan lines for the 2009 film, and created the Kelpian language (or at least what little of it was needed) for Saru's mini-episode. He also created the Atlantean language for a Disney movie.
It's my understanding that the Klingon spoken in Discovery is closer to the pronunciation described in the Okrand's Klingon dictionary.
Wow RNG was sucky the last weeks, but today perfectly made up for that. Basically "only" wanted one Section 31 Philippa Georgiou to complete her during the event. While in 5 10 pulls none dropped it gave me 1 Garak and 4x Chancellor L'Rell. Together with the copy I got from the last event she will be FE/FF soon
opinions if philippa will have mirror universe trait? wondering if I should be running some Terran shuttles.
From working on her up through level 50 or so, I'm not seeing a lot of Terran items. I am seeing a mountain of isolinear rods, though, so that’s going to be rough.
I've got enough honor for two citations. I never cited Kortar, and now we've got Kol. I think instead I'll put these last two citations on High Roller Sisko and finish him. :-)
I’m hoping that there will be some fairly new Disco crew as thresholds and lower level achievement rewards. Once the VP structure changed to nosebleed high levels to meet all thresholds, I’m struggling with even meeting thresholds on faction events. So, the gold crew in the 1500 place range aren’t even a concern for me, since I won’t be achieving that level for a while. Anyway, I find the new VP/reward structure very frustrating.
I'd love for us to get some new 2* Crew. Got everyone but the EMH from Honour Hall done.
Not me. I have all of them cryo'd and it's nice not using resources on them, or having them use crew slots.
"Done" = "Immortalized & Frozen"
I may have been unclear.
"The truth is like a lion; you don't have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself."
Bridge Officer Number One: CMD/DIP/ENG
Kol of House Kor: CMD/DIP/SEC
Section 31 Philippa Georgiou: CMD/DIP/SEC
L'Rell: DIP/SEC
Also: calling her "Bridge Officer Number One" definitely leaves room for more versions to enter the game later.
Nice.... except after the addition of warpable cadets it's hard to get excited about 2*'s anymore
Oh, I still love two and even one star characters. New cards, easy to level, help you with immortalizing achievements, fun versions of characters...bring 'em on, DB!
This. Any Event that drops a new 2* is great. Consider the people starting out. Maybe they can't Warp Cadets yet. Maybe they CAN get 750 Points to FF a new 2* that will most likely have good Stats, with the power creep. Adding a 2* might not help everyone. But it likely WILL help SOMEONE
Even if it does not help it is a fun new avatar and a chance for a non whale to be first to immortalize a crew card.
It'll be my first L'Rell. So there is that, too.
"The truth is like a lion; you don't have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself."
Quoted the wrong comment lol... I dunno what I'm doing so I'll just edit this....
I've got her to 70 and only saw one 1* terran emblam so she's not as bad as expected.... A metric ton of isolinear rods though

I miss when the recurring Mega cards were outstanding. Hasn't been that way since Ru'afo.
That mega-event was in August, that wasn't that long ago. December's mega-event gave us Etana Jol, who happens to be a pretty decent engineering card in her own right. Two of the last three mega-events have given us strong engineers, remember when everyone was yearning for strong engineering cards?
I'd argue of all the mega-event recurring 5*s, T'Kuvma and Minuet are the two weakest of the lot. The rest have all been fairly useful.

(First, I want to thank Shan for making this post possible. A strange technical glitch botched up my account, and Shan essentially had to rebuild it. It has been about two weeks of back and forth before Shan was able to do this. Thank you Shan, for what I know was tons of hard work. I truly appreciate being back on.)
The post I wanted to make almost two weeks ago, was simply this:
I understand what DB is trying to do with ST:D. I am sure that they have mandates from on high, designed to keep propping up ST:D. ...and I'm not going to get into all of the things that are wrong with the show, we all know what those things are.
But please understand that many of us don't even count it as a Star Trek show. I instantly airlock anything STD-related as soon as I detect it. Many of us have -0- characters for this event, and -0- interest in the characters offered. Thats 4 weeks that my wallet is closed. I'm VP12, and I will be spending that money on the new Star Trek game, not here.
The problem with that, is I LIKE it here! (You guys COULD have thrown us the original Number One, as a bone.)
The idea that STD will get more viewers by attempting to force us to collect STD cards is wishful thinking. I suspect the ifea comes from CBS and not DB, for this approach only hurts the game. It's an expensive price to pay for the 2-3 traditional Star Trek fans who will pony up the fee to watch ST:D.
I just came from a convention, The places where I have been spending the bulk of my Star Trek money for 40 years, and my personal, unscientific poll shows a lack of interest in ST:D among those who attend Star Trek conventions. These people, like me, spend a lot of money at these places.
You might not want to completely shut us out. I'm just sayin'
That critisism aside, I have found the customer service here to be top notch. You guys all rock. Thank you again Shan !

They already announced a new chekov will be included for those resistant to change.
In my professional experience those who were viewers of TOS when it aired are of an age group more likely to be resistant to change.

TOS viewers didn't consider TNG real Trek. TNG viewers had issues with DS9. Plenty of people had issues with ENT.
For any new Star Trek show there will be fans who reject it and refuse to consider it canon.
Yes if you airlocked every Discovery crew it **tsk tsk** for you this month, but if you don't like DS9 and airlocked DS9 crew then you would have had issues in the DS9 mega event.
The point of a mega event is to have a 4 week connected event with a single theme. It **tsk tsk** when you don't like that theme, but unless DB makes it a generic theme outside of a series there will always be someone unhappy with it.
And as was mentioned, there will be non-Discovery characters showing up too.

If you don´t like it you don´t like it. That is your personal taste after all. But I think you are making some wrong conclusions here. Cause what is STD?
Exactly, the first Star Trek television show in many many years. Your dislike aside the show which revived the franchise for TV. And it is only the start of things with the Picard/Animated/Georgiou series coming up. There were far worse times to be a Star Trek fan than the current one.
Until than this game was mainly about nostalgia which you prefer, now through it we have some fresh air as bonus to that. For you that air is polluted, but you can also only do so many variants of things past.
So variety wise it is a good thing. Also it could bring new costumers, new Star Trek fans into the game (which can only be good for the longterm prospects of this game). For me that is why DB is "playing this card". And I cherish the effort they put in. New look Chancellor L´Rell before her TV debut? Well done DB...
Also DB is paying for the licence, not gets payed. So the influence of CBS is not as mighty as you probably think. Also you said you like it here. So you instantly airlocking all Discovery cards indeed shows your dislike, but gaming wise is not that well thought out. Some cards are simply a means to an end. And it could well be that at one point you need a wagonload of STD characters to up your chances to get a card you really want. Like say in a Faction event.
Also since the userbase of this game is kinda small, your thought that the vieving ratings will go up by forcing us to collect STD cards makes no sense really. More like getting the revenue of this game up by adding a recent series.
Hate Discovery all you want, but STTwise be a little flexible and you will enjoy this game even more.
But please understand that many of us don't even count it as a Star Trek show.
Unfortunately for you, the people who currently own the franchise do consider it to be Star Trek. It might not be what you want from Trek, but that doesn't make it less Trek. This isn't even a "you're entitled to your opinion" kind of thing - straight up, it's Star Trek. You don't have to like it - that's obviously your prerogative - but you don't get to decide what is or isn't Star Trek. The people who own Trek do, and by calling it "Star Trek" they've made that decision.
As for your theory of them losing customers because of Discovery - I came upon this game because of advertising during the first Disco mega, and I suspect I'm not alone. I'm also well into being VP 14. It's also far more likely that DB's Disco megas are more about DB cashing in on what CBS is airing than the other way around.
Enjoy spending your money on that other Star Trek game - but don't be surprised if/when they decide to start cashing in on Discovery as well.

Hate Discovery all you want, but STTwise be a little flexible and you will enjoy this game even more.
