Is that what makes you happy? A free card? A datafile that disappears when this game gets closed? Come on, go out and get a life!
Is that what makes you happy? A real life? Something that will disappear when you die? Come on, become a Buddhist!
(I just wanted to point out the fact that the difference between ‘real’ life and ‘virtual’ life is not that big as many tend to think. Especially when ‘virtual’ life involves large amounts of real money, it’s easy to understand why people so upset about something that is merely a record in a database)
Hehehe, nice one! But at least the life should be longer as a datafile from DB............... and even if I became looking more like a Buddha in the last years as a Jesus , I am an atheist. So no thanks;-)
It escapes me why everyone is that upset about what someone else gets. I am just sincerely happy for them. My pleasure playing the game is derived solely from the way I play this game, and what someone else gets or doesn't get doesn't affect that. I haven't got that Kirk yet, but I will someday somehow simply by playing. Would you all be so upset if you hadn't read about this?
I don't see any reason for DB to compensate the community at large.
/me ducks to avoid the flames.
This is my point of view on this. I spend about $400 a month on this game getting the various characters and packs that I want. Then for DB to come and give a select few people one, and in some cases two, copies of a yellow card that essentially equals giving a person $25 is kind of insulting to me as a cash player. It makes me feel unvalued as a player. Take it however you want but that's just my 2 cents.

Somehow your $400/month makes your two cents look a little shinier than my $35/month two cents.
Im sure DB will do something, because unlike Annorax, too many people have been affected. It will most likely be some knee jerk reaction, like it usually is, that will most likely make it worse, but they will do something;)
I also think people are over dramatizing the effect this will have on the game as a whole, db gives freebies all the time on purpose, I mean look at Mambo Picard, granted that was to everyone, but I don't see it shift the entire game lol. Is it fair? no, will it forever alter the space time continuum as we know it? probably not
P.S. pretty sure we all know by now, that DB doesn't work weekends, or at least has a skeleton crew hehe

I know right? The one person made it sound like from now on the only event winners will be people who got a free Kirk.

This whole incident has me somewhat weary, not because of an apparent DB mess-up but rather thanks to the people here that are throwing temper tantrums over something that is ultimately not that big of a deal. Even for the event where Survivalist Kirk was an important crew to have, his overall impact on the event was still less than that of the event crew themselves.
And for those whining about how they spent money on something others got for free...that’s something that you’re going to have to live with in this game. Crew that cost a king’s ransom in dil, cash, time, or other resources are bound to become available as free gifts (intentional or not), discounted deals, threshold rewards, or lucky drops in random packs in the future - the money you spent gave you early access, that’s all...if you can’t derive satisfaction from that value, you’re going to have a hard time as this game progresses into year four and beyond. It’s like elsewhere in technology - you never want to be the last person to buy the last generation’s gadget at full price; if you are, however, you shouldn’t get mad at the people buying something better at the same price or the same thing at a lower price.
It really isn't that serious, if you wanted the silly butter kirk that badly than just rank in the event like everyone else did? I didn't lose sleep over not getting him the first time around, really not going to now. My voyages and events seem to be just fine without him.

I don’t think he was a ranked reward in an event, but available in packs. Not 100% on that , so if I am incorrect, hopefully someone can correct that notion.

You are right , it was added to portal pack and staff favorite packs, according to timelines,

That card was also featured in a U$D 10 limited time offer. 🖖🏻

Wasn’t Mambo Picard Tuesday pack only where you could spend $500 getting one then they gave him free? No one needed any Kleenex for that. If it wasn’t him I’m sure it has happened
The difference is that giving everyone a free card lessens the universal impact over giving select people one or two stars. I had butter Kirk FF and I'm not "crying" about him being a giveaway. I brought this up because it seems unfair to give to some and not all.

It should be brought up, but some are being a bit over-dramatic regarding the impact. People got a free ammorax from a glitch with packs, which to me is even more out of balance, since people who spent the exact same amount of money on the same exact offer received less benefit, and nothing was done.
Either way I think we should hold off on the pitchforks till db actually responds, come monday.

This. It’s perfectly fine to ask how this happened and what, if anything, will be done to rectify the imbalance. Saying “I’m never spending money again because someone else got something for free that I had to pay for” is something entirely different.

I love the threat of not buying the monthly card. NO!!!! Not your $4 a month! Anything but that!!

Wasn't like that was the first time something like that happened. It was the third time that I can recall an offer giving out an unadvertised 5* by mistake.
I have Kirk 1/5 from the 9.99 deal a while back.
I did not get Kirk from the mail.
Do I believe not having a free Kirk would impact my experience as a VIP 0? Certainly.
Do I believe not having a free Kirk impacts my experience as a VIP 14? No.
Nobody is winning events anymore without spending thousands or saving up resources for 8-12 months. Yes, having or not having Butter doesn’t matter for many of us in terms of event play.
However, the issue many have isn’t about Butter Kirk. The issue is DB regularly makes mistakes that often creates real issues, or imbalances, that impact players. Butter Kirk, Annorax, Data, Extra Time Boosts, Musketeer LaForge, Portal updates that only have Augmented Riker, Polywaters and events that need pulled, etc. It’s sloppy. And sloppiness is interpreted as not caring. And for people who invest a lot into the game, either money or time or both, they are tired of the constant stream of sloppy mistakes because it seems like DB just doesn’t care enough in a way that respects the way that it’s players (and their money) care about the game. That’s what’s frustrating to many of us.
Today, as I was shirking other adult responsibilities, I logged into one of my approximately 957 game accounts and was pleasantly surprised to find a free Survivalist Kirk awaiting me. He's a good card. Good arena, rare skill mix for a Kirk, and solid in gauntlet. So, a true trifecta of usefulness - which is usually not the case at all in DB giveaways. I was excited. I was going to come here and thank you.
But, you just had to be DB about it. See, my other 263 accounts did not have a Survivalist Kirk waiting in the game mail. I don't know why this one account was special. Did it run away and join the Amish when I wasn't looking?
So, what gives. Kirk for some and not for all? Be fair and give everyone the butter they deserve.

Probably both.
Depends if you have to go work with hay before you butter your toast, or after.
Hopefully there’s a butter result once DB gets this sorted.
