I wonder why I cannot retrieve Commanding Officer Sisko (rare) despite for having a rare polestar and yesterday someone in UC told me that Commanding Officer Sisko was added to the game via a claim in 2018, which was a whole year or even longer before I started to play this game.
So, what is the point of having a rare polestar when I cannot retrieve the last rare crew I need to have just to make the rare crew collection complete.
The way I see it I can just retrieve any rare crew then disband it, just for the sake of using the rare polestar.
CO Sisko is only available via achievements and is not in the portal. Non portal crew can not be retrieved.
But in this case, he should be. It would provide the needed way to immortalize him. That would be my #1 request for this new feature.
I'm thinking very hard on who to go for.
*snip*
Do anyone know if we can retrieve with no slots. If he just has to wait 16 hrs to come in, that is no problem.
Yes, you can. Both of the 2* crew I retrieved for the achievement went in to my overflow.
Crew Retrieval is the most confusing convoluted feature added to date. You have to spend a lot of resources just to hope to narrow it down to a specific crew member, and then what you usually end up with is a crew member you already have! This has got to be the biggest waste of time and money for players. It adds new resources you have to keep track of with ridiculous names like "polestars". The game was better without this added mess.
It’s not a mess, it’s quite easy to understand if you take a bit of time. If you are ending up with crew you already have and didn’t want to get, you are either taking a chance with RNG to reduce costs or not doing it right.
It's a matter of opinion. I don't need three more resources to keep track of. I was excited to finally have the ability to get crew that I have been waiting for, but in order to make sure you get it you have to spend way too much money. Again, all this does is benefit Tilting Point by bringing in more money for them.

You need to use specific Trait, Rarity, and Skill Polestars to narrow the Pool. If you have the right ones, a lot of Crew pools can be narrowed down to one specific Crew, with four or less Polestars.

EDIT: Just realized you are trying for Limited Crew. They cannot be retrieved.

It shouldn’t be costing you anything unless you are buying Quantum with Dil or the current credits offer. That said, you do have to be patient as the accrual rate for Quantum is slow.

If you airlocked him you can contact customer support and they will give him back to you. But if you have him and want to immortalize him, you will need to cite him up with rare citations from the Honor Hall.

I didn't understand why they added 'constellations' it seems like an extra, unnecessary step. Why not just drop straight 'polestars'?
Probabilities. With only polestars and no constellations there would be 2 ways to go:
1. Every trait aka polestar would be equally likely to drop. Welcome to Tholian Prisoner and Bynar land.
2. Every trait was weighted with its actual use in the game. This would be best of course. But with every new crew added they had to adjust the new probabilities for all traits. I think they have a similar problem with portal updates and therefore hate to make them.
So they made every crew equally likely to drop as a constellation as an intermedium step, which makes the system much easier to maintain.

It wasn't A temporary achievement to get him, like Luau Paris or Adira. It is a personal achievement. He's the reward you get when you set a captain name for yourself the first time. You get one from that and have to cite him up. If you are still simply "Captain", and, I doubt you are, give yourself a name and you will get him. If you have already done it and discarded him by accident, message customer service to replace him.

Opinion: Quantum regenerates far too slowly and/or there are not enough ways to get quantum
I dont have an issue with the recharge rate - we aren't meant to be using this daily, lest it would unbalance the game. But I do hope they introduce ways to get it faster, notably through the new ranked rewards they've been toting, to make it easier to accrue.
I was able to get Fury Kes with Prodigy+Brutal. For some reason Brutal already dropped 3 times for me, so I didn't even have to wonder if I was missing out on someone else.
Not sure if my next retrieval should be a first star for Dark Empath Troi or the last star on Irina.
But so far I'm enjoying the feature. Now that we got the 19 constellations, it's actually fun to use.
Even if it wasn't planned, I think it was a good idea to hand them all out at once, since having a lot of them sitting in the inventory is how the feature will work for most of us most of the time. We'll accumulate polestars, make plans and look at new combinations whenever we get a new one.
The only thing I'm disappointed with, is how difficult it will be to target crew with very common traits and skills.
And it would be nice to have a specific reliable way to obtain skill and rarity constellations. Ranked rewards and campaigns sound like a good option and I hope they will implement it soon
I am actually OK with the recharge time. Spend 900 quantum and 5M creds for a legendary crew, minus some Polestars. It will take me about 14 days to get those 5 M creds back and scan enough to get some more Polestars... So yeah - I'm good.
There are some crew that are just impossible to narrow to "guaranteed", but again I'm OK with it.
Was sceptical to begin with, but now it's implemented, I feel the balance is about right for me.

I’m glad to see that the mood seems to have turned regarding Crew Retrieval. Confusing at first, people not liking the name, phased rollout.
I wish the whole ban kurfluffle didn’t happen, but if the result was lots of extra ISN, constellations, and a quantum bump that gave us all a chance to get another crew, then it seems to have brought more clarity for those of us who stuck around.
I’ve gotten a LEG and an SR (both guaranteed, one choice, options)— along with Data Q— and I only spent 90 dil (as noted earlier it is a way to goose the quantum rate while using the what the monthly card supplies). And I didn’t spend dil until after I retrieved the crew.
The quantum rate is slow, but is probably a wise move. We all want who we want, but to get them faster than every 2-3 weeks may cause an imbalance.

Agreed. Given its complexity. it made sense to start things off rather confined. Now that things are starting to settle in, getting an influx of quantum and constellations really helped cement the system.
Going after my first legendary was experimental. Going after the second was fun.
I view the system as an improvement on beholds. There's still a lot of RNG, but there's far more player control. Right now, I could roll the dice for some of the crew on my wishlist. However, I'd prefer to roll the dice on constellations, and spend my quantum on surefire pulls. I am hoping there's eventually some means of burning unwanted polestars, and maybe purchasing specific polestars (preferred) or constellations.
I think STT has historically had an issue where it's too difficult to get the crew you want. The few times I've recommended it to friends, that question always came up, and it was always a dealbreaker. This being said, if it's too easy to get the crew you want, that causes problems as well.

After a confusing rollout, I'm really enjoying this feature. It's fun to go in and play with the polestars, see who you could get and figure out which poles you're missing to get the crew you really want. It's also an efficient way to save for an honor sale, as it gives you another way to add stars to (most) existing crew.
It's a shame I'll always associate it with Bangate.
I am hugely enjoying this new feature. I find it fun to use and plan with, and the time limits imposed for using it are about right. In particular, much better than waiting for begolds. When I (over!)think about it, the use of quantum to limit players and encourage longer term planning; the balance between polestar retrieval’s with additional scans; the targeting via traits; as well as the randomness introduced from constellations -> polestars, it’s quite an elegant system! A tough one to conceive and implement, but pleasantly surprised with the result. Excellent work WRG. Hopefully the updated reward tables can further enhance this system. And an honour sale to cite all my shiny new crew please

I have enjoyed spending time seeking out the possibilities. I think the big block for me will be getting the 5* polstar. There are several combinations I could pull right now that give me good choices and good odds, minus the 4* or 3* stuck in the group.

Yeah I think it is interesting. Checking combos and what you need. Thinking about what you can get. I think that is fun and something to do. So many crew in portal are just unobtainable.
From what I see the real challenge is going to be getting interesting polestars. Like yesterday I got musician which opened up a good single choice.
The other bottleneck for me will be ISM - getting only 100 or 200 a day. This will be much slower for me than the quantum replenishes (which is clearly not the way it's intended to work). So at most it will be one use a month to 6 weeks. Which I guess is ok. The superfleet v. non discrepancy does irritate me. Maybe they will add a lot more ISM for individuals when they see that it is more of a bottleneck than Quantum (ie dilithium ie. $$$).
