I know this Crew Retrieval is all new and exciting right now like opening gifts on Christmas morning. Plus, with all of these Temporary Achievements and that Welcome Pack, TP/WRG is giving us free Constellations, ISM, and Credits (although apparently not nearly as much as WRG Ben originally told us) to kick-start our use of this new feature much like stores do for Grand Opening sales.
But I am wondering that once this honeymoon phase is over, if using Crew Retrieval will slowly become a frustrating grind for most players. Of course, I will remain open-minded and I want to give this feature a chance to succeed, but I have concerns...
People need to chill with the “this is the end of casual fleets” takes. Nothing has changed. If you want to take full advantage of this feature, and your fleet isn’t doing it’s dailies, that means you are not well paired with your fleet and you need to move on. But if you prefer your fleet more than getting the most out of CR, then you can stay put and work with the resources you get. I’ve been in three fleets since I’ve been playing: the first two I was the only real, active player, and I was still able to compete and do everything, just at a slower pace (side note: my current, awesome fleet all 50 players did their dailies yesterday; so happy I joined them!). It’s the same with this feature; you work with the resources you accumulate. You are not being beaten out of anything; you are making a strategic choice on how to play the game.
Before the fleet goals were cumulative. If your fleet was short a couple players the rest of the fleet could make up for it by doing more. This now requires 40 players to complete all 11 tasks. If your fleet is down a couple players, then someone goes on vacation and someone else has a bad day at work suddenly you're at risk. Also, some players don't like a specific part of the game. So they never do arena for example. Before it didn't affect the fleet, now that fleet suffers because someone isn't doing arena.
Yes the 11 tasks seems simple for those of us posting here. And the extra 200 honor was enough to get us to compete everything. But plenty of players are not completing everything, and we're already seeing fleets having issues despite being active competitive fleets.
More than 20 players completing dailies should not be asked.
Less than 40 people getting their dailies done is pretty unreasonable actually. Seriously, it takes less than 10 minutes except for shuttles and, formerly, scans.
I know one dude who's pretty casual. Like never scored beyond 50K in an event casual. And he gets his dailies done baring a family vacation.
40 people out if a max of 50 (while most fleets do not have that many members) is NOT casual!
No its extremely casual.
40 people out of 50 spending less than 10 minutes in a game just means you have 40 casual players.
How many people in your fleet competed in the last event? How many cleared all crew thresholds (130k) or all thresholds (350k)? Neither of those are casual.
We are only 42, my friend.
And doing some boring stuff daily vs. grinding like 2 hours in an event once a week to hit the threshold are two different pairs of shoes.
Pushing one set of buttons to get stuff vs pushing another set of buttons to get stuff are two.... very similar things. So the only real question is how much time are you spending?
I cannot speak for everyone on my fleet but only for myself. In the 2 years of playing STT not a single day has passed where I did not finish my dailies or donate to the starbase. On the other hand in the recent past we have not achieved the final donation goal in the fleet quite often, so obviously this is not true for everyone.
I forgot to answer your question regarding threshold and such in my fleet... 10 ranked below 1500 and around half of the fleet around 15000 (no idea how far it got them in the threshold). The rest ranked between 30000 and 50000 or did nothing at all.
For me playing a game is a 1 or a 0, I play it fully engaged or not at all. Perhaps you feel the same way and cannot imagine anything else? Many people play differently though.
Some people really are not that interested in doing several things every single day or even only now and then as you assume.

I think the cost of opening a constellation (1000 ism for a polestar that is not guaranteed to be even useful at all) is going to be the bottleneck. Every other cost seems to be fair, but that one. It's going to make things really slow to be even on the ballpark of a card that you might be interested in.
I think constellation should have either a really good polestar, or several (3 or 5 maybe) random ones.
Is there any estimates on how many constellations you could open a month, being a regular player? I'm guessing 3 to 5 maybe for me, that would make it a couple of months to have enough to pull a mildly desirable character.

No. Some things I can just skip. I always make sure to take care of fleet needs since its just the right thing to do. Others I just depreciate. I always try to Voyage well but there was a time when I always set a two hour timer for it. Now I don't. Gauntlet I half-**tsk tsk** because I have all the crew and I don't need the resources from it. Space Battles? I maintain rank just in case but most of the time I just run it without even bothering to hit auto. I prefer to adwarp every Cadet challenge but often forget to. And so forth.
Dailies, however, are the simplest easiest way to get stuff in the game. And now they're easier and you get more from them.
While definitely a bit disappointing, I'm content with the options used for Data Q...was still able to retrieve my second star for Gangster Spock as planned. One step closer to those three collections!
Do we know the odds of each crew- is it meant to be equal? If I've got 4 legendary and 2 ultra rate options, am I given a 2/3rd chance at a legendary, or are lower level crew more likely to show up? Big issue for me with that amount of credits!

Same chances for each crew have been confirmed by Ben. You can see it before you finally confirm the retrieval too.

I wanted Gangster Spock. I could have used 3 polestars: Jury Rigger, Telepath, and Costumed. I saved Costumed for later and with the other 2 it was Gangster or Laborer Spock (which was fine anyway). I got Gangster, finally some luck
So in total if you complete all those achievements, you're going to be getting 22 constellations, 22,000 ISM, and 8 million credits.
Complete Scans
- Milestones: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 scans performed
- Reward per milestone achieved: 500,000 Credits for a total of 5,500,000 Credits if all 11 milestones are reached.
Immortalize your Crew Members
- Milestones: 2 - immortalize one crew for each milestone
- Rewards:
Milestone 1: 1x rarity Constellation
Milestone 2 : 1x skill Constellation
Retrieve Crew (use the Crew Retrieval feature)
- Milestones: 3 - retrieve one crew for each milestone
- Rewards:
Milestone 1: 1,000 ISM
Milestone 2: 1x skill Constellation
Milestone 3: 1x skill Constellation
Am I crazy or are there 3.5 million credits, 18 constellations, and 21,000 ISM missing from the achievements?
Was this daily Welcome Pack announced before? Because this will really help kickstart use of the new feature!
Also, perhaps WRG Ben was totaling Achievements, free Welcome Gift, and daily Welcome Packs all together with his total? Depending on whether we all get 15 or 16 days of daily Welcome Pack goodness, my math says 20 or 21 constellations, 21,000 or 22,000 ISM, and 9.5 or 9.6 million credits.
For what it's worth, just using the freebies given, I've already cleared the Retrieve Crew temp achievement, made progress on the others, opened all my constellations AND already have the polestars needed to either get one of Warship EMA or Dark Empath Troi, should I so choose.
While I realise the freebies give us a huge head start that won't be available in regular gameplay, this already seems like a win to me. Yes, the system isn't perfect, and could probably use some tweaking. But, I think the call for torches and pitchforks by some was premature.
It also seems to me that all the temporary achievements should be within reach for most players. Even if it required immortalised 1 stars and focusing the ISM on extra scans rather than opening constellations.
Again, this isn't perfect, by any means, but the early verdict for me is a positive one. 🖖

Now that is not too bad of a starting point!
Yup. They didn't quite get to the player via the same way mentioned on stream, but it just about adds up. Pitchfork lowered.

Congrats. I've cleared all of the cheevos except scans at this point too.
I came out of retirement to poke around and got polestars for Federation, Starfleet, and Human. Someone in eXo got Taresian, which I think may be literally the worst one to get.
So like all else in this game, YMMV based on RNG. Your experience of this being awesome because you can get good crew doesn't mean that we all have the same luck.
Literally the worst thing about this game is the reliance on RNG because of disparities like this, and the retrieval function is RNG on RNG. Time to pack the account away again.
While all this sounded quite complicated in theory, when trying it live it is quite intuitive really. Couple that with the welcome packs to help get things off to a good start my first impressions are positive.
Comments
- 10 days of scan & adwarp scan = 20 scans
- 5 days of scan & adwarp scan + 100 ISM scan & adwarp scan = 20 scans
That's not too bad.

As opposed to all the other slow frustrating grinds in the game?

No, just one polestar per constellation sadly.
Also, why do constellations look like blue crystals instead of a group of stars?

Where do we get those polestar packs from?
The odds should show up on the right.
I guess they will be offering those in the future, maybe as limited time offers
