Something about the Vulcan wearing sunglasses just fumes me.... Not sure why
It annoys me. I'm waiting for an explanation.
Aren't Remans sensitive to light? With her being a Romulan double-agent, I wonder if she has some Reman blood in her?
I've enjoyed Picard so far. It started out a little slow and seems to delight in putting the screws to as many nostalgic characters as possible, but I think it has potential.

I've not known Romulans to perform a mind meld. Maybe I missed something there. Sorry if that's a spoiler. I find myself wondering if she's half Romulan and half Vulcan.

That could be too. I just assumed since Romulans are technically Vulcans, they could have the same abilities if practiced. Or she's just "Neo" cool.
"Star Trek is a formula. It's not my idea, it's not your idea, it's not Paramount's idea. It's Gene Roddenberry's idea of the 24th century, and it's very important for me to remember that. Not because I'm 'faithful to Gene's legacy,' as people love to write; it's because that's what Star Trek is. To change that is to not be doing Star Trek anymore."
Roddenberry's creation is a hopeful, idealistic, and arguably absurd view of the future: an era in which racism and poverty have been vanquished, and mankind combs the cosmos with a smile and a shoeshine. This vision is the genome that has defined Star Trek for three decades.
It's a DNA string with an infinite potential for variation - but an unwavering premise. (rick berman 1996 wired magazine)
picard is in NO way star trek
By that measure, neither is DS9.
from the same article. "When Michael Piller and I created Deep Space Nine, we said to ourselves, 'We gotta be able to generate some conflict from inside our cast.' We wanted that, but we didn't want to break Gene's rule. We decided that the conflict would come from within our characters - but not from the Starfleet humans. So we brought along Odo, a grouchy security officer, and we brought along Quark, a shifty Ferengi. And we put all these people on Deep Space Nine, which is an inhospitable environment.
"That was a way of bending Gene's rule without breaking it. And we do that every day. We do it with the language that's used, with the way stories are told, and with what stories we decide to tell. And if we find a story that's based on something Gene felt very strongly about, it becomes a big limitation."
there are no limitations on picard.the language is foul. seems every episode has murder in it.the show is not about seeking out new life and civilizations so where are they trekking to exactly and which new civilization have they encountered?.it has no science which can inspire people to become scientists or doctors etc.remember how many people have stories about becoming engineers or scientists or doctors because of star trek?.someone who watches picard will absolutely not be inspired to pursue any such profession unless one counts dissecting humans as sth close to medicine. apart from that even as a tv show it is a boring ripoff of sci fi tropes and other series such as and not limited to the terminator, star wars (cantina scene lasers, han solo etc) blade runner etc..the plot is moving at a lethargic pace and has no purpose .i mean picard (spoilers but this is a spoiler thread) has in fact saved soji why doesnt he take her back to starfleet and the daystrom institute?,why do they have to go this planet where maddox created her?maddox is dead.oh i forgot the elf from middle earth that beheads senators at will and that romulans keep disruptors in their pockets while using swords and hang out in western town bars for 14 years doing nothing but having a sign that says "romulans only" (in english) whilst the entire population is romulan.also in the measure of the man episode the whole point was to decide against creating artificial intelligence as a race and that they did .it was decided end of story.i could go on and on about how this show is not star trek and what a bad tv show it actually is but i ll stop here.fine if someone doesnt get what star trek stands for but i can say my opinion as well and i will stick to rewatching the old shows. this is absolutely not star trek and doesnt stand to logic in the least amount.
I could not agree more, on this show apart from the characters itself there is nothing that indicates to me that this is star trek.
I had another thought on the Picard mega. It will be pretty light on bonus crew unless it is planned properly. Using cast from previous shows to bolster bonus crew is the approach that I would take. Here's one possibility:
Week 1:
Akimbo Seven™️, Facer Rios, and existing Spock variant
Week 2:
Pizza Chef Riker, Commander Raffi, and existing Janeway variant
That's just one way to do it. It could be tweaked for sure. But that would be one way to make some measure of bonus crew would be included.
Hmmm I see a lot of merits go through the chimney in this scenario. I hope for a common trait to help bolstering the crew. We still have a bunch of mega-virgin-traits with plenty of crew who carry them.

Has there been a Cyberneticist mega event? That was kind of central to the show and it could bolster some numbers.
My current theory on Commodore Oh is that she is half Vulcan and half Romulan so she can do mind melds enough to show images to someone else but not read their mind. But yes many are bothered by her sunglasses on the Picard Facebook pages.

I still think Director Hugh (MED/ENG/CMD) would be the best recurring legendary. Between who he is -- the first Borg after Picard to be successfully separated from the collective -- and his ground-breaking work both make him a legend (if that even matters in this game). Plus, you could use him as part of a plot with the Borg to add in a Borg bonus trait for the mega event since we don't have many ST Picard bonus crew yet. (Maybe the Borg faction want to re-assimilate the Ex-Bs?)
But for those who prefer Sunglasses Oh, I think there's a great argument that her skill set includes CMD/MED/SEC -- in some order. The MED is for how she mentally manipulated Jurati -- sort of the evil version of what Counselor Troi does (or even Sybok). I read that one of the producers suggested she wore the sunglasses as part of an intimidation/manipulation tactic with Dr. Jurati. That actually seems the most . . . logical . . . explanation. As for her Vulcan/Romulan affiliation, she's clearly at least part Vulcan. Wouln't it be cool if her traits included Zhat Vash/Tal Shiar and Vulcan? We've seen Vulcans go bad before -- once certain premises are accepted, logic can lead to some cold, cruel decisions.
I've voice my support for Director Hugh as the recurring legendary either in this thread or another already, but I'll repeat it here. I would look forward to acquiring another copy of him each week more than I would anyone else on the show so far.
As for Commodore Oh, there haven't been any Romulans to perform a mind meld canonically, but I'm also unaware of it being stated canonically that they can't. Even among Vulcans, it's always been nebulous and served whatever story purpose was needed. The movies used it to resurrect Spock. TNG used it as a data dump for Sarek so he could organize his thoughts. Hell, Spock once melded with Nomad. It seemed routine until ENT made up that it had been stigmatized into obscurity for centuries. There's really no reason they can't canonically establish that Romulans can perform them and we just haven't seen one do it. Though I kinda find the idea of Oh being a Vulcan collaborating with/being part of the Zhat Vash more interesting.
Commodore Oh did not have to read Dr. Jurati’s mind just put a vision into her head. So it was a one way mind meld not the two way that Spock and other Vulcans have done. Maybe Romulans can do one way mind melds. Or maybe she was using Romulan neural tech and just pretending she was doing a mind meld to fake being Vulcan.
Though I kinda find the idea of Oh being a Vulcan collaborating with/being part of the Zhat Vash more interesting.
Be intriguing if they turned out to not just be a Romulan group, but some Illuminati type group that went beyond borders.
And since some have fanfic'd Spock as a descendent of Dick Grayson (Robin), I'm putting Oh down as having a little Jake or Elwood Blues in her DNA, hence the shades.
I'm kinda looking forward to Rios's quintet of holograms: Engineer, Hospitality, Medical, Navigator, Burn-Out. We might eventually be able to staff an entire Voyage with just Rios and his holos, using no duplicates. I anticipate they won't have stats strong enough to make it worthwhile, but I'd still do it once just for kicks.

Just my 2 cents on this.

To tie it back in, would my suggestion of Commodore Oh have the Vulcan trait, the Romulan trait, or both?
Happy?
Could be mirror universe
A cyberneticist mega is happening at some point, it ticks all the boxes.

So. Much. Yes.
Sadly not much came of that.
Not much came of that *yet*.
The line myself and many others have been holding on to as we keep watching, “Not much came of that yet.”
To be fair, that one person did that one thing and then that other person did that other thing. Then another person swore.
Oh yeah. You're talking about that one episode!
