Yeah, I agree, which is damned short-sighted of them. There'd be a lot more money in it long term if they did - happy customers are cheap marketing.
Even just aiming to not anger people would be a more helpful approach, thanks to the classic study showing people share good experiences with three other people on average while bad experiences spread to something like 20 people. DB and then TP had been doing a good job with that by cutting back on massive event-breaking bugs and other such incidents...the offer wall has undone all that good work and more in just a few days.
That study needs to be redone accounting for the internet age. Most people I know will give a good wait staff a decent tip, and maybe post a good review, but if they get bad service they flame them on every review site and social media outlet available.

Hello all. The Big Book Of Behold Advice, The Little Book Of Cadet Advice, The Super Hyper Stats/Backend Sheets and My Own Datacore Analysis Sheets have all shut down in protest of the offer wall. The message is as follows:
"Finding it unsafe and predatory, we do not believe the Offer Wall is an acceptable addition to the game we all love. We cannot in good conscience support a game that employs this system. While the Offer Wall remains, this resource and certain related resources will not continue. Thank you to the players for your years of feedback and support.*

I wholehearted applaud and support your collective decision.. thank you for being a big voice in our community and taking a stand
Not sure how to express. There are good points from a bunch of the perspectives here. The idea that it's going to hurt the players more than TPDBWRG, yeah I see that. Especially if they don't really care or get it.
but you guys made the resources for us on your own time and dime and we appreciate it very much. It's a loss for us but it's to you what you do with them now and totally understandable that you don't feel motivated to continue because of the wall.
I hope for 2 things from TPDBWRG now, sooner than later:
• Please be as forthcoming as possible with us, and make a priority of answering player concerns.
• Get rid of the #&%.*ng bug asap for crying out loud this is not new but it's now overdrive. If it weren't for our fleets this would be an easy decision, pending TP response. Even so I don't know how long it would make sense to continue with this just being allowed to be. We've been here before, got over it a few times already, it's enough.
Aight kids. We're still working on adding in all the bot snapshots and commentary, but our tiers are in. Commentary is going to be added throughout the day as our jobs permit. Right now, despite having tiered most purples, we're just going to be focusing on the golds - as this is a lot to port over.
As also mentioned, this is integrated into izausome's eXo bot and behold helper tool (our bot essentially functions the same as DataCore does for the BBoB commentary). If anyone would like to join our discord server for bot access, that can be arranged. We run a community chat, so we're used to having people hang around.
I really can’t believe how much heat the BBoB team is taking from players over their decision to remove their OWN resource that THEY created, and shared with EVERYONE for all this time. They didn’t have to create it. They certainly weren’t obligated to share it with anyone. And they certainly aren’t obligated to just keep working on it forever because some players have become reliant on it. I’m sorry, but these reactions are so bizarre I can barely comprehend it. I can’t believe that some players have such a sense of entitlement that they really think OTHER PLAYERS are OBLIGATED to provide them with ANYTHING. HOLY SH....
I don't see the removal of the Big Book as "punishing the players", that's a narrative that's been spun here on the forums. The Big Book is their (Idol, Auto, etc.) resource; they can remove or keep it up as they see fit. I didn't see anyone jumping to volunteer to take over updating and maintaining the Big Book at their own time and expense since idol and co. are leaving the game entirely.
Punishing the players would be leaving one more stagnating out-of-date resource out there like the ones I followed for cadets as a newbie that were for a cadet system that had since been replaced. Turns out I -didn't- need 1* CMO McCoy for Cadets. Or the guide that told me to pause on mission 4 on the galaxy map because the choices I made there would affect my reputation with certain factions.
Of course this was just more info that was outdated and didn't apply at the time I was playing those levels. I digress...
I'd buy into the "punishing the players" narrative more if one or more people publicly volunteered to continue the Big Book (at their own time and expense) but were turned down. I haven't seen anyone (singular or as a group) volunteer to keep the Big Book up to date, current, and running as a smooth oiled machine on their own time and their own dime.
Until you're willing to put in the work, you haven't earned the right to complain that a free resource is being removed because its maintainers have moved on from this game.

If I was them, after being treated the way they were by so many players here, I wouldn’t even consider handling it over for someone else to continue. They contributed a LOT to this community for a long time. For them to be treated with such hostility at the end is a new low for this community.
I would remind everyone of my incident with CBS's legal watchdogs reporting my ranked TNG list as a violation of copyright, which put resources like the Big Book at risk anyway. There's also always the possibility that since it consists specifically of game data that TP could file a complaint themselves. I wouldn't have given any of this any credence three months ago, but then CBS hired new lawyers who cared more about being aggressive than being attentive and TP seems to have followed suit.

For the most part I've manged to keep quiet about this this last week but this seems like a good opportunity to express how this all makes me feel, and perhaps add a different perspective for the people going after the BB people for "punishing the players".
They spent countless hours and countless money over many years creating tools that many people used to varying degrees, but over time those tools shifted from pure luxury to something closer to necessity for a lot of folks (not me personally, I feel I need to make this distinction). These tools are like high speed internet, at first they were just nice to have but as more and more of daily life began to rely on them, they became more essential for daily life.
So in those terms while yes the BB folks are free to do with these tools what they please, the people who grew to depend on these resources are now feeling betrayed while going through withdrawal, and it is understandable to me that they may react harshly and say things in a harsh way. Not excusing it, but I understand why it is happening.
The BB folks were out front all week calling attention to this issue, using their well-deserved/well-earned elevated status to shine a spotlight on it. The heroes of the BB were taking a stand, saying they would be quitting the game in protest of this move, and the people were sad, but they understood.
But then they didn't quit.
After many dozens of forum posts and posts on other platforms about this and "Talk"ing all week about how they were ending their podcast, it hasn't really happened. The podcast may be over, but the comments and appearances continue.
I do not believe the BB people understood just how important they were to the community, how hard many people would take their sudden departure, and how much damage they are repeatedly doing to the community every time they resume their never-ending farewell tour. They are like the ghosts of martyrs who fell on their swords publicly but then returned to give their own eulogies, preside over their own funerals, and lead their own memorial services. It is emotionally painful for people to see this happen because dozens of times already we have begun to get closure and heal our mental wounds only to have those wounds forcibly ripped open again and again by the returning ghosts. Over enough time, this is the recipe for slowly turning understanding into resentment.
Let us process your loss, or return to us. This limbo state of indefinite termination is painful for everyone, as evidenced by the emotionally charged comments in this thread and many others.
Not that anyone cares about my opinion, but I just want to clarify my own position, lest it be misinterpreted.
I have no problem with someone deciding they no longer wish to keep up with maintaining a game resource that's used by others, because they are ending their association with the game, or just because it's too much work. Hell, I've done the same myself, for at least one resource I created and shared with my fleet.
What I specifically took issue with in my original post in this thread, was the reason behind that decision. It was stated that it was being done as a protest against the company. My post was a counter-opinion, stating that the idea of removing these resources in order to affect or hurt the company in some way was, imo, completely off the mark, and that doing so for that reason would not punish the company but rather the players.
Datacore is pretty much the only resource I use these days, for the Voyage calculator. But I know many in my fleet have gotten a lot of use from the other resources out there. So, yes, in the event that someone decides that's it, and they are either moving on from the game or just don't have the time to maintain something, that's sad to lose those things they've worked so hard to create — but it's understandable. Things we take for granted don't always last as long as we'd wish them to last, and someone deciding to quit maintaining a resource for one of those reasons is something most of us can fully empathize with.
I won't get terribly deep into my thoughts about the larger issue right now (because, again, nobody cares what I have to say), other than to say it strikes me as tilting at windmills (Tilting Point pun unintended), and inciting riots with little more than fear and conjecture as the basis for their anger. That's all beside the point that I was attempting to make. It was the removal of resources with the express purpose of somehow influencing TP by that action, that I thought to be completely misguided.
That having been said, I am indeed thankful that such things were created for the community to enjoy, and as I stated in my original post here, the creators have every right to take their ball and go home. But they should also not be surprised that the way they instigated it all has had a bit of a blowback — especially considering that their opinions are not shared by everyone. Just as mine aren't, of course. 🖖
Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing. ~ Data, ST:TNG "Haven"
I personally do not see the BBBA being taken down as a punishment to the player. But rather I see the offer wall being put into the game as the punishment to the player.
I’m retiring the DataCore bot and website by the end of the month. They are open source if anyone wants to pick them up (see datacore.app for links and details).
This is partly due to the scummy direction the game is taking (adware, Offer Wall) and partly due to the project becoming a big time and money sink for me.

Excellent post! It does feel like some folks aren't considering this from the perspective of the BB crew.
I'm very disappointed that the BB was removed, but I fully support their right to do so. I'm going to miss the humorous descriptions the most, as well as the general positivity about the characters.

TemporalAgentSeven, thank you for what you built and for making it available as a service to the community. The DataCore bot helped me make 10:00:00 voyages a regular occurrence, as well as making daily decisions on crew. I’ve expressed directly to CaptainIdol about the BBBA - he’s in my fleet - but you aren’t, so thank you.
Seeing these resources go away, and more importantly the reason why, has made this a good time for me to wind down my active play. Once I burn through my current monthly card and tie up some things, I’ll be retiring. If TP/WRG steers away from its current direction, maybe we’ll all be back someday. LLAP.

How is this bullying? They made a resource for a game they enjoyed and believed in. They don’t enjoy it or believe in it anymore. They’re moving on.
If one didn’t build it or pay for it, they have nothing to complain about. We were all along for the ride. Free riders don’t get to tell the driver where to go. That’s just not how the world works.

So with that logic, players that e.g. never spend a dime on this game have no right to complain about the game or TP/WRG as well, since they didn t
build the game nor pay for it? Interesting. 😉
Imagine putting years of effort in helping the community only to get this kind of “thanks” from many of its members. No amount of mental gymnastics can absolve this despicable behavior.

As someone that plays on the PC version, I didn't think this offer wall thing would affect me, but not having access to the voyage calculator will be a huge loss, so that might mean that I'm going to have to stop playing too.
Would you please be able to post the logic used for the voyage calculator? I'm not sure I'd be able to replicate it, but I could at least give it a go.
If anyone knows of a way to convert the data extract to something usable, that would be helpful too.

Well. Automaton_2000 was, and I repeat, WAS in our fleet.
And he HAS quit.
Fact.
We had a message from him on our Discord channel to let us know that he had quit, so there goes the Big Book and a great player, fleetmate and helper to anyone who asked.
Those are the facts, so please don't say otherwise.
Everyone in our fleet understands and agrees with his reasons for leaving the game and though it saddens us, we all support his decision fully.

Well this was a punch in the gut to wake up to. Datacore is an invaluable tool. I use it every single day. I’m not sure I can manage regular 10 hour voyages without it. Datacore will often get me to 11.5 hour voyages. I’ll miss it. Thank you for making it

A good if overused turn of phrase but kind of ridiculous in this application. Tilting Point bought Star Trek Timelines and they doubled the staff. They have to make profit for the game to continue and to pay for the extra staff. If you don’t like the offer wall just ignore it. Your information is not being sold more from the game than anything else you do on the internet if you ignore the wall or ignore the surveys in the wall, or do the surveys but use not genuine information. Everything you do on the internet generates information that is catalogued and sold. Google knows where you live even if you don’t share location data. Ads on websites are tied to what you have looked at on Amazon. If you do not like that then vote for politicians that will do something about it. The current people have gotten rid of what little internet protections that were put in place. You have much more to fear from Facebook than you do Tilting Point. Players can quit if they do not like the offer wall but they should not think they are making some grand gesture by doing so. The fewer players there are the less longevity in the game for everyone else. The fewer players the more the game will have to be monetized to compensate for their loss to keep the game profitable and running.
If one didn’t build it or pay for it, they have nothing to complain about. We were all along for the ride. Free riders don’t get to tell the driver where to go. That’s just not how the world works.

Not so. DataCore and BBBA aren’t resources created or maintained by DB/TP/WRG, but by players who have volunteered their time and money to do it. Now they’re being attacked for withdrawing those resources, or at minimum no longer volunteering to maintain them.
If they weren’t making a political statement here, and were just saying “sorry, tired of the game, time to retire,” I doubt there’d be much animosity. Either way, they built it, they gave it to the community as a gift.

I’m retiring the DataCore bot and website by the end of the month. They are open source if anyone wants to pick them up (see datacore.app for links and details).
This is partly due to the scummy direction the game is taking (adware, Offer Wall) and partly due to the project becoming a big time and money sink for me.
Live long and prosper!
I'm very disappointed that the BB was removed, but I fully support their right to do so. I'm going to miss the humorous descriptions the most, as well as the general positivity about the characters.
Starport
Well said Internet Rando!
LLAP.
Tried holding your breath ? Or just maybe trow a tantrum... Those are valid forms of bulling to get what you want as well...
Thanks
Thank you for making it
Wait he’s completely gone from the game? Geez. That really is a loss for the game and this community. I wish he at least left the Big Book up as was for someone else to take over though
